Come and join me
I loathe the long winter evenings, cannot abide all the snuggling
And fucking hygge and cosy can do one
Oh and no I don't want a hot choc Envy
I'm already longing for spring
Even more so this year currently sat in a lockdown
Come and get comfy and there won't be a squishy blanket or fairy light in sight Grin

I have found my tribe! Already counting down the days til midwinter and the start of the long pull to lighter evenings.

I hate autumn. The death, the damp, the dog, the cold. And you can shove your autumn colours where the sun don't shine. Literally.

devildeepbluesea · 26/10/2020 14:13

The fog. I love my dog.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 26/10/2020 14:43

I can't stand all the twee declarations of how people love cosy snuggles, fire on, hot chocolate, and all that crap. In reality, our weather is more like cool, drizzly and damp rather than cold and crisp like a Christmas card picture! And yes, hot chocolate before bed means all the kids waking up at midnight for a wee!

TabbyM · 26/10/2020 15:23

I'm hoping that part -time working from home may make winter slightly better.

I don't like a hot summer though as it gets too hot but I like Spring/early summer when there is loads of light but no risk of crisping.

jennie0412 · 26/10/2020 15:24

Everyone knows that autumn is the superior season, though. Warm tones, cold but not freezing and rain instead of sludge and hail

Ginfordinner · 26/10/2020 15:25

Sorry, but you are wrong jennie Grin

Artesia · 26/10/2020 15:37

I love autumn and winter, but am always a bit bemused at the suggestion of “snuggling up with a hot choc” as an activity. My DH would think I’d lost the plot if I invited him to join me to snuggle up in our PJs- he’s an adult man not a tween on a sleepover. And my children would last 2 minutes before they had either drunk the whole thing and slunk off again, or spilled it all over the sofa, “cosy blanket and snuggly pjs”....

userxx · 26/10/2020 15:58

@jennie0412 Move along now, nothing for you here :)

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 26/10/2020 16:00

I hate watching tv and films. Just get bored. Can’t do snuggling up.

MouldySoup · 26/10/2020 16:09

Hate the "snuggling with a hot chocolate #familytime #blessed" brigade, but I do enjoy autumn when night time actually feels like night time and it's not uncomfortably warm any more.

joystir59 · 26/10/2020 16:18

Don't mind going to a certain edgy minimalist cafe in town where they sell superb drinking chocolate made with 70% chocolate. Dark and slightly bitter. Live on the edge of the sea with raw and exciting Weather. Love being out in the elements with the dog then going indoors for Jack Daniels

joystir59 · 26/10/2020 16:21

I don't have a fireplace, just central heating, no cosy throws as the dog uses the throw on the sofa to hide under when fireworks go off.

RussetandGold · 26/10/2020 16:23
@RussetandGold aha There’s hope for you yet. Come for a crisp crunchy walk then snuggle with the hot chocolate brigade. You know you want to. Wink
@Foghead

😂😂😂 Geroff me with your hot chocolate and snuggly blankets.

I’m hiding!

TheChosenTwo · 26/10/2020 16:30

What I hate the most is when people suggest gifting a ‘cosy hamper’ complete with ‘a sachet of hot choc’ - what a shit present Grin
Apparently the only time some people ever drink hot chocolate is on Christmas Eve snuggled under blankets Confused
I don’t drink hot drinks anyway, my dc prefer the Whittards hot chocolates which they make with milk.
Having said all that, I love this time of year, I spend most of it in front of the fire and getting mega hot because I love the heat Grin

shinynewapple2020 · 26/10/2020 16:57

Hmm well ordinarily I would say I enjoy being snuggled and cosy when it's cold outside. That would be after I'd got in from work having has to brave all the horrible weather for my journey. Being snuggled and cosy is going to lose its appeal when I've been snuggled and cosy in my home office all day .

I do enjoy crisp Autumn days and getting out into the countryside . But what really gets me through the winter is a short sunshine break , just to Southern Spain so I'm not talking of sunbathing weather but just the chance to feel a bit of sun on my skin. I don't really get on with too hot weather but love a bit of out of season sun .

I'm normally quite a positive person but yesterday seeing the start of the dark days and expecting to go into higher level Covid restrictions (so any socialising will involve 'snuggling' in the back garden ) I was feeling very down yesterday thinking of this going on for months . Feeling a bit better today though and TBF by yesterday evening once we'd shut the dark out and I was feeling snuggly in my living room things didn't seem so bad .

Foghead · 26/10/2020 17:09

I’m going to try this recipe for hot chocolate. Mostly because I like the attitude of it. I’m sure it’ll taste better with a little added extra something

florascotia2 · 26/10/2020 17:30

The ghastly snuggly hot chocolate hype is the winter equivalent of the equally sickening spring/summer prosecco hype.

Both are equally manufactured by marketeers and both are equally, horribly, patronising to women

By all means enjoy hot chocolate if you like it. (and - dare I say this - please, please make it fair trade or equivalent, if you don't want to destroy other human families' livlihoods so that you can 'snuggle' (ugh).). But please don't think that (a) it's good for anyone (b) = the only nice way to spend the colder months.

Ginfordinner · 26/10/2020 17:42

I'm always bemued by the "I hate summer" posters complaining about the heat when it is 18 degrees outside, then in the same post say how much they like snuggling under blankets, drinking hot chocolate in the winter Confused

SurreyHillsGirl · 26/10/2020 17:50

@MysweetAudrina

I'm sitting here in my comfy blanket, candle lit, winter garland lights on, winter tree with lights on and wondering should I buy a velvetiser I just had a slow cooked rib of beef with carrot and swede and the heat is ion and the dog is snuggled up on my feet. Give me warm, sunny weather over winter but if I'm going to do winter I'm going to do it in comfort and little things like lights and candles give me a lift. The seasons are there for a reason and I thinks it's important to enjoy each one for what they offer. Lovely 2 hour autumnal walk earlier and relaxing now.

Winter is here in the UK every year for quite some time. Why not see the good in it and embrace it. Moaning about winter and those who quite like it is so pointless Confused

Ginfordinner · 26/10/2020 17:54

Moaning about winter and those who quite like it is so pointless

And moaning abut the few really hot days we get every year is even more pointless Grin

One good thing about WFH now though is I won't miss the commute - driving up and down a crowded M1 in the dark in driving rain.

WhatamessIgotinto · 26/10/2020 17:56

Literally none of my friends go on about 'snuggling', hot chocolate and being cosy. None of them! My friends are better than yours. Grin

Cauterize · 26/10/2020 18:05

I could stomach it for the month of December as I'm quite fond of Christmas.

Other than that, I can't stand dark night, dreary weather and excessive snuggling. Long summer nights are what I live for!

BrassicaBabe · 26/10/2020 18:21

I've got my sun lamp thingy and my vitamin D. Hot chocolate is sweet nastiness at any time of year.

It's 6.30. Can I go to bed now?! Maybe wake me up when there are daffodils?!

On a little serious note, what do folks do to keep their energy levels up at this time of year?!

LolaSmiles · 26/10/2020 18:30

Moaning about winter and those who quite like it is so pointless
I know right, any lighthearted discussions about life things thay are mildly annoying are just soooooo pointless.

The ghastly snuggly hot chocolate hype is the winter equivalent of the equally sickening spring/summer prosecco hype.
Both are equally manufactured by marketeers and both are equally, horribly, patronising to women
Yes, yes and more yes.
Can we add in 'why mummy drinks / mummy needs gin' into the box of things that are patronising shit aimed at women too?
