Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

Met my dd for a pre birthday lunch, prelockdown. I may have hugged her and I may have cried.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/11/2020 15:23

AD is anti dementor
The dementors are creatures in Harry Potter who suck the soul and joy out of life. A lot like the "put milk in your cheese" posters on the corona board. Who not only followed the roolz but came up with their own extended versions and expected everyone else to follow.
So, we are anti that.
We follow the rules but we also question and more importantly support each other when they all become a bit too much.

Hope that helps @DrDetriment

ISaySteadyOn · 04/11/2020 15:29

I am the zoo goer but in my defense, I have not been to a hairdresser or salon of any kind for probably 15 years. I hate mirrors and looking at myself in them.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 04/11/2020 15:30

It's looking better for Biden than it did earlier - some of the not quite finished counting states which were really close but looked red earlier now look blue on the The Associated Press map.

It's no that long till the firebreak lockdown ends here - it actually hasn't been that bad for us even the older two schooling gone smoother than we expected and they are getting decent work this time.

ISaySteadyOn · 04/11/2020 15:43

With schooling, we found the Maths Antics youtube videos really helpful.

Recycledblonde · 04/11/2020 16:02

@DrDetriment

I keep seeing these threads and wondering who the ADs are? Would anyone mind letting me know or is it another one of these MN threads where you have to be in the know from the start? Thanks.
I only joined in with the last 2 threads. Had a break from MN after the last lockdown as I found it so depressing. Feel like I’ve found my tribe now. Have had Covid and work frontline in the NHS as a paramedic but. still think this is overkill but am banned from posting anything on my private social media that disagrees with government policies relating to the pandemic. 😡

Nine months of separation. Qualified nurse looking to take her mother home and care for her - ARRESTED - how can this be right, in the meantime her 97 year older mother’s health continues to decline #rightsforresidents #stilllockedaway

Blobby10 · 04/11/2020 16:30

MercyBooth That is SUCH a sad story - and so very very very wrong on all counts. How much more benefit will the elderly lady have from reaching the end of her life in a home surrounded by people who love her than in a home where the staff will, in all probability, be far too busy to spend time with her in her last years/months/days? Sad Sad

TheOrchidKiller · 04/11/2020 16:36

Afternoon, All.
Last thread filled up fast.

@ISaySteadyOn go you, at the zoo! Hope you enjoyed it.

@110APiccadilly hope you & the baby are doing ok. You absolutely did the right thing, getting checked out.

How do you keep cases down in one of the covid hotspots? You announce a national lockdown, & then everyone in the hotspot flocks to the city centre to do their Christmas shopping all at once. Genius.

I tried to do some shopping, but didnt know what I wanted really, got too hot queuing in a mask & came home.

Also sick of the public service announcements telling us to "control the virus." We can't control it, it's a virus, not a labrador puppy.

DD's last day at work before they revert to takeaways only (less hours= less pay; no customers = no tips). She says the last few days have been as busy as August.

WouldBeGood · 04/11/2020 16:41

Hello, and love the title 😂😂

Orangeblossom7777 · 04/11/2020 16:47

Bit sad on my walk, first met a tearful shop owner telling me they are missing the most important weeks of the year, then saw a child having a solitary birthday party it seemed- sat under a blow up number balloon with a teddy and having photos taken by their mum.

Kind of sums it up really.

WouldBeGood · 04/11/2020 16:48

@bengalcat Mot full lockdown here (yet!) but I have organised continuing hair colour on the black market in case it happens again..

I started doing my own gel nails, brows and lashes last time and am sticking with that.

BogRollBOGOF · 04/11/2020 16:52

Insanity is 2 year group school closures leaving two parents standing on the school playground and being expected to wear masks...
The other parent just used his to keep his chin warm while we talked for 10 minutes so I could actually look at his face today. 0% complience Grin

Had a pretty decent day. Spent a couple of hours doing an autumn tidy-up in the garden. Final grass cut of the year and cleaning up the leaves already fallen. Plenty more to come down, but at least the garden isn't already smothered in them.

