Good lord silkie, you won't be required to homeschool the sec education topic will you?! Shock

SilkieRabbits · 11/11/2020 17:50

In theory yes but as DS is asd and relationships are unlikely before 40 or so I think I'm passing on that one.

HelenaJustina · 11/11/2020 18:26

@Spudlet brilliant, reads like the early years profiles of my own dear DC!

I stayed up too late last night and was too busy even to make coffee to keep going through an important meeting this morning. I was flagging by 1.30pm! Off for a run with my second wind.

SpeedofaSloth · 11/11/2020 18:37

I had a nice Coop mince pie yesterday, it was a flaky pastry one, a bit like an apple turnover.

EggyPegg · 11/11/2020 18:42

You're not having much luck with your deliveries @Champagneforeveryone

I had an email from a local Beaver colony today saying that DS2 could come off the waiting list as a space is available if he still wanted it. He's been on the list of about 5 colonies since February. He starts on Friday via Zoom for this term.

SilkieRabbits · 11/11/2020 18:43

My horrid one was a flat one. I'm sure had nice ones last year but DH has gone to Waitrose to get some of theirs and mulled wine.

SilkieRabbits · 11/11/2020 18:44

Message from DH

Flat mince pies 🥧, giant pancakes 🥞, mulled wine 🍷: I got your dinner sorted.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/11/2020 19:17

DS has crashed is 3rd semester biology test - (Abitur - the grades of 4 semesters + the exams in his 4 chosen subjects count towards the end results). It's a complete fail and he had an emergency meeting with his mentor. So we are slightly stressed here.

On a calmer note: tradition dictates that I - being RC - may start preparing for christmas (start baking). My Dsis - being lutheran - has to wait another 2 weeks.

PersisFord · 11/11/2020 19:31

@SilkieRabbits your DH is a legend

Mine is doing a work zoom in the kitchen. I really want some crisps. I wonder how long he will be?

PersisFord · 11/11/2020 19:32

@Prokupatuscrakedatus ooooooh do you have a recipe for the lovely little flat biscuits that are shaped like windmills that you can buy at the German market? They taste of nutmeg and cinnamon.

PersisFord · 11/11/2020 19:33

Why does religion affect when you can start baking?!?

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 11/11/2020 19:38

Tradition not religion surely?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/11/2020 19:43

@PersisFord
My days to remember the dead are already past, hers are still to come.
It's just a tradition, like lots of things around festivities and celebrations, that used to give structure to the work year.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 11/11/2020 19:44

I don't mean to worry you Silkie, but my DS has ASD (and ADHD) and his girlfriend's baby is due in the summer, when DS will be 17.

PersisFord · 11/11/2020 19:47

@Prokupatuscrakedatus oh I SEE!!! I thought the dates were different, like the orthodox calendar or something!!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/11/2020 19:51

BlackAmericano don't scare me - DS has AS + ADHS, too

SilkieRabbits · 11/11/2020 20:04

Good luck with that Black Atm DS is horrified by the idea of relationships just says no and runs away when the school relationship topics appear and says to not talk about it, he's a very little 13, more like 5. I'm not sure it will be a girlfriend either when / if the time comes. Most likely is a silkie chicken or rabbit atm with just cuddling.

Therainisback · 11/11/2020 20:50

According to my Fitbit I had 18 minutes of deep sleep last night. I normally have at least an hour.

DS in Wales is out of lockdown but can't visit us in England.

I have booked my spare 4 days of A/L which I have to use by the end of the year. I would like to spend them sewing & running (but will probably be pre-Christmas spring cleaning)

Taswama · 11/11/2020 20:54

DS has restocked the loo rolls (one of his jobs). They are now 9 of them artfully arranged into a pyramid above the toilet.

Champagneforeveryone · 11/11/2020 21:30

A negative test!!
Far too exciting for this thread really, but nonetheless

soddingkitten · 11/11/2020 22:13

@SilkieRabbits

Had chicken korma and rice for lunch followed by coop mince pies which were awful. I didn't know you could get bad mince pies but either I have severe covid affecting my taste or those tasted like they were made with lard.

Just getting peanuts and chocolate orange segments - eating so much junk but just trying to get house sale through. Got gas and epc tonight, solicitors tomorrow and arranged electricity for 23rd. So should calm a bit next week hopefully.

Another covid case at school in DS year.

I ate DH and DS2’s last mince pies at lunch time. Blush The replacement batch are just baking now. DS2 negotiated my Gu lemon cheesecake as a penalty at dinner time because of dessert disappointment.

DS1 was crushed to discover that DS2 had quietly snaffled all of the Celebrations over the last week, leaving only a handful of Milky Bars and Mars. He has yet to learn the ‘you snooze, you lose’ lesson.

MissConductUS · 11/11/2020 22:14

@Champagneforeveryone - Great news! When you said he was feeling better today I strongly suspected he'd test negative.

@Frownette - Congratulations on getting the loan!

I took at day of annual leave today, so lot of running around this morning. My new running pants came today. I can see why Runner's World rated them so highly. They're light, buttery soft fabric and beautifully cut. The company, based in Boston, is socially conscious and supports clean water charities. These are the pants if you have a runner on your Christmas list.

Doesn't "pants" mean knickers as opposed to "trousers" for you all in the UK? They were so comfortable that after putting them on I took a nap for 90 minutes. Grin

On the baking question, Episcopalians never stop baking so we have no such restrictions.

PersisFord · 11/11/2020 22:19

Episcopalian is such a lovely word! Lovely to say! I learned how to pronounce it from an Anne of Green gables audio book.

dolphinpose · 11/11/2020 22:29

Those running pants look great OP. Nice cut and colours.

I made a pasta sauce with an entire bunch of basil in it (as well as garlic, red wine and a sprinkling of fresh mild chilli). Tasted great but DH said next time he'd add herbs. Hmm

soddingkitten · 11/11/2020 22:33

Yes, pants are your undergarments or knickers here and trousers are your outerwear. American English is highly amusing to Brits because of differences like these. “Fannypack” and “fanny” are also funny in British English, because fanny is an old-fashioned word for a woman’s genitals. The girl’s name Fanny (shortening of the Welsh name Myfanwy) went out of fashion c.1915 for the same reason. A “fannypack” is a bumbag here and an American fanny is a British bum. We do have a slang phrase “fannying about” which more like faffing/going about a task in a really inefficient way. What do Americans call a British fanny? We need to know!
