(Socially distanced of course and in strictest obedience of all localised lockdowns and 3 or 5 tiers and whatever illogic the powers that be can dream up next)

I like to reply that it's more selfish for me to trigger hyperventilating and end up deep breathing aerosol over a first aider than to not wear a mask and go about my business as normal.

Strangely on any Family at Christmas thread I've commented on, no one has yet picked me up on the fact that we could murder granny with flu or norovirus in any year and don't wring our hands over that. And that this year will be far lower risk due to the absence of Christmas parties and rammed school halls watching nativities through December.

Obviously the logical thing to prevent any festive grannycide is to never see an elderly relative between October and April ever again.

In a DM article this morning, it quietly drops the fact that there are currently double the number of flu/ pneumonia deaths to Covid.

I madly went and said yes to doing this covid study (that React one to see levels across the country in people) - so anyway did that and read after it can take up to a week for results

Then went and broke off part of my front tooth (look like a witch) and the dentists is asking are you waiting on a covid test? Yes, I am because of that study. Wish I had not bothered now. Although feel a bit bad as it says the dentists are being screened daily.

Hoping I get this result soon and get the tooth looked at as bit worried about it. They have booked me for tomorrow, but I need to update them by the end of the day as to this test. No word yet. Argh.

FIL has non covid pneumonia now, critically ill in hospital - he has his own room and on an IV drip.

WouldBeGood · 28/10/2020 10:21

@Reedwarbler

That's an interesting point by *@IheartNiles* about people on here being so far removed from people you know. I have not met a single person who is in favour of the lunacy that is so often proposed and looked forward to by some posters on here. Everyone I know, without exception, thinks the whole thing is totally crazy, ill thought out, etc. By the same token, they are abiding by all the rules and taking care of themselves and their families, but now it is all done with added resentment. So who are these fanatics on mumsnet? I really do think a lot of them are not genuine.
Me neither. Even people who were pretty full in at the start are now saying it’s nuts.

Pretty much like us here, doing the right thing but with resentment.

The ridiculously “Covid will leap off Halloween sweets” stuff up here has really pissed people off and lots are ignoring.

DominaShantotto · 28/10/2020 10:32

Still no word on Nottingham.

I have the hairdressers booked tomorrow - quite fancied changing back to purple streaks through my hair as well (currently peroxide blonde and hot pink streaks - well if I don't have placements I may as well fuck around with my hair).

countrygirl99 · 28/10/2020 10:50

@Orangeblossom7777 I hope things improve for your dad. We were in that place a couple of weeks ago and it's shit

Thanks. Odd family are relieved it's not covid, but he's really poorly (has underlying conditions).Delirious and has sepsis now. I guess it is a relief knowing no-one has passed it on.

Got an email from the survey test place saying may take 7-10 days, reliant on the Royal Mail Hmm in the 'current circumstances'. Really wishing had not participated in that now.

Also it is hailstoning here. Might henna my hair.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 28/10/2020 12:32

Hugs @Orangeblossom7777 and Thanks

It is not just odd it's not rational. His future doesn't depend on what caused it. He is just as much as risk from it whatever caused it. And whether it is viral or bacterial he still caught something somewhere.
I really hope he gets better if his health was good before. It's shit that he can't have visitors and that is down to stupid mismanagement rather than any virus that is just doing what a virus does.

Re the t&t - if they can send you an email saying that why can't they send an email with the result. Fucking snail mail is used for naff all now, why for this. They are guaranteeing people will become more and more pissed off and less and less willing to engage.

wanderings · 28/10/2020 12:39

@AcornAutumn Part of the problem is that SAGE themselves said how amazed they were by the compliance, so I know I think there’s a drive to see how far government can control.

This is precisely why I think we should be resisting FURIOUSLY. Governments all over the world (especially ours) have seized this opportunity to find out how much they can control the public. Sadly, the first lockdown set a blueprint from the public being extremely docile, terrified by the spin, and ready to bow to the virus, and to Saint Boris. Whenever I read about protests (even if the BBC has a blackout on this), and the Welsh public petitioning against the madness, I find it cheering. We need there to be any kind of backlash there can be against the government; otherwise we'll be in a Cromwellian/Orwellian regime by stealth.

The public tide is turning, but far too slowly. We should have stood up to the brainwashing, and resisted early. The government have worked hard on one thing: keeping the spin machine well-oiled.

NastyBlouse · 28/10/2020 12:49

Interesting thing in the Guardian about a former British supreme court justice talking about how the government employed 'cavalier use of coercive powers' to scare people into compliance.

Of course it vanished from the Graun front page almost as fast as it appeared, to be replaced by some nice juicy dementoring about national lockdowns and some boggartry about aerosols.

NastyBlouse · 28/10/2020 12:51

Flowers Brew and maybe even some Gin @Orangeblossom7777 and anyone else finding themselves wading through deeper shit than usual today.

Hi all, not been on here much lately but saw your post @NastyBlouse. Here's the video of the lecture he gave last night. Well worth a watch, especially the questions. I know it's 1hr 20 but I was gripped.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/10/2020 13:46

I'm on a meh day.
Tier 2 confirmed as coming at the weekend. I don't think it makes any difference to my existence. Family was all tier 2 anyway. It's the rule of six that fucks us over.

Kids' bickering escalated to tier 3 earlier... the stage where DS1 stands in the kitchen and screams and shouts that DS2 is hitting him. DS2 was stood next to me in a bedroom. I congratulated DS2 on his ability to hit his brother from a different part of the house without me noticing. DS1 did not appreciate the lot of us laughing at him being ridiculous, and when he's in that mood, it works better than telling him off anyway.

DS1 has form for trying to stitch DS2 up... his finest moment was faking a nasty bite...

