ADs won't tut when you're stuck in a rut, we're all too busy pouring Amaretto in our porridge

Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

This is off the gov website about English lockdown from 5.11.20. It could be interpreted that non-essential goods on the list could be restricted in supermarkets, couldn't it? Or am I over-thinking it? (Wish I'd stuck it out & got stuff today, now)

"To reduce social contact, the Government has ordered certain businesses and venues to close or restrict how they provide goods and services. These include:

Non-essential retail, such as clothing and homeware stores, vehicle showrooms (other than for rental), betting shops, tailors, tobacco and vape shops, electronic goods and mobile phone shops, and market stalls selling non-essential goods. These venues can continue to be able to operate click-and-collect..."

Nice to see Jourdain back!

Marshyellow · 04/11/2020 17:37

Yeah, I do agree that those on duty as carers who do shopping for some of their clients (is that the word?) should get to go straight in, they usually don't have time anyway let alone waiting for however long in a queue, and of course those who find it challenging to physically mentally standing in a queue or whatever. Hope they don't stop selling 'non-essential' items, surely it will just make the Christmas rush even more ridiculous when things are 'allowed' again, eurgh- admittedly I haven't seen that discussed though.

MercyBooth · 04/11/2020 17:40

More fucking lies @Jourdain11

Pleasedontdothat · 04/11/2020 17:43

Checking in - too annoyed by everything to do anything else apart from scream into the void ...

MercyBooth · 04/11/2020 17:43

Its stupid and short sighted The shops will end up even more rammed in early December (if they arent still lying about when this will end)......oh wait , this way they can blame the public YET AGAIN for any December/January spread.

Orangeblossom7777 · 04/11/2020 17:45

I'm guessing it will mean, as happened last time, as in M&S the food hall but would be open but the clothes bits not

so hopefully general stuff would be mixed in...

BogRollBOGOF · 04/11/2020 17:47

Hello Jourdain 11 👋

I had to buy DS1 shorts early in lockdown. He was ill in the December and wasn't really right for a long time after. A couple of weeks rest at home and his newish shorts were suddenly getting rather snug on his legs (as in I had to upgrade a 9yo to age 7 😂) At that point the supermarkets were prioritising food on shelves and it was WYSIWYG. But he did quite abruptly need new clothes at that point.

Restricting non-essentials at this time of year is ridiculous. What happens if your child develops symptoms picked up at school on 1st Dec, then the next child goes down with it later, and you're the poor sap that can't leave the house for the maximum 3 weeks. Great, less than a handful of shopping days until Christmas.
Clever...

Not sure where the reference to Amaretto in porridge came from but it sounds quite nice Smile

Sonicthehedgehogg · 04/11/2020 17:52

Another NHS bod here who doesn't queue jump. I would never identify myself as a nurse in public at all.

The stopping of selling 'non-essential' in supermarkets etc is ridiculous. Did they not see how badly received that was in Wales?

Sonicthehedgehogg · 04/11/2020 17:53

Although I suspect/hope it's fake news. Didn't they clarify they wouldn't do this at the start of the announcements?

Jourdain11 · 04/11/2020 17:55

Who gives the government the authority to decide what's essential anyway? DS has just grown like a weed and needs new school uniform everything. But no, not essential (should I send him to school naked?). But you can bet your bottom dollar that people will still be able to buy bath salts and guava and fucking Lindor chocolates, or whatever.

Waving hello now that I'm over my rant! Sorry to have been absent again... been a bit crazy this end and I've not had my finger on the pulse (think I lost the new thread at some point!).

littlbrowndog · 04/11/2020 17:56

I do that orchid as well to spread the cost and when I see bargains.

One of the big aisles of delight in Lidl today was totally empty.

I wonder why. I hope it’s not a sign of things they know about

Sonicthehedgehogg · 04/11/2020 17:59

Littlebrowndog That will just be for the newly released items on a Thursday (make space this PM and stock overnight).
That's very sad to know that, I know Blush

ISaySteadyOn · 04/11/2020 18:03

Glad to see you @Jourdain11!

We had a lovely zoo trip and were lucky enough to hear a lion roar.

littlbrowndog · 04/11/2020 18:04

Oh phew. Thanks sonic

justasking111 · 04/11/2020 18:09

Liverpool over 300 cases per 100k which they said was very bad.

Merthyr Tydfil over 700 cases per 100k that is just beyond my ken, what is going on in this part of Wales.

Our Lidl pushed all the middle aisles together, folk reach over and grab stuff, checkout staff not bothered.

They really have not given stores enough time to do this.

RobinHobb · 04/11/2020 18:12

@ISaySteadyOn

I made it to the zoo!
Woo hoo I'm really glad for you! Well done

Good for you, feel the fear and do it anyway is my mantra.
MercyBooth · 04/11/2020 18:14

Oh dear. Bit of an economy strike being organised in a local fb group The aim is to spend £0 during this lockdown.

TheOrchidKiller · 04/11/2020 18:14

"Another NHS bod here who doesn't queue jump. I would never identify myself as a nurse in public at all."

No, don't put your hand up to that!
I'm not a nurse but seem to attract people needing urgent medical attention when I'm out in public. Projectile-vomiting-&-loss-of-consciousness Man was a holiday memory I won't forget. I don't speak other languages beyond ordering a beer, so miming, "Get help!" was interesting.

I am totally in favour of carers & volunteers going to the front of a queue.

YY Totally agree.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 04/11/2020 18:32

"I see sane people!" waves maniacally over a glass of wine whilst sobbing into families dinner!!! Xx

Taswama · 04/11/2020 18:44

Hello everyone. Love the new thread title.
I had a lovely riding lesson today and have booked myself in for another one in December.
DS had asked a friend to come and play chess after school today and it was agreed between them. But their parents wouldn't allow it. They are in the same classes at school and hang out at break time. He was really disappointed. He used to play chess at school but that's no longer allowed of course
