@nolongersurprised

My oldest daughter forgot to bring home the parental permission slip for her electives for next year. It was supposed to be in yesterday. I’m encouraging her to forge my signature but it turns out she has integrity
If she has your permission, surely that negates any ethical issues glosses over the fact that I'm currently studying ethics as part of my degree
SilkieRabbits · 03/11/2020 10:37

Glad you have your power back MissC and you are feeling better soon too.

I'm on my second lot of tea and scotch pancakes with butter, they are lovely and DS has joined this trend, well the pancakes part.

DD did her morning run. Bricks were collected, the bureau is being collected today but the third ebay item they said they cannot collect before lockdown which I said was essential in advert (and annoyingly she took 2 days to tell me) so put that back on. Just hoping someone can take it on Wednesday.

Ordered a few clothes to collect at the supermarket. DH is going down to West London tonight to look at a piano for a piano club.

Trying to get gas and electricity checks on old house done though bit challenging with lockdown.

nolongersurprised · 03/11/2020 10:45

Eggy I agree! She said it felt “wrong”, bless her.

This means that when I drop the children off tomorrow I’ll have to wait for her to run to the (hopefully open) classroom, find the form, bring it out to me to sign and then hand it in.

For so reason it feels like an insurmountable hassle.

MistressIggi · 03/11/2020 10:47

I have been to the post office. The young man who works there is so patient and friendly. Not in a "how is your day going?" way which I hate. Just smiley and polite. I always feel good when I leave there.

Squirrel26 · 03/11/2020 10:54

Someone just came into my office to test the smoke alarm. Apparently it is fine.

EggyPegg · 03/11/2020 10:56

I have just pulled out DS2s tooth. It was hanging on by a tiny thread and he prefers me to just pull them when they get like that. It makes both DH and DS1 want to throw up when we do it. His tooth is now wrapped in tissue, placed in the special tooth fairy bag (an organza bag I think a pair of earrings came in) and under his pillow. Thankfully I do have some change in the house today.

Another from me. I am now pondering why the MAN has his name first on the front of the book and inside in the chapters, when he should be last alphabetically. I can't decide if there is a valid reason for this or I'm feeling disgruntled about the patriarchy.

I just had to go and count the number of charity shops on a road nearby, for a something I am writing. There are 7.

MissConductUS · 03/11/2020 12:13

In clinical research papers, there is always a lead author based on who secured the funding and academic seniority. Both of which are usually determined by the patriarchy. It may be similar for your book.

@ReallySpicyCurry - I'll add my thanks and am proud to help carry on the tradition. In troubled times like these it's really good to have a place to talk about the small things.

I'm still over the moon that DS will be staying home after he comes home from uni for Thanksgiving. He'll be some much safer here and well all miss him.

I've a fairly new package of strawberries that have gone soft, so I may nip out to the supermarket in a bit and see if I can get some nicer ones.

I am back from my epic trip! It was peeing it down so the visibility on the main roads was appalling, then all the little backroads at the end were all flooded and muddy. But I made it through with the mighty Micra (only tried to put it into 6th gear, which it most certainly does not have, once 😬) and have acquired some very springy insoles for my trainers. Then I went into the big independent sewing shop across the way and got some fleece fabric, elastic for face masks, a darning mushroom and some thread. I plan to make removable covers for ddog’s beds, face masks for DStepdad as he can’t get readymade ones that fit right, and to mend all the holes in my fluffy socks and gloves. The sewing shop was really busy... lots of people like me getting last minute supplies before they close again. The running shop too.

I should now go for a run but it’s very cold and windy so I think I’ll go tomorrow, when the forecast is a bit better. I have a new sports bra to try as well, and I spent the last of my birthday wiggle voucher on a new top (yay!) and a trigger point massage ball (eek!) so looking forward to having a parcel arrive soon.

FawnDrench · 03/11/2020 12:53

I've just had a bacon sandwich.
It was lovely.

I now need to replenish the bacon by the weekend.

The dog is snoozing peacefully after his (our) long and invigorating walk earlier.

