Man refuses to get out of shared lift

Georgeoftheinternet · 03/11/2020 00:37

Obviously we don’t know the whole story but it would appear that a person wanted to share a lift by themself.

Others facts - he may have alluded to her having corona. He record her. Neither wear wearing masks. Enclosed space.

Thoughts?

My personal thoughts are that she was in the right. If she wanted to use the lift by herself than I think people should respect her decision. To go around ranting, recording and speaking to her in a raised voice, especially given her reaction - than he’s out of order.

Clearly wherever they are from they are highly uneducated, you should not be sharing confined spaces with someone outside of your household ect. Whoever was in the lift first had right to the lift the other should have waited for the following lift.

At present this is not a rule. There are guidances that people, including those overseeing use of lifts, must follow. This does not match up with your rule that you have made up. If you want to follow your self-made rule and it doesn’t align with official guidance then you have a choice of not using the lift, there will be stairs and am betting you would have these all to yourself.

Chocolate1984 · 03/11/2020 06:01

I think she was in the wrong. It’s a public lift, it says it’s for 2 people. He was a dick.

I have seen a few of these buddies and it’s never a man going up against another man equal in size. These men always seem to show they are the big man by name calling, swearing and intimidating women a fraction of their size.

Ghosts2020 · 03/11/2020 06:02

@hoppingpavola not sure where you're from but here it's blatantly obvious to remain 6ft apart, do not get into confined spaces from those outside of your household ect. Stop pushing a false narrative. I am disabled how on earth could I or others with a disability use the stairs. Further more it doesn't matter if you have a reason or not the lift should obviously be single use now please educate your ignorance.

ragged · 03/11/2020 06:12

He's so ranty & aggressive that I can't hear her side of it.

She seems to be saying that this kicked off when he insisted she had to leave lift & then said something abusive when she didn't leave as demanded. She's calling him out for "Why you say that?" again & again.

DreamingofGinoclock · 03/11/2020 06:43

I'm surprised it said two people ....most places I've been have been one person or one household

TheSeedsOfADream · 03/11/2020 06:44

Weird thread title.
Surely it should be "Person refuses to get in lift which already had someone in (despite that not being against regulations) and picks fight to prove she was right. Neither person in video comes out of it well".
The video looks staged, by jazz hands actors.

clearedfortakeoff · 03/11/2020 06:45

Why wasnt she wearing a mask if she was so concerned??. Also, she could have taken the stairs rather than hold up another person so unreasonably.

The lift in the video isn't single use.

cansu · 03/11/2020 06:46

If she was in first and wanted to travel alone then he should have let her. That said, he is obviously a belligerent arse and she should have just taken the next one rather than listen to him ranting and being a dick. If it is a building with lots of floors and only one lift then she might need to consider wearing a proper surgical mask.

WokesFromHome · 03/11/2020 06:47

I would have refused to get out too. She has no mask and the lift says 2 people. She should walk up the stairs if she doesn't want to share a lift. He is in the wrong for using bad language and bot wearing a mask.

I don't agree with male aggression but I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed to verbally stand up for himself. A woman would probably use a few F bombs if told to get out the lift too.

HoppingPavlova · 03/11/2020 06:53

I don’t need to educate my ignorance. The guidance swings between 5-6 feet apart, as you yourself mention. This guidance can be accommodated in most lifts with many being able to fit more than one person while still complying. It’s pretty simple. Some lifts can’t and these are one person only. This lift could accomodate 2 people while complying so she had a choice and acted like a fool.

Frdd · 03/11/2020 06:54

She was wrong to hold the lift.

He was wrong to be a racist.

BullBailey · 03/11/2020 07:17

@Ghosts2020 but they aren’t single use. As I said, I used a hospital lift yesterday on a baby ward and it was for two people, signs everywhere and the floor was divided into two, so it’s not pps false narrative, they are the rules for some places.

kowari · 03/11/2020 07:29

If she was worried about coronavirus surely she would wear a mask or leave the lift herself? She is standing there, facing him, both talking without masks, but she won't just let the lift go? If you have a problem with the allowed two people in the lift then step out yourself and wait.

RantyAnty · 03/11/2020 07:45

Saw the first video where he is mocking her accent and said, “It’s you people that brought corona.”
His twitter is full of misogynistic nonsense.

Interesting how his unhinged behaviour gets a pass but she is called certifiable crazy for holding the button.

Many women don't like to ride alone in a lift with a man. Men don't care as they never have to be concerned about being assaulted or harassed by a woman in a lift.

The consensus seems to be her fear is her problem so just let the man go first.

jay55 · 03/11/2020 07:51

It's only been in the last week we've been asked to wear masks in the lifts where I live.

I'd not always have had one on me when just taking the rubbish out or checking for mail. But then I'm top floor so always in first and it's the next persons choice to get in or wait.

That said I've no clue why she didn't just get out. No way I'd have stayed in that lift with a man who is so irate.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/11/2020 07:58

Meh! PA woman meets Instabore Bloke... standoff occurs.

Neither of them seem like pleasant people. But, reading the almost entirely male comment on youtube, the 'Karen / Kay Ron / other racist version of the misogynist trope' is most certianly raising male hackles. Like they can't hear him, don't see that it is him filming, getting his kicks, posting cos "He'll be famous for today" or similar.

And his hashtags!!! BLM... so just the B, no A no ME!

Fucking ridiculous, on all counts!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/11/2020 08:00

The consensus seems to be her fear is her problem so just let the man go first. God yes! I called her PA. But you are right... it's just as likely she was not doing what we have all been taught to do for eons! Let The Man do as he wants!

DumplingsAndStew · 03/11/2020 08:03

Wow, so many people who don't read the thread, yet have to put in their tuppence.

the full video shows more

He was clearly being aggressive and abusive. Well done to her for standing up to him.

TiersTiersTiers · 03/11/2020 08:05

They could also wear masks --

TiersTiersTiers · 03/11/2020 08:07

I watched the full video - someone else turns up and walks into the lift and she gets out and then lets the lift go....

Strange on both parts. She isn't happy to share a lift - he was. So she stood in the lift with him telling him to get out of it.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/11/2020 08:11

Yes, that is precisely if you watched the video but didn't listen to it.

Dinocan · 03/11/2020 08:17

What a vile man. If there’s a suggestion that anyone is being racially abusive surely it’s him? He says something like ‘if anything I should be running from you’. I took that to be a racial slur related to Covid. She does look a bit ill so I can understand why she felt in the right to use the lift, however I can also see his POV that if he’d waited 20 mins (although why you do that is a mystery to me when you could just use the stairs). Neither of them are exactly ‘in the right’ but his a aggression faced with a woman attempting to stand her ground is astounding.

SionnachRua · 03/11/2020 08:18

Neither seem like great people in all honesty. But I think he's in the right here. She wants the lift to herself? Fine! She can wait until no one is looking to use the lift then, she doesn't get to monopolise it. Unless the lift company bring out specific rules on it, the lift is for sharing.

PrincessBuggerPants · 03/11/2020 08:20

What weird responses. Current guidelines are that only one household at a time should use a lift and there are signs all over every lift I have seen stating this.
