(Socially distanced of course and in strictest obedience of all localised lockdowns and 3 or 5 tiers and whatever illogic the powers that be can dream up next)

Quiet day so far here. Took the cat to the vet this morning, now £130 down. Made chocolate spooky brownies this afternoon.
And ...at last...the library is reopening! Only for click and collect, but it feels like a big step forward.

On the negative side, DB (admiral of the dementor fleet) has decided that we can't visit mum in her house as planned because , you know, Covid.
She has swallowed this whole as expected.
Tried the approach of rule of six, tier one, we have a lower rate here than they do, social distancing etc.
No joy.

Even though they're a bubble he still keeps two metres away. She's said she really misses hugging him.
It breaks me up.
I'm seriously considering cancelling our visit and sending their presents by courier. Really don't need this now.
Will have to think about it for a few days.
Hugs to everyone struggling out there.

MercyBooth · 28/10/2020 15:24

Jesus they are wanging on about Tier 3 for everyone by mid December. Sad Angry

And the comments on GMBs twitter feed saying its not the Governments fault, its all the fault of the public.

However Christmas Day is trending on Twitter and im seeing a lot of "get to fuck" type replies.

I hope that commisioners record on attending burglaries and domestic abuse crimes rape etc is fucking exemplary because it will need to be.

DrDiva · 28/10/2020 15:26

@Orangeblossom7777 so sorry about your FIL Flowers

The thing about not knowing people outside MN who want a full lockdown? You don’t know my DH... he’d be thrilled. Yeah, cos he doesn’t have to deal with the schooling and emotional load and house load, and actually his work got easier while mine got shittier.

And breathe! Just having a rubbish day. It was nice to play ping pong with DS in the hall though - we both cheated outrageously!

CruCru · 28/10/2020 15:30

I'm sorry to hear about your FIL, Orangeblossom777.

MercyBooth · 28/10/2020 15:39

@starfish88 TOTALLY agree.

ISaySteadyOn · 28/10/2020 15:58

Just found out an old friend is a total Dementor. We quarrelled and made it up sort of. But then, she's back in the States where being AD is to be a member of the alt right, it is so politicised. Sigh.

AcornAutumn · 28/10/2020 16:16

I think being AD is politicised here.

I should watch the Lord Sumption lecture but the length is full on!

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 28/10/2020 16:17
Hi all, not been on here much lately but saw your post @NastyBlouse. Here's the video of the lecture he gave last night. Well worth a watch, especially the questions. I know it's 1hr 20 but I was gripped.
I feel this is really important for everyone to hear, regardless of whether they feel lockdowns and continuing restrictions are necessary or not.

The fact that police were ( I believe in God faith) upholding a law that did not exist in the beginning and continued to behave unlawfully until it was explained but the college of policing shows how little understanding they, as well as the general public have of how the law works. It's serious stuff.

I feel really angry at how we were misled from the beginning and it's no wonder the govt are losing the public's goodwill..

The one day of the year I’d be deeply grateful for PROPER lockdown is Christmas Day 😂😂😂

Hello all! I've been lurking for ages on these threads in this oasis of sanity.
Flowers to all of you with family members who are ill or in tricky situations.

I am wondering if I'm going mad - I could have sworn there was a website where you could see cases down to much smaller areas than your local authority (I think the areas were split into populations of about 7000 people).. but I can't find it anywhere now and I'm sure I didn't imagine it.
Does anyone know what I mean please?

TabbyStar · 28/10/2020 17:05

Hi ultra - welcome!

It should be here - they moved it a couple of weeks ago. I was looking at it earlier as we are now on it (well DD anyway)!

My town does a lovely Christmas meal for those who are skint or lonely - we make a boring room look all festive, cook an enormous meal and give everyone a goody bag to take home. It's done in a way that is as nice as possible, and everyone who volunteers (including me) gets nearly as much out of it as those who are guests. This year, of course, it can't take place, so the plan is to make up 100+ hampers and deliver them to households on Christmas morning, with deliverers prepared to stay for a safe chat. So, it'll solve the food need but not really the loneliness. I've volunteered to help pack the hampers, but not to deliver them, as I've not got the social skills to make light conversation on someone's doorstep. But that's made me think of all the Christmas meals and gatherings that won't take place this year, especially those targeted at the elderly and others who live alone, and the impact of that seems to be being overlooked at the moment.

My lovely but slightly OCD MIL has sent us some (homemade) face masks. DP has emailed to say thanks.
We do wear face masks when legally obliged to do so, just not outside in non crowded areas where it is utterly pointless.

I know how you feel @PinkSparklyPussyCat - DP keeps suggesting we get me an office chair or a screen to plug into my laptop that is giving me a sore back. But I'm refusing and going into the office twice a week as I don't want this to become normal'.

Robin just proves my policy of being Suspicious of anything with random Capitals.

Orangeblossom7777 · 28/10/2020 17:47

Orchidkiller the dentists receptionists agreed what what you are saying, I can go in tomorrow after all without getting the test back as part of this survey. It's just a one off for me thankfully.

Orangeblossom7777 · 28/10/2020 17:49

There seems to be some new 'plus' thing going on; Bristol is now in "1 plus' Nottingham in '3 plus'. Just to add more confusion. It's like the same one with a bit extra added on Confused

BogRollBOGOF · 28/10/2020 17:52

Went to a NT property yesterday in the pissing rain. That nasty drenching torrential drizzle that just gets blown into everything.

A lot of people (relatively speaking) were emerging from the toilets/ cafe and keeping their masks on to walk a few hundred metres to the car park.
Is it that they're happier with their warm soggy breath being recycled around their lower face compared to 10oC mizzly fresh air? Is it that they genuinely think that there is a virus control purpose in keeping it on outdoors in a space where there's no one else around within 50m?

The world really does bamboozle me at the moment.

Yep - we can't buy booze after 9pm and assorted other shit they've chucked in to pile on the misery. Hardly the easily understood and consistent banding across the country.
RobinHobb · 28/10/2020 18:03

Honestly I'm stumped too
This is what happens when you mix illiteracy with hypochondria. I've always thought we were a nation of hypochondriacs. I lived in developing countries during childhood due to my fathers job; malaria dengue fever typhoid all endemic, and never this angst.

Incidentally: according to PHE tuberculosis (also an airborne disease) now infects 20% of the borough of Newham in London. It's potentially very serious with AB resistance developing. It's a disease of poverty - a social disease the PHE called it - with 10% infected in tower hamlets (borough in London) . Where's the outrage for that? I guess they are bengalis and Pakistanis so it doesn't count.

Recycledblonde · 28/10/2020 18:06

We've had an email from work banning us from wearing cloth masks, we can only wear the surgical ones provided as the homemade/ shop bought fabric ones ones don't work. We're not in clinical settings but in an emergency control room and only wear masks when we are facing each other at less than 2 metres.
Why the fuck are the government advising the general public to wear 'face coverings' of any sort then if they don't work?

RobinHobb · 28/10/2020 18:16

Argh for the first time I'm angry.
It's the stupidity of it: how unnecessary it is and how the government is now so caught up in its own stupidity that they can't get out. I thought this was excellent but it made me more angry