Champagneforeveryone · 03/11/2020 13:55

I'm in a long queue to get into Waitrose to buy alcohol organic veg. One woman is resolutely not standing on the appointed dot, causing much dithering behind her. Should we move up, should we stay on our spots and this make the gap between us too big

MissConductUS · 03/11/2020 14:23

My quick nip out for strawberries turned into a $40 shop that included oat milk for DD, some fancy/posh chocolate biscuits, some Ben & Jerrie's ice cream that was on offer (3 pints for $10, a very good price), some tortilla crisps and two containers of strawberries.

At least the oat milk and strawberries are healthy. Grin

All very delicious though @MissConductUS

I am having a raspberry Pepsi max

Taswama · 03/11/2020 17:07

I didn't have enough change to buy a poppy pin at work today but have found some on the side and will buy one on Friday.

Mooselaurels · 03/11/2020 17:11

I made a photo of Mars with my new telescope

DS did the Senior Maths Challenge today at school instead of RE so he was very happy.

DH is in London as bureau is being collected then seeing a piano someone else wants for them. Says we are having Chinese tonight. Re-sold dressing table to someone who can collect it pre lockdown.

E-mailed estate agents to see if they are open or shut now.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/11/2020 17:41

Again - working late, so tired and not doing much of anything (apart from babbel and duolingo).

But, this morning I woke up to this Smile.

I am 1/3 of my way through the crochet cowl I’m making which given the ice Cold weather here will be a welcome wardrobe edition. I keep having to check I’m actually doing the right stitch as I’m very rust and losing track of my yarn overs.

MissConductUS · 03/11/2020 18:58

@Mooselaurels

I made a photo of Mars with my new telescope
Great picture! Your new scope must be fabulous.

I've been looking for Mars the last few mornings but no luck, probably too low on the horizon.

I made a photo of Mars with my new telescope
Wow! (Sorry, that was a little too excited wasn't it?)

It was our normal supermarket shopping day, no queues and plenty on the shelves; I bought some rhubarb and ginger gin.

Spudlet · 03/11/2020 19:34

@Mooselaurels That’s amazing! And what a beautiful flower, @Prokupatuscrakedatus Smile

‘D’dog has eaten the smaller of our pumpkins. Fortunately it was a very tiny one, but FFS, that dog! He seems quite chipper now, but I’m not too hopeful about tomorrow... it may be an early start 🙈

soddingkitten · 03/11/2020 19:43

@MissConductUS

It has not been a good evening.

The extraction was "challenging", with a curved root that did not want to come out, a perforation in the sinus and an abscess. And lots of bleeding.

I am home, sitting in the dark and cold as the power is still off, so I'm feeling a bit stabby (I love that word) at the moment.

I do however very much appreciate all of your good wishes. Smile

Sounds painful, MissConduct. Hope you are feeling better.

Today was my first day in the office since the clocks went back. I was plunged into darkness part way through a Zoom meeting late this afternoon. Our office lights are motion-activated and I wasn’t waving my arms around enough. Grin

Sodding was out when I got home but appeared quickly when I called for him from the back door. It’s so close to bonfire night, I’m worried he’ll be frightened by fireworks going off so I shut him in. I had definitely spoiled some fun as he spent the next 5 minutes head-butting the locked catflap trying to get back out. Yeah, that’s me - killjoy Mum.

Mooselaurels · 03/11/2020 19:55

Thanks! My best picture yet, but room for improvement I think. Probably need a better camera, but they're £££ so I'll continue to hone my skills on the affordable equipment for a bit longer.

Whereabouts in the hemisphere are you? I'm at latitude 52 or thereabouts, Mars rises in the east at the moment as it's pretty close to opposition still. Should be able to see it not long after sunset in the northern hemisphere.

Try a free app like Sky Safari to figure out a good time to spot it!

Squirrel26 · 03/11/2020 20:01

The dog wouldn’t go for his walk this evening because of the fireworks. Every TV and radio in the house is on to cover up the noise and he’s got a bone which seems to be requiring a lot of attention, so he’s happier now.

I’m finding it quite hard to concentrate on Eastenders in the living room while some kind of Radio 4 drama is also on in the kitchen.
