(Socially distanced of course and in strictest obedience of all localised lockdowns and 3 or 5 tiers and whatever illogic the powers that be can dream up next)
This is completely random but I'm a big fan of Rammstein and the government's approach to Covid reminds me of their Benzin music video. They're firefighters who are called out to rescue a man trapped(possibly suicidal) on a high rise building. While driving to rescue this one individual they destroy the whole town, sending trains flying, crashing into whole buildings and wiping out everything and everyone in their path with the truck. In the end it's all for naught because the net rips just as the man jumps onto it.
I thought of Benzin, too. One of my favourite tracks.

Right now, we're okish, in a town between Leicester and Nottingham, and desperately hoping we remain in Tier 1. We actually had a small spike after Leicester first went into lockdown, plenty of people saying they had seen people they knew who live in Leicester breaking their lockdown and coming to our town.

I have a cousin desperate to see her mum, who is in failing health in a care home. Sadly, I don't think my aunt will last into next year, so I'm so, so sad for her, and my cousin. I think we should be finding ways of allowing visits, even if it means the use of PPE. It just strikes me as so inhumane.

Thought you lot might enjoy this one- the envy towards the Welsh from this Guardian writer...em...OK Confused

"As a Welsh person on the other side of the border, I can’t help but feel a bit jealous of my loved ones still living there. It must be nice to have a government you trust, which collaborates with other parties and with the public, and communicates through clear, carefully considered announcements.."

Interesting, as I think they seem mad, and it must be terrifying to live there. Fascinating to see how people can see things so differently. Does she really think this 2 weeks will made a difference? Well. time will tell I suppose.

Orangeblossom7777 · 27/10/2020 14:20

"Covid-19 has given Wales a glimpse of what self-determination and autonomy could look like, and it’s inspiring"

Right!

justasking111 · 27/10/2020 14:23

England watching this big social experiment. Remember the home office years ago telling our N Wales mullah to suggest legalising all drugs sold on licence to depress the market all to see how the public would respond. They got their answer it was NO

justasking111 · 27/10/2020 14:25

Our education minister Kirsty Thompson is not standing again. Shame she fought so hard for the welsh children, fighting neurotics, unions. A liberal democrat who was principled and bloody cared.

Interesting to know what the lib gems think of all this. We tend to hear the others

She was respected by all parties I have just been told. Very sad but I really do not blame her.

Can I join you please? I am fed up of the hysteria on other threads and you lot seem a sensible bunch! Tier 3 here, not breaking any rules but getting on with what we are able to do and not hiding out in the house all day (apart from my poor reception child who is just finishing up his 14 days of isolation - on day 12)

ISaySteadyOn · 27/10/2020 15:33

Welcome! Will reiterate my Stardew Valley recommendation as a sweet gentle alternative to Minecraft for smalls and larges if you're stuck in Smile.

Wales Air Ambulance are closing 5 charity shops permanently. They're absolutely vital to healthcare in Wales and the reason one of my friends is alive today. I thought we were meant to be protecting healthcare, not demolishing their funding sources. Or does it not count if they're a charity, not the NHS?

flower11 · 27/10/2020 15:40

Welcome to new people.
Vintage mum I hope you have support and people you can talk to in RL .
Rainy start to half term here. Made gingerbread this morning and had tomato soup for lunch, then got round to getting dressed!
Just dropped dd at friends for a play date while they still can, they are in the same class anyway.

Ive just seen the new Costa Christmas drinks. They are doing a Quality Street Purple One Latte.

But its not worth going in there to get caught in Track and Trace.

Dowser · 27/10/2020 15:57

@Vintagelovingmum
I just want to say I’m so sorry for the hell you are going through
Your dh really needs some help outside of the family doesn’t he?
There’s no way he should be in such a high power position while he feels like this and there’s no way he should be verbally lashing out at you and his family.

While he’s using alcohol as a crutch he is never going to be his real self.

He sounds seriously depressed and you are having to carry too much of a burden.
I’m pretty sure if you were to talk to him he would lash out at you like a wounded animal.

Is there anyone else that can, as you can’t fix him only he can.

It’s awful walking on egg shells. My exh has an unpredictable nature and it’s exhausting.

Sending you a big virtual hug

MercyBooth · 27/10/2020 15:59

Do you have to do T&T for takeaway coffee, I’m guessing no?
Justgivemewine · 27/10/2020 16:02

@Vintagelovingmum. Have some unmumsnetty {{hugs}}
I went through similar with dh many many years ago. So sorry I haven’t got any pearls of wisdom though. He wouldn’t seek help and turned to alcohol too. I can’t remember what the turning point was but after living and walking on eggshells for what seemed forever and feeling guilty that I wasn’t able to make him better, we got through it. If he won’t seek help there is only so much you can do but most importantly it is NOT your fault, any of it. Flowers

MercyBooth · 27/10/2020 16:09

Some of them wont even let ppl in without the app. Having said that i havent tried our local one.

ISaySteadyOn · 27/10/2020 16:11

@Vintagelovingmum, Flowers. It is very hard, and we are all here for you and on your side.

Vintagelovingmum · 27/10/2020 17:04

Thank you so much everybody, like you say dowser he just keeps lashing out when I try and explain he needs help. Fil is going to give him a call later hopefully to convince him to talk to somebody qualified even if it means he can just talk at them and get his feelings out. Seriously thank you to all of you for being there when I've been at my worst! You really are all the best bunch of people I've met, otherwise I would have felt so alone these past 8 months Flowers

Controversial opinion here...

The purple ones in Quality Street are awful.

I've just bought some frosted mint syrup to make minty hot chocolates with frothed milk from the coffee machine. They're dead nice when I can be bothered to make one - but I just tend to chain drink fruit tea now to try to keep my caffeine levels down in the hope it helps the anxiety.

Previously fairly dementor friend who agreed to disagree with me and we changed the subject is now just so utterly fucked off with it all anyway.

ISaySteadyOn · 27/10/2020 17:43

I think that might be good news.

I just played 2 games of Cluedo with DD1 and DS. So much fun ☺.

But I miss being alone in the house with nobody stomping or crunching or quarrelling. Anyone else?

MercyBooth · 27/10/2020 17:50

@DominaShantotto YY Neither Quality Street or Roses taste as good as they used to. DH and i arent bothering with them this year , Hes happy with mint Matchmakers and Jaffa Cakes.

I like some of the Beanies Coffee flavours. Went to Lidl last week and stocked up..

TheOrchidKiller · 27/10/2020 17:56

@Vintagelovingmum
Been in your shoes. It's horrible, I know. Make sure you keep in touch with friends the best you can at the moment.

Quality Street went downhill when they removed the chocolate cracknell in about 1980-something. In fact, I am always very disappointed with Christmas chocolates now. They look better than they taste.
