(sorry didnt crop out DHs beard!)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/11/2020 15:35

As DS is in isolation until Friday (with lessons) I - as a close contact - have been asked to work from home. Which I did - even if it was my day off.
And DS mentor called - coming off medication was a very very very bad idea and we now have to save what can be saved.
So I am pretty 'uncalm' at the moment and calming myself with your cat and dog pictures and chocolate rice crispies.

Spudlet · 13/11/2020 15:44

I am feeling a bit happier now. DH sacrificed his lunch break so I could take ddog for a walk and I had a long chat with DM while I was at it, and she’s made me feel a lot better. DS and I baked banana bread (maths practice) and washed his trailer bike (blatant child labour), then we logged into Teams again for his teacher to read the class a story, which DS copes with perfectly well because everyone is not yelling all at the same time! Then we showed everyone his banana bread and painting from this morning, then knocked school on the head and gave ddog a quick bath. Now we’re watching Tangled while ddog has an epic sulking session. Pic is pre-bath... he definitely knew what was coming his way Grin

Managed to do English with DS and Maths but not the French and Science yet - he's pretending to be deaf. At least its Friday.

PersisFord · 13/11/2020 15:55

I echo your Friday feelings. Am going for a run with a friend tonight - she is much faster and fitter than me but I am just aching for exercise and company so have been looking forward to it all week!

School have emailed some homework for the kids, which needs printing. And we don’t have a printer. Will have to ask a friend to print and drop it off. What a faff.

My question: I love pumpkin seeds. But why are they so expensive? Surely they are essentially a waste byproduct of pumpkins? Are there special pumpkins being bred for the seeds? If so, what happens to their flesh?!?!??

TenCornMaidens · 13/11/2020 15:56

@PersisFord I think I will end up down a rabbit hole if I start looking into that....

Champagneforeveryone · 13/11/2020 16:05

sheusedyobesomeoneelse I'm loving the rakish "elbow on the table" look Grin

DDog1 has had a little accident on his new bed. We've had a chat and have decided to blame it firmly on the puppies Wink Bed has been through the wash.

I need to do a click and collect grocery order, but haven't yet.

Lolly49 · 13/11/2020 16:08

Had a new microwave delivered today the old one seems to have been knackered over the lockdowns.

kittensarecute · 13/11/2020 16:14

I saw on the TV last night that they need people to sign up for vaccine trials so I signed up last night. Not expecting to hear back though.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 13/11/2020 16:19

We've just had our electricity meter replace with a smart meter. The power went off for about 30 minutes and the house alarm went off because the power was off. Loud noise drives DS up the wall, not sure how well he's going to cope with a crying baby.

Nydj · 13/11/2020 16:33

We had the washing out today. DH brought it in and I put it on the airer - teamwork!

@Spudlet, I feel for you and your DS - I hope he is ok now and enjoys a lovely soothing weekend. Talking of soothing, have you considered getting the white noise from Amazon that someone mentioned earlier? I wish I had known about such things when DS was little, I’m sure it would have helped him feel better lots of times.

Nydj · 13/11/2020 16:34

Forgot to say, @MissConductUS, I’m counting down the days for you to get your DS home!

unebaguettepastropcuite · 13/11/2020 16:36

It's chilly so we're having cassoulet for dinner tonight

Bagadverts · 13/11/2020 16:41

Finished 10 minutes early from work and my “commute” is dining room to my bedroom so relaxing already. Hooray.

MissConductUS · 13/11/2020 16:55

@Sheusedtobesomeonelse - your cat is a very handsome boy, and I agree, leaning on the table with his elbow gives him a very sophisticated look. I should really do something with weights (and yoga) but I can't give up my daily run and just have little time for something on top of it.

@Spudlet - I'm glad you're having a better day. How often does Ddog get a bath? I guess I'm spoiled with only cats in the house as they take care of that themselves.

@PersisFord - I'm running so slowly these days I'd be too embarrassed to run with someone else, so good for you for giving it a go. Re the printer, consider getting one. We got an HP all in one printer (prints, scans, faxes) years ago when the kids started high school and it's been invaluable. We still use it all the time. Being able to scan a document so that you can email it is really handy.

@Lolly49 - Our microwave went south in April and then the fridge died in May. It was a wait to get both replaced because covid had disrupted supply chains so badly.

Since we're doing cat pictures, here's one of Dboycat. Apologies if I've posted it previously.

Thank you! I am too. I'll have to do a massive grocery shop before he comes home to stock up on all of his favorites.

To be honest, I'm getting really concerned about the covid case numbers. They're not bad in New York, but they are getting really bad around Boston and many other parts of the US. The sooner we can get him home the better. It is going to be a hard slog until we have widespread vaccination.

Sth fun:
DD is (internet) friends with with people around the world. Tomorrow they plan to sing "Happy birthday!" to one of them. They have to coordinate England, Korea, India, Germany and - I think - Thailand, to find a time that suits all.

Tell me what your AS/ADHD children want to do for aliving (please).

EggyPegg · 13/11/2020 17:35

Assignment was submitted with 7 minutes to spare. DCat one shifted position during it and fell asleep with her head across my arm. She went so deep that even as I was shifting as I typed, she shifted with me.

Hot dogs for tea tonight and I've achieved legend mum status by saying yes to a picnic dinner in front of a movie.

Spudlet · 13/11/2020 17:43

@Nydj Thanks 😊 Fortunately he calmed down again really quickly when we ended the session, and his teacher has emailed to say they’ll come up with a plan for him. So that’s good at least. He’s currently watching Sarah and Duck and agitating for dinner - which I shall sort out shortly because I’ve just realised that I forgot to eat lunch and am consequently starving!

@MissConductUS I don’t bath him often, probably just a couple of times a year. It used to be more often because he was a terrible roller in awful things as a young dog, but he doesn’t get as much chance these days! I used to keep a special bottle of dog washing ketchup just to get smells out of him 🙈

F1 driver until early teens. Now wants to do something economics related
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/11/2020 18:15

@Nydj
DS never had an idea - not even F1 or train driver.
We've got to find sth he can do and not totally abhors doing.
At the moment it's a very short list and does not include university. We've got a very well established dual education system but there are thousands of possibilites ......

SilkieRabbits · 13/11/2020 18:42

I think my DS (ASD) wants to work in banking HQ back office / financial models / economics type roles but could all change. Before it was a maths teacher but he wouldn't be patient enough or diplomatic with the struggling children.

Had chocolate and orange fudge and mini cheddars, the healthy eating went out the window. Did English with DS, John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men doing the Great Depression background etc. Am drinking water at least.

I wonder if covid can affect your hearing. Everytime I call DS for his work he can't hear me. Grin

Spudlet · 13/11/2020 18:49

DS is too little to know, but of the almost certainly on the spectrum somewhere adults that I know, most work in programming in some capacity. Mind you that may just be that I know a fair few programmers (DH included...!).

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/11/2020 19:14

@spudlet
He is quite good at maths (if he can be bothered) but does not like computers (unless for gaming). I see him doing sth with taxes or so - no people, no suprises and a strict work protocol to follow.
All the agencies I know dealing with jobs for AS people do software and programming.

TenCornMaidens · 13/11/2020 19:59

My son (nearly 16, borderline ASD with 'attention issues') is interested in computer science, programming, engineering, maths.
