(Socially distanced of course and in strictest obedience of all localised lockdowns and 3 or 5 tiers and whatever illogic the powers that be can dream up next)

Robin “ It's the stupidity of it: how unnecessary it is and how the government is now so caught up in its own stupidity that they can't get out”

They can get out. They don’t want to. They’ve seen how easy it is control people and they won’t let go unless there’s massive resistance.

Reedwarbler · 28/10/2020 18:45

Ha, illiteracy? How this for illiteracy displayed on our 'Spotted in...' facebook page. Someone driving inconsiderately was described as an 'oxymoron'. It was pointed out that a moron and an oxymoron are not the same thing, but this was quibbled with by the poster!

TheOrchidKiller · 28/10/2020 19:14

@RobinHobb
That sign has at least reminded me there's only 9 weeks to Christmas (not that I can be arsed right now).

@Recycledblonde
We can't wear cloth masks either in non-clinical areas. I wear a cloth one to get into the building & along the corridor to where the surgical masks are kept, then I swap. A colleague got told off for doing that, but pointed out it was that or no mask & what did they prefer?!

Tier 3 Plus-Size (bumper fun here) is thus (from BBC website):
"Nottinghamshire's auction houses, car boot sales, betting shops, saunas and tattoo parlours must close, the government has announced."
Gutted. That's all my plans for this Saturday ruined. Grin
Also, no buying alcohol from supermarkets after 9pm but you can get smashed in a restaurant until 10pm. No one is going to buy a 4pack of cans & litre of cheap vodka & hold a house party from 7pm, are they?

I am mostly cheesed off because we've lost the house balloon pump & I have an awesome Bat balloon I wanted to inflate this evening. It's stupid how silly things can cause an attack of The Sulks at the moment.

Moron is Welsh for carrot. Just thought I'd share that as for some reason it always pleases me.

Sorry to hear about your FiL @Orangeblossom7777. Good that he can have visitors, hope he makes a full and quick recovery.

MagdaS · 28/10/2020 19:59

My work are being sensible and have issued guidance about masks in the office because I think there has been some dementoring about them from some. Wear one only if you want to, and if you do then make sure you don’t touch it, etc. And a very clear instruction that no one should be challenged for not wearing one.

There has also been a change in the wording of the guidance about WFH with specific reference to some people needing to go in for emotional or mental health, and that we may continue.

It was the most sensible missive on this bullshit I have read all year (with the possible exception of the email I crafted getting my team back in on a rota basis back in July 😉).

Our uni "substitute for placement" stuff has been unveiled... we have to dress as if on placement at all times... in our bloody living room! I'm working in a bloody freezing cold conservatory - not an office or clinic!

I keep hearing new definitions of insanity. That’s definitely on the list!

ultragroupie · 28/10/2020 20:19

[quote TabbyStar]Hi ultra - welcome!

It should be here - they moved it a couple of weeks ago. I was looking at it earlier as we are now on it (well DD anyway)!

Great Thankyou! I’d come over all conspiracy-theory-ish! 😄

SoMacron has said France lockdowns on Friday for a month. Germany on Monday.

DominaShantotto · 28/10/2020 20:27

Yep sadly it's real - considering most of our lecturers happily tell us they're in PJ bottoms and slippers it's ridiculous really. Plus I'm changing the colour of my hair again tomorrow and I'm fucked if it's going a normal shade!

Oh god - what a nightmare How long to do they plan to keep doing this
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/10/2020 20:34

I see the French are still allowing care home visits though

Conservative Clubs in Tier 3 areas can continue to ‘supply’ alcohol to Members without needing to serve a 'substantial meal' whereas other licenced premises that 'sell' alcohol have to close.
Odd isn't it how these loopholes always seem to work

MercyBooth · 28/10/2020 20:47

@RobinHobb I would love to know who made that meme in the firs place?

Arseholes.

I thought the French had ruled out locking down again.

But if they and Germany do, so will we. Hope is dying fast for me. What's the point any more?

What kind of world is this for my DC? They are being so hurt by this. I can't even help them. I cuddle them, but they need more than that. DD1 and her friends don't know how to interact anymore. DS struggled with friendships anyway and now never really sees anyone. How can he learn when it's only his sisters he interacts with?

I am despairing and not in an 'I despair' way. I am genuinely despairing.

But Yonderland is brilliant. Am 2 episodes in and I love Debbie. She is brilliant. Martha Howe-Douglas is a wonderful comedian.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 28/10/2020 21:16

Re France, at least schools are open in their new lockdown and they will allow care home visits. I have family there and they have been expecting it. They've stocked up, but obviously while in lockdown 1 it was glorious weather and they could spend it pottering in their (frankly huge) garden, its going to be harder in a rainy, wintery lockdown.

Might try to schedule in some more video calls with them this weekend.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 28/10/2020 21:19

Also was supposed to be seeing PIL tomorrow, except FIL has a stomach bug or food poisoning. They live in the next town over so not a massive drive, but definitely need to allow best part of the day to see them, think we do need to see them this week or next, not convinced we'll get much beyond weekend of 6/7th without locking down or the whole country going tier 3.

MercyBooth · 28/10/2020 21:32

I hope Piers Morgan is including the people who cooked and brought him his takeaways in the first lockdown.

Had news tonight through police grapevine that 9th November we will still be restricted travel wise, fingers crossed it is county wise rather than 5 mile limit.

Just read this whole thread and have found my folk. Can't be tucked with this nonsense any more. Filling in a form to go a run? Gtf. The whole thing is a nonsense. I want to go dancing. Who's coming?

Onlyherefortheconspiracies · 28/10/2020 22:25

Argh fucked, obviously
