Come and join me
I loathe the long winter evenings, cannot abide all the snuggling
And fucking hygge and cosy can do one
Oh and no I don't want a hot choc Envy
I'm already longing for spring
Even more so this year currently sat in a lockdown
Come and get comfy and there won't be a squishy blanket or fairy light in sight Grin

I hate the winter. I'm already longing for spring.

Pet8 · 25/10/2020 19:51

I grudgingly changed the time on the kitchen clock before and wished we could fast forward to Spring. I'm under the duvet in bed because it's so cold and I can't afford to put the heating on. Sitting here in a zipped up fleece and hiking socks with a cup of tea.

Shitzngiggles · 25/10/2020 19:58

I hate hate hate this time of year. Give me lovely long warm sunny days anytime. Warm evenings when it's still light till 10. Hate jackets, coats, jumpers, umbrellas. Feel claustrophobic with more than just a t shirt and shorts on. Hate going out to the car first thing in the morning when it's cold, dark, wet - how anyone thinks thats preferable to a pleasant warm sunny morning is beyond me. Hate that it's dark so early for so long.
I count down the weeks till 21st December when it starts getting just that little bit lighter.

EerilyDeleted · 25/10/2020 20:03

I hate the dark evenings but not as much as I hate the feel of hot sun on my skin in summer, if we could have crisp, sunny September days where it didn't get dark till 10pm that would be perfect.

foodtoorder · 25/10/2020 20:07

I have found my tribe!
I have always felt like I was the only one!

I like hot chocolate when it's made properly but I like that at any time of year. We also have our blankets out all year (my favourite place to be is in the summerhouse on a summer's afternoon or evening, with a nice cup of tea, reading whilst underneath the quilt) so they're not just a snuggling, autumn or winter thing.

Earlier this year, back in August, I put some micro LED lights around the fire place and a few more in some old Yankee Candle jars because I like the look of them. They're going to be there in all seasons as well rather than just an autumn or winter thing. We have string lights in the summerhouse too, shaped like lighthouses and beach huts, so again, I don't think they've got anything to do with being cosy in the dark months.

For me, cosiness is not so much laying about and "snuggling"; instead it's more to do with feeling safe and relaxed whilst getting on with my usual chores and activities.

DoYouWannaBeInMyQuiche · 25/10/2020 20:16

Could all those who like blankets, shit weather, dark evenings, etc, etc, please go and start their own snuggly thread about all this crap?

We need a haven where we can pretend that it's still summer (I'm leaving several unimportant clocks here on BST, as they remind me that it will come again this has nothing to do with me not knowing how to change the time on them ).

Foghead · 25/10/2020 20:23

I hate the dark evenings. I don’t mind some snuggling ie chilling out the sofa? But it has to come after being out in weather that doesn’t feel too terrible to be out in.
Hot chocolate is for the dcs.

eggandonion · 25/10/2020 20:24

I lived for a few years in east Anglia where it was dark really early, I hated that. I'm in the south west of Ireland, which has more evening light, but I hate the hour change.

HMSSophie · 25/10/2020 20:33

I love the summer so much that I honestly cannot fathom how anyone could prefer cold and dark. I mean I can understand people are different, but surely it's a fundamental of being a human, to prefer warmth and light?
I hate the next 5 months and become a different person in the cold months. And not in a good way.

Northernsoullover · 25/10/2020 20:40

Its miserable isn't it? The worst thing is that I get upset as early as August knowing that autumn is only its way. April can still be a bit nippy (although this year was lovely) I'm only truly happy in May, June and July Blush

Trailing1 · 25/10/2020 20:43

I don't particularly care for hot chocolate and fairy lights but I love being warm and hence have the warmest throw ever on my sofa to wrap up in.

shesgonebatshitagain · 25/10/2020 21:04

Look on the bright side
You don’t have to shave your legs Grin

I bloody hate hot chocolate And snuggling too.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/10/2020 21:16

I like hot chocolate... but I'd rather have it around a campfire before retreating to my sleeping bag and tent.
Blankets are handy for keeping my toes over 10oC. How can extremities feel colder than the ambient air???

It's not that hot chocolate, blankets and all that is inherently bad. They're just pretty crap compensation for 4-6 months of limited daylight, perpetual cold, near constant damp and precious few of those sharp, dry days that MNers tend to rave about.

Ideally I'd cut November and January out of the year and have a brief winter of December and February. Enough to have a slight chance of snow and enjoy spring when it comes.

I've been planting bulbs so I can look forwards to seeing them again in a few months. I like the simplicity of summer and the optomism and potential of spring.

DoYouWannaBeInMyQuiche · 25/10/2020 21:31

@shesgonebatshitagain 😂I don't shave my legs anyway. I'd say I CBA, but it's probably due to being blonde.

eggandonion · 25/10/2020 21:32

We had snow late February a couple of years ago which was not so bad with the light being better. My cousin goes to visit his NZ relatives in late January for a few weeks. I'd like that!

DrCoconut · 25/10/2020 21:37

I looked out my window at 6 and felt crap today. Just a few weeks ago I was eating dinner outside in the evening now look at it. My mood and energy go off a cliff edge after about September and it lasts until spring. It's the light, the quality of it changes and it's horrid. I also can't seem to absorb vitamin D properly via my stomach (my pre Christmas treat is an endoscopy to confirm coeliac disease 😫) so my levels will drop now. I can't understand why anyone would prefer getting up in the dark and scraping ice off the car in the pissing rain ready for the school run over getting up on a lovely bright day and just going when it's time. Or being at the park when it's horizontal sleet and dark by 4 vs warm and still light at 8. It just doesn't make sense to me. Give me daylight, doors and windows open and warmth over blankets and hot drinks (poorly person things) any day.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 25/10/2020 21:53

I light candles all year round.

I fucking hate ‘hot choc’ and bastard ‘snuggles’

Michaelbaubles · 25/10/2020 22:12

I’ve never understood the drinking of hot chocolate being touted as an actual activity - it’s not a thing in itself and anyway takes about ten minutes so what’s occupying the other 23 hours and 50 long dark minutes of the day?

lazylinguist · 25/10/2020 22:19

Hot chocolate is just a drink. Getting warm is good if the weather is cold, it doesn't have to be called snuggling. Most people don't do the cosy thing because they love long winter evenings, they do it because it's their way of making them less crap!

ODFOx · 25/10/2020 22:50

OP:if you added a cinnamon sprinkle to your hot cocoa you'd feel differently. Is it that your snuggle socks aren't fluffy enough? Have you considered a cashmere silk blend? Hygge!

ilovesooty · 25/10/2020 22:57

Same here. And the winter lovers can stick their cosy snuggles up their arses.
Ponoka7 · 26/10/2020 06:57

@MysweetAudrina, buy the Velvertiser. I wasn't a fan of hot chocolate (unless it had baileys in), but that makes hotel chocolate cafe quality, drinking chocolate. Get the mixed flavoured box. I bought mine from QVC, it's on easy pay installments and you can return it, if it's not for you.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/10/2020 07:05

Great thread. Chocolate gives me migraines and I don’t understand the obsession with pyjamas in daytime. Are everyone’s normal clothes really so uncomfortable? I have to get dressed unless I am really properly ill.

Not sure why hearing about other people’s snuggling plans feels so icky but it does, in a TMI sort of way.

Limpid · 26/10/2020 07:10

@Parkandride

Why does everyone love autumn, everything is dying, you're celebrating death! Spring is so much nicer.

I do prefer cold weather though, and a hot chocolate is always welcome

Because you don’t get spring without autumn and winter? I used to live somewhere without seasons, and the sameness was incredibly depressing.