I'm always surprised at the number of oak leaves out the front as they must blow a couple of hundred metres over from the woods.

I regularly find myself wanting to stand on top of a big hill so I can shout ‘ENOUGH OF THIS TOTAL OVER REACTION’

My feeling is not helped by the fact I had covid last week. Whilst perhaps I should be grateful I only got the mild version most people are told to expect, it has unexpectedly made me even more angry about all of these restrictions due to the illness I experienced being nothing to write home about. We live near Paris in France where masks have been mandatory in most outdoor streets as well as indoor places since September. Well a lot of friggin good they did because I still managed to catch it from somewhere. However, if I’d never heard of covid 19, I would have felt a bit under the weather for 3-4 days, taken about a week to fully feel that I was back to normal and then got on with my life thinking that I’d just got unlucky and had a bit of a heavy winter virus.

Instead I now have to fill out a permission form every time I want to leave my house, can only go out for one hour a day to walk the dog and must stay within 1km of our house. Worst of all my poor DC have to sit in a mask the entire day at school with only a break at lunchtime. It’s day 3 of that fun restriction and the school are emailing me to ask if I can find another mask solution because the ear straps are making my 6 year old’s ears sore!! I mean ffs!!

Happy I can vent about that here because I know on dementor threads I’d be told that someone’s 3 year old happily wears a mask everywhere all day and that anybody who gets covid ends up on a ventilator or with permanently damaged lungs so I shouldn’t be underplaying it.

The world needs more anti dementors making noise!

Marshyellow · 04/11/2020 17:11

The supermarkets are at it again, questioned on my way in as to why my child was with me. Said it's because it's frowned upon to leave a toddler home alone, we walked here, and my partner is away with work. For me it's fine, but being asked to some is distressing, and the fact you have to justify yourself is really ridiculous. Also from tomorrow NHS can queue jump, as no one else has done fuck all this pandemic and has all the time in the world to wait around for longer than neccessary. Done with it today.

TheOrchidKiller · 04/11/2020 17:13

I had a discussion with DS last night about this sort of thing.

If nothing else, this nightmare has led to some interesting conversations with my teen children, & I think they are far more interested in politics, but also have some ability to think critically, & see things from various viewpoints.

DD said she got up at 5am to watch the US election & she was texting me all about it on her break today.

Both me and DH said we’ve had worse hangovers, despite DH being classed as vulnerable due to having a heart condition. Both of us are fat and over fifty so it should be an automatic death sentence for us according to the dementors. I do understand that some people suffer more which is the case for all viruses. Perhaps they’ll discover that copious amounts of alcohol has a preventative effect.🍷🍷🍷
TheOrchidKiller · 04/11/2020 17:25

Why on earth are they proposing to block off non-essential aisles? I buy a Christmassy item every week from now with the weekly shop, to spread the cost & to avoid spending too much time in store during the chaos of Christmas week. Sainsburys has their Christmas gifts /decorations/food in specific Christmas aisles. The only way I can see the getting round this is to mix the wrapping paper in with the pasta.

I don't get the, "it's to give a level playing field with non-essential shops" crap either. They didn't stop Sainsburys selling Easter decorations in last lockdown just because Clintons cards was shut.

@Marshyellow I work for the NHS & disapprove of queue-jumping. I saw a woman with her NHS lanyard queue-jump to get into The Range, & she came out with scented candles.

@Lostinacloud I often want to do the same as you. Thank you for posting about your experience in France. It's been interesting to hear about what's happening in other countries.

Jourdain11 · 04/11/2020 17:29

But they said they weren't going to do this, re. the non-essentials!

Jourdain11 · 04/11/2020 17:33

They are lying shits...! We have at least 5 essential non-essential items to buy and I deliberately said to DH not to bother rushing in to get them this evening, because it would still be possible to get them in the supermarket later in the week. Argh!!!
