Hi all

I couldn’t find the new thread so here is one I set up. It’s windy out there! Glad I weeded my flowerbeds a couple of days ago.

Dunno how to bold or quote properly - first paragraph is quoting Buttons.

I'm so angry about schools my children need an Education more than they need xmas. I'm working all over Christmas anyway (nhs) and family live 5 hours away so not a chance of seeing them .

Why is all about a few days. Lots of people will be working. The government are trying to make out they are doing us favour.
Just keep the school open that all we need.

MercyBooth · 01/11/2020 18:32

I could meet a friend outside, I was thinking more of DM who wouldnt be able to meet outside. Im so angry at the nonsensical shit. Cant go round to see her but could sit on a plane with a load of strangers for hours. Fed up with this Kafkesque dystopian crap.

justasking111 · 01/11/2020 18:35

Forgot to tell you, last night after reading about the great reset, time and again I decided to find out what it was all about. Never mind going down a rabbit hole it was more a rabbit warren, lost an hour chasing links. I know more about it now but have more questions than answers.

I've got another queen song for the playlist.

I WANT TO BREAK FREE 🎤🎶

Dementors are bad enough but dementing hypocrites do my head in. The biggest one on my Facebook now constantly banging on with "how hard can it be to just stay the fuck at home" memes....
Had a Halloween party last night for her kids and grandkids and is now at the pub celebrating someone's birthday.
Do these things, don't do them, I couldn't give a tiny rats ass, but stop judging the fuck out of anyone else who chooses to do things that they are perfectly allowed to do.

I'd interpret that as her being vulnerable and needing you to visit inside. Her health is vulnerable at the moment which override the standard rules on contact.

DM and I are both tier 2, I'm not going to make an arthritic 82 year old hang around outside which is guarenteed to harm her or at least cause her several days of increases pain. DB is her bubble (she's long since widowed), but we still have a human right to a family life.

Can I ask a non Covid question please? Does anyone have any ideas what I can use to stop my eye itching? My eyelid was painful last night but the itching is driving me mad today. I'll go to the chemist in the morning but need a temporary fix!

(Apologies for asking here but I'm worried if I post elsewhere I'll be told I obviously have covid as I've seen all sorts being mentioned as symptoms!)

I have a vague recollection that cold used tea bags are good for soothing sore eyes. No idea if they would help with itching but it's a cheap and quick fix to try.
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/11/2020 19:01

MercyBooth I agree that you should visit your Mum inside. As far as I know you've always been able to visit for caring reasons.

BTW were also a child free couple. I saw my uncle and his partner but other than our neighbour upstairs we rarely see anyone else

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/11/2020 19:02

Thank you @JamSarnie, I'll try it!

Sonicthehedgehogg · 01/11/2020 19:05

Got any antihistamines? DH takes a once-a-day tablet when his eye gets irritated or his nose which is definitely nothing to do with his grim nose hairs

Blobby10 · 01/11/2020 19:07

*@PinkSparklyPussyCat * yes the cold used teabags definitely work. As well as a damp flannel put into the freezer for 10 minutes. Any longer and it freezes which isn't so nice!

@justasking111

Worldometer today says UK 162 dead.

Wales deaths public health Wales says 16, google says 13,

Scotland 24 or 6,

England google 278 dead,

We cannot even get a straight answer on the internet.

I tend to pick one and stick to it. I use NHS hospital deaths, it seems easiest to access the data by day.

David Paton on twitter puts it in a table showing actual dates so it's a good way of seeing the overall pattern.

Numbers likely to be down at weekend, possibly most accurate midweek

amicissimma · 01/11/2020 19:36

@LivinLaVidaLoki and @Reedwarbler, I've just been listening to this weeks Planet Normal podcast. For a while they've been discussing the Care Home visiting problems and featuring an elderly couple called Robert and Josephine - she has dementia, his visits are limited/restricted/stopped from time to time. Today they interviewed him. Very moving and I recommend having tissues handy.

But the thing is, they are on the case. They mentioned an organisation who are fighting this. Then they read an email from someone with a young, healthy relative in a care home because of learning difficulties and the similar problems they are having with visiting. He was isolated when a staff member tested positive and they weren't allowed to grab him and take him home.

Who'd have thought a bunch of notorious, hardened granny-killers would be so nice Grin

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 01/11/2020 19:37

Fake rules all over the main boards today! Lots of you can't drive to exercise, can only leave the house once a day, shop once a week, only buy luxury items if its part of a big shop....

Whoooootaminute · 01/11/2020 19:38

TheOrchidKiller I don't see why you can't meet a friend for a walk and a sit down on a bench. Forget the flask take a hip flask.. Wine

I plan to meet my friend to go running. We possibly won't be 2m apart but whatever..

Is it possible to hide whole topics?

I find myself drawn to the coronaviris threads even though I know I'll get riled up.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 01/11/2020 19:54

You can hide topics if you're on the proper website, but not the chat app. Not that it helps, it's all over chat and AIBU too.

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 01/11/2020 19:56

Mercy booth thanks for sharing that article.
This really needs more publicity than it's getting. I think if I was dying I would choose to be home surrounded by loved ones which could account for some of the increase, but how many have died unnecessarily either home or at hospital.

This figure was a surprise to me and puts daily covid deaths in perspective. I think we are oblivious to how much dying there is daily usually.

Usually around 300 people die each day in their homes in England and Wales

I often type out a response but then delete it as I think what's the point if the thread is full on dementoring.

It's so tempting to engage but I sometimes wonder if that just gives them validity to their bonkers beliefs.

But you can, I can’t imagine anyone will say it’s a problem if you call it “care” given her age. I know you said other people live there but that’s not the point, if your father is elderly and the niece isn’t there 24/7, it’s fine.

I mentioned mums had an emergency button alarm thing fitted. This is tier 2. When I explained to the lady from the council why I was there - to be sure mum understands how it’s working - she said it was fine.

The original lockdown rules also said you could go if someone needed help around the house or some such. Of course mum had to deal with a leaking loo in lockdown- so I went along to supervise the plumber and make sure she didn’t get fleeced in any way.
