What was the scandal at your school?

There was the maths teacher who was known to be a bit of a creep, who was caught snagging a pupil in the school hall...never heard from him again.
And the headmistress was caught with her hands in the till, quick retirement and shipped out.
I went to a decent school I promise!

So glad the law on pupil/teacher relationships has changed.

A married male teacher at my school abused his position and groomed then had a longstanding relationship with and eventually married a pupil, they had DC. started when she was around 14 and he was in his 30s. Grim.

Dozer · 29/10/2020 13:17

A couple of other male teachers of a similar age snogged sixth formers on evenings at the pub. Sleazy.

Nicola345 · 29/10/2020 13:23

A teacher was arrested for having indecent images of children.

One of the senior management was living with a 6th former from her previous school.

A few girls were taken “on holiday” to Pakistan in year 10 or 11 and never came back because they’d been married off by their parents while they were there.

A boy in the year above me committed suicide by jumping off a road bridge.

An extremely creepy male PE teacher who found any excuse to touch female students or wander into the girls changing room. It shocks me now that everyone knew about him and nothing was ever done.

Geppili · 29/10/2020 13:29

A close friend had a affair with the Art teacher.

Dozer · 29/10/2020 14:00

Not an ‘affair’: a teacher abusing his position to groom and abuse a teen girl.

Sewsosew · 29/10/2020 14:01

DT teacher was a piss head. He would occasionally get wankered at lunchtime at the pub down the road, cause some drama and get sent home. He would then wear a shirt and tie for the next few days and look sheepish, then do it all again.

I worked in a school where a teacher plugged his phone into a school computer and managed to download all the photos. This is included many images of his wife naked and loads of his dick. We had to go through them all as the investigation, we were hysterical laughing. He agreed to quit as it was accidental and so embarrassed.

PE teacher caught having sex with 15 yr old pupil on ski ing trip and a lad, receiving 5 strokes of the cane, turned and punched the headmaster in the face, grabbed the cane, thwacked him with that then ran like hell! Also, years ago, I cared for the elderly ex headmistress of a very elite girls school. She liked to run her hands up us carers legs, under our dresses!

Exactly the same thing happened at my school... could be the same school.....
TicTac80 · 29/10/2020 14:27

I went to private school (back home and in UK) before starting at grammar school in year 9.
At the very naice prep school:
-pupil got suspended for stealing a pen/some sort of tat from the gift shop at Windsor Safari Park (we went there on a school trip.
-one of my classmates got expelled (we all stood outside the Headmaster's office on the day my classmate left as a "peaceful protest").
-another pupil got suspended for not handing in money he'd collected for a charity thing.
-there was odd talk about the Art Master. In later years I found out he "had to leave the school quickly".
-Ditto one of the Music teachers - he left the school quickly. Unsure why though.
A few of the people I was at that school with got expelled from their subsequent public schools for drinking/drugs (a lot were from v wealthy families, and had huge allowances. My folks were well off too....but I didn't get an allowance. Not that I would have done drugs etc - I was too scared of pissing off my folks!!).

At secondary/grammar:
-couple of teenage pregnancies.
-aforementioned Maths teacher holding up the off-license (to sort gambling debts) and getting jailed. This happened around the time we finished our A-Levels. A friend in my year REALLY fancied him (he was quite a young teacher).
-PE teacher (she hated me) had an affair with my mum's friend's husband and then married him. Her getting married was a shocker as the rumours were that she (PE teacher) was a lesbian. She got married to him whilst I was still at school, but I only put two and two together (re: the affair) after I left school.
-one of the girls in a lower year phoned the police about a fake bomb threat at the school. Whole school got evacuated!
-on the last day of 6th form (before A-Level exams), a bunch of us headed down to the pub for lunch and drinks and got drunk...and then realised that a few of the teachers were there. Oops. I wasn't 18 at that point, so spent the rest of the school day trying to hide the fact that I was pissed and praying that the teachers wouldn't call my parents/chuck me out of school!!

I'm still in touch with quite a few of my old teachers, which is fab.