  1. DS2 has never been a biter unlike DS1
  2. DS2 had a full set of teeth unlike DS1 who was missing a couple of inscisors just like the bite mark Grin

It's days like these when I kind of miss teaching lovely civilised teenagers Wink

Thank you @BogRollBOGOF and @ISaySteadyOn, I feel braver knowing you and others here are behind me so to speak 💐. I have been out gardening and avoided the news so feeling brighter.

My DD thought it was a proportionate response to have police questioning train passengers and supermarkets closing off “non-essential” items, the whole world seems to have gone mad! This thread seems like an oasis of sanity.

Orangeblossom7777 · 28/10/2020 14:07

He's allowed visitors in the hospital you just have to book in at a certain time. I was quite surprised at that. (FIL) has got lots of underlying problems, so not sure how will get on. (lung conditions mainly) poor old thing. Thanks for the Flowers hugs to anyone else having a rubbish day.

On the good side DCs have done a bit of homework and listening to spooky ghost story thing on the radio.

BooksAreNotEssentialInWales · 28/10/2020 14:25

@Evenstar I’m in Cardiff and 100% agree. It’s gone way too far now.

justasking111 · 28/10/2020 14:47

Going nuts now on local FB group about the survey saying 38% will defy government to enjoy xmas day. Frothing about killing grannies. Never grandad I noted. Well I realise we are granny and grandad our parents have passed on I am not worried about it so why are folk frothing on my behalf?

MercyBooth · 28/10/2020 14:52

@Reedwarbler Unfortunately i know two people who will do everything the Gov says without question no matter how nonsensical and will always blame other members of the public and punch down instead of up. And yes they would report. One is a neighbour and one is an old school "friend" who is on my fb.

Someone on BBC News who has just brought up the suicide stats due to lockdown has been referred to as a Covid denier.

ISaySteadyOn · 28/10/2020 14:56

Sad Lovely. How supportive of the BBC Hmm.

I sometimes want to ask the Dementors if they would comply if they were told to stick their fingers up their nose and hop on one foot.

Questions being asked about why we are in tier 2

Essex Covid: The Essex town in a Tier 2 lockdown despite being in lowest 5% for infection rates
The infection rate for every Essex town has been revealed according to the latest government data.
One Essex town sits in the bottom five percent of English local authorities for infection rates - but remains under Tier Two restrcitions.

Braintree currently sits in the bottom 20 local authorities for infection rates in the whole of the country.

The data released by the government shows the rolling seven-day rate of new cases of Covid-19 in every local authority area in England.

The figures, which look at the seven days up to October 23, are based on tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community.

While Blackburn with Darwen has the highest rate in England, with 1,176 new cases recorded in seven days, Braintree has only recorded 78 cases in the same period.

Braintree's infection rate has been recorded as 51.1 cases per 100,000, making it one of the towns with the lowest infection rates across England.

On the other end of the spectrum, the local authority of Thurrock has recorded the highest number of new cases in the county over the same seven days, with 287 people testing positive - the equivalent of 164.6 cases per 100,000 people.

Brentwood just tips Thurrock in terms of the highest rate of infection with 170.1 cases of coronavirus every 100,000 people.

While areas like Thurrock remain in Tier One, Braintree is under Tier Two restrictions as it sits in the Essex County Council region

The list of cases and infection rates for every Essex town are listed below.

From left to right, it reads the name of local authority, the rate of new cases in the seven days to October 23, number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to October 23, the rate of new cases in the seven days to October 16 and number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to October 16.

Braintree - 51.1 (78), 56.4 (86)

Brentwood - 170.1 (131), 92.2 (71)

Basildon - 148.5 (278), 106.3 (199)

Castle Point - 139.4 (126), 97.4 (88)

Chelmsford - 108.2 (193), 72.9 (130)

Colchester - 122.2 (238), 100.2 (195)

Epping Forest - 135.9 (179), 94.2 (124)

Harlow - 85.0 (74), 68.9 (60)

Maldon - 64.7 (42), 52.4 (34)

Rochford - 79.0 (69), 67.5 (59)

Southend-on-Sea - 87.9 (161), 69.9 (128)

Thurrock - 164.6 (287), 111.8 (195)

Uttlesford - 76.7 (70), 78.9 (72)

The thing that amazes me that no one has noticed outside of the ADs here is that the government had the chance to expand hospital capacity before winter, knowing that the NHS struggles every winter, and they didn't because they know the public are so compliant its easier to lock down than to spend on the NHS. A friend who is a doctor agrees and says that while Captain Tom is fantastic the NHS shouldn't be funded by elderly men walking laps of their garden. I know the Ds point out we aren't like Sweden but partly that's because they have a decently funded health service. But if we don't kick off it's easier for the government to lock us up forever to save spending on anything!

I'm so angry for the UK but as an expat I'm actually secretly hoping we get an air corridor back to the UK in time for Christmas...there are lots of rumors.

MercyBooth · 28/10/2020 15:08

@Orangeblossom7777 Sorry to hear about your FIL Flowers

TheOrchidKiller · 28/10/2020 15:21

Tier 3 for all of Notts from Saturday. Which is not great. But buys us 2 extra days in tier 2, as we were meant to go into it from midnight in selected areas. 'Cos covid can wait.

No logic.

@Orangeblossom7777
I'm sorry about your FIL.
As for your test results, I do weekly tests for research purposes & don't tell people if they ask if I 'm waiting for results (unless its the research people asking) as it just panics some people. I think as long as I'm asymptomatic I'm carrying on.
Test results come back at different speeds- it was within 24 hours when I started this back in June. The longest wait was 6 days, & it's 3-4 days now.

Sometimes I think about giving it up. There is a bit of stress, knowing that if I get a positive result we've all got to stay indoors. There'd be nothing wrong in you withdrawing from the study if you wanted to.
