Come and join me
I loathe the long winter evenings, cannot abide all the snuggling
And fucking hygge and cosy can do one
Oh and no I don't want a hot choc Envy
I'm already longing for spring
Even more so this year currently sat in a lockdown
Come and get comfy and there won't be a squishy blanket or fairy light in sight Grin

To be fair today here is a glorious autumn day
And then it's going to piss down for days
Going to get out in the sun as much as poss whilst I can

Oh, andI hate the Christmas pot pourri smells.
Cinnamon and other spices are for food only.

lurkingfromhome · 26/10/2020 10:47

Totally agree that the autumn cliché (crisp sunny days, kicking leaves on a glorious country walk, fresh air and rosy cheeks) happen about twice. The rest of the time it's pissing with rain and totally grey for the few hours of daylight.

Hot chocolate is the most over-rated drink ever and I have no idea why it's made out to be such a treat.

RussetandGold · 26/10/2020 10:47

Me too. I’m really bored with the “autumn colours”. Fuck off winter, I want green again!

Hobnobswantshernameback · 26/10/2020 11:02

Joking apart the lack of light really does for my energy levels by early January
This year i caught the lurgy just after new year and spent most of January trying to shake it off
The thought of a crap immune system in January next year gives me the heebs
Am desperately trying to get plenty of exercise, vitamins and sleep in the hope it will help

Hobnobswantshernameback · 26/10/2020 12:17

Oh lord YY to whoever mentioned "Christmas/winter smells" those hideous candles and shit that make me Envy
And fucking pumpkin spice everything Envy

Why does everyone love autumn, everything is dying, you're celebrating death! Spring is so much nicer.

Exactly!!! Oh look, isnt that tree beautiful, no its not its dying slowly and fading away, there is no beauty in that.

Love spring, new beginnings and all of that.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 26/10/2020 12:29

Spring always feels fresh and new
I can understand why years ago people did a huge "spring clean"
Real sense of starting over

@TheSweetestHalleluja

I do love snuggling (and hot chocolate and cosiness and blankets and hygge Grin

But I do really struggle around January/February when it is colder and Christmas has been and gone so all the excitement and anticipation of that has gone, those months really do drag on so long. By then I'm so over snuggling and hot chocolate and ready for Spring! So grateful when March arrives and signs of Spring are everywhere.

Yes. February on the Northumberland coast goes on FOREVER ...

I know! I was trying to coax myself into living then a bit longer... Grin

RussetandGold · 26/10/2020 12:35

Loving!

Squirrel26 · 26/10/2020 12:47

I bloody hate winter. I hate the dark, I hate rain, I hate mud. I have Raynauds; my hands and feet are always freezing. My dog needs walking (in the dark. And the rain), wants letting in and out 4 million times a day so he can track mud all through the kitchen, and regards a ‘cozy throw’ as a dangerous invader that needs to be ripped to shreds. I hate having to wear 15 layers and constantly have to take them on and off. I hate coming home wet and having to find somewhere to dry everything. I hate my car being full of mud and coats. I have a horse, and he’s also perpetually covered in mud and needs rugs put on, taken off, repaired (most of which has to be done by torchlight). I HATE IT.

I do like hot chocolate. I plan dogs walks around cafes where I can get one. Grin

Why do we not do them anymore? I dont know anyone who does one.

SoupDragon · 26/10/2020 13:03

It isn't dying though. It's hibernating.

Back in the day when people relied on candles and open fires houses got pretty mucky over winter.

MIL used to redecorate her living room every spring when she had an open fire.

Foghead · 26/10/2020 13:20

@RussetandGold aha There’s hope for you yet. Come for a crisp crunchy walk then snuggle with the hot chocolate brigade. You know you want to. Wink

bumbleybeebumbley · 26/10/2020 13:25

Oh god, it can all just fuck off!!!

The only thing I'm looking forward to is Christmas and that's because we are staying at home this year.

Despise having to look for shoes to go in the garden, I miss the lovely warm patio on my bare feet.

And hot chocolate is overrated....

I'm a joy to be around. Grin

Furries · 26/10/2020 13:30

Hate, hate, hate it! Getting dark so early, the constant bloody rain and dampness. I’m always counting down the weeks until 21st December and then I start to feel a bit more hopeful. Give me doors flung open, bare feet/flip flops, the smell of freshly mowed grass, sitting on my swing seat with a cold glass of wine and listening to the birds. Like a pp, I too have been planting bulbs to have something to look forward to.

I hate all the descriptions of crisp autumn walks (never crisp and dry in my experience!), being cosy etc etc etc. I live in a really old cottage which isn’t great at heating up. My only nod to “cosy” is that I treated myself to a heated faux fur throw from Lakeland two years ago. Nothing to do with trying to create a cosy cottage look, but it’s blooming bliss to have that over me on the sofa in the winter and to actually feel warm!

You've pinched it - that's where its gone!

It was supposed to be lovely here today, raining the rest of the week. But it's not it's grey & threatening to rain.

How's a girl supposed to get some nice autumn photos in this?

I'm going to back out slowly now though before DoYouWannaBeInMyQuiche savages me! As I do live the Autumn & Winter as well as - not instead of - spring & summer.

I lived overseas for years where the seasons don't change much and it definitely gives you an appreciation of each season!

Hobnobswantshernameback · 26/10/2020 13:37

One good thing about this thread
We're having a bit of an "autumn clean"
DH has even done some painting
To be fair lockdown means there's fuck all else to Grin
Dd wants to put up some fairy light 🤦‍♀️
At least dim lighting will mean the dirt will be less visible when I cba to clean Grin

It's a bank holiday where I am, so we get the extra hour and a holiday weekend. Weather wise this bank holiday is always better than the spring and summer ones, which makes me cross.

Crinkle77 · 26/10/2020 13:50

I love chocolate but harshly chocolate. It's too sickly and sweet.

Crinkle77 · 26/10/2020 13:51

Grrr should say hate hot chocolate. So wish there was an edit button.

userxx · 26/10/2020 14:09

@Ginfordinner I've learned something new today!! Thanks for that, it makes perfect sense.