Not to do with school, but the worst thing I encountered was finding out a few years back that my old choir master was a convicted paedophile. I sung in the church choir from age 10-15. The choir master was a lovely guy: used to invite us (and parents) to his HUGE house out in the sticks. He would do fab BBQ's, and we'd all have a lovely time. So I had loads of lovely memories. I looked him up online as I wanted to see if he'd be the organist at my wedding. Big mistake. I found out that he was the leader of a large paedophile ring that went on in the 1970's and 1980's: grooming young boys (from other church choirs), and doing awful things to them at that very house that I (and my younger brother and all our mates) had been to. I felt so sick (and also felt very lucky that we'd all got out of it unscathed).

nibdedibble · 29/10/2020 14:33

Tbh I’m really shocked at the number of teachers grooming/shagging/impregnating/marrying pupils.

You know there’s a few but this is bloody loads!!

Curlygirl06 · 29/10/2020 15:03

@Cupoftchaiagain

This might be outing so note it was actually a school near me not mine but it’s a good story. A man in his 30s faked being 17 and attended the school as a pupil for some months. Apparently he wanted to retake his qualifications...

Also the pupil/teacher affair story. They moved in together.

Was that a school in Wiltshire?
Curlygirl06 · 29/10/2020 15:57

I've been to loads of schools as we moved a lot when I was a kid.

Several dubious teachers who were a bit too friendly with pupils.

Mad Italian teacher who would get on his desk and jump up and down screaming and shouting at the kids if they were messing about.

My daughter had a teacher who was acting inappropriately with her and her friends, asking peculiar personal questions. She and her friends went straight to the head, and he was sacked. She told me about it after he'd been sacked as she was worried if she'd told me first I'd have gone to the school and ripped him a new one. She was right about that!

The biggest scandal was a few years after I'd left that school (same one my daughter went to) A teacher was having an affair with the geography teacher, and he decided to end it. She went to his house and murdered his wife and baby. The geography teacher was a neighbour of my ex husband.

Curlygirl06 · 29/10/2020 16:20

Just looked it up, they weren't having an affair but rumours abounded that they were.

Sideorderofchips · 29/10/2020 17:05

Private school

It teacher was known dodgy and later arrested for making indecent images. He was also the scout leader

Art teachers down the pub at lunch and after school with sixth formers

Chemistry teacher who groomed students (including me) left very suddenly to go up north with his girlfriend

West Midlands private school

It's amazing how teachers, particularly male ones, grooming and abusing teenage girls was totally accepted as something that just got an eyeroll from people not so long ago.
TakeUsHome · 29/10/2020 19:44

The ones in our school were a subset of the ones mentioned above. There was one teacher that was occasionally drunk during school time, she was actually an OK teacher, but you could tell when she was not right.

We had a new teacher join and leave after a few months rather suddenly. She had been responsible for theft from staff room.

The one that stands out for me though is when we had a German girl (with English dad) join the school year. She was pretty, spoke excellent English, super smart and good at all subjects, and was great at sports. All the boys and girls in the year were initially in awe of her. After a few weeks, there was a story around that she was giving hand jobs to the basketball team (we were 15 at the time), and suddenly almost every boy in the year signed up for a sport nobody has interest in :) ... it would be a bit of a long story ... but it turned out to be true (I saw her in action!)

SBTLove · 29/10/2020 22:15

@Curlygirl06
Was it not maths teachers? I’m hoping there’s not been two cases.

Ltdannygreen · 29/10/2020 22:18

One of the girls got caught giving a bj to a lad in the science class.
That was the most drama we had whilst I was there.

ColourMeExhausted · 29/10/2020 22:24

A 12 year old classmate getting pregnant. Her boyfriend was 27. He was murdered before the baby was born. That was pretty bad actually...

Vintagegoth · 29/10/2020 22:30

One of our maths teachers was jailed for armed robbery.

Mrsfrumble · 29/10/2020 22:34

Oh yes! The very young classmates with “boyfriends” in their 20s and 30s was quite common. Eww. (Although no one got pregnant or murdered. That’s horrific.)

Vintagegoth · 29/10/2020 22:34

@TicTac80 clearly went to the same school as me Wink

Shizzlestix · 29/10/2020 22:35

Head and bursar embezzled loads of money and scarpered (local school recently, not mine)

Gay teachers-bearing in mind it was a Catholic girls’ school in the 80s-telling us they were gay and in a relationship. They used to watch us showering.

Sixth formers having to leave because they were pregnant.

Minor compared to some of the tales on here!
