(Socially distanced of course and in strictest obedience of all localised lockdowns and 3 or 5 tiers and whatever illogic the powers that be can dream up next)

@Vintagelovingmum
I do hope fil can make some inroads with your dh.
Maybe man to man he might get him to listen and take action.

I’m happily married to the loveliest of men Because his first wife drank herself to death in just a couple of years too.

He still finds it very painful to talk about the hell he went through, not that we want to talk about it ..,we don’t .
Just sometimes something crops up on the tv and he gets triggered.

I barely drink so he’s got no worries there.
Just a very small g and t and I’m light headed

Maybe , if you think the time is right, show him these replies. It might help him to see what he’s putting you through

I'm afraid I don't have anything useful to add, but just wanted Thanks for @Vintagelovingmum

Leader of local council is in talks about restricting the sale of alcohol in supermarkets when we go to tier 3. His rationale is to prevent house parties because the bars will be shut.

Sigh.

I predict a rise in Speakeasy establishments & Amazon delivery of home brew kits. Can you buy alcohol in supermarkets in Wales?

This is screwing with my brain.

He sounds thick as fuck!
TheOrchidKiller · 27/10/2020 19:28

(By the way, I'm not in favour of illegal behaviour, should anyone be loitering here. Just finding the different rules so convoluted, & also wondering if he has ever been to a house party without alcohol, because it is possible & even enjoyable.
Why stop at banning alcohol sales? Why not restrict the sale of everything that might be a reason for people from different households to meet indoors?)

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 27/10/2020 19:29

But people in tier 2 can only go to bars with their household? So how does he figure closing the bars is going to make people any more likely to have gatherings at home than already?

TheOrchidKiller · 27/10/2020 19:36

@TrustTheGeneGenie
Thank you, I'm not going mad after all. Other people think this is silly too.
I get it that people drink alcohol & lose their inhibitions so might be tempted to mix. But by that logic perhaps the Police should come round to confiscate my large stock of teabags, just in case I have a PG Tips & decide to invite a knit & natter group into the garden?
(They won't come anyway, we're far too law-abiding).

TheOrchidKiller · 27/10/2020 19:44

@SufferingFromLongLockdown
I know.

I think he's saying that if you've been out for a meal & had alcohol with it you might then be tempted to buy a few cans or bottles from Tesco Express on the way home & ring your mates to come over. I can sort of see that point.
BUT what's to stop you from sitting at home & deciding to throw an impromptu party anyway, with or without booze that you may or may not have in?

Should we ban anything that could be turned into a Pass the Parcel, just in case some parents decide to hold a birthday party for their kids?

MercyBooth · 27/10/2020 19:48

Its so ridiculous i dont know whether to laugh or cry.

TheOrchidKiller · 27/10/2020 19:52

What's pissed me off is that I was looking at a local "things to do" website that has a local newsfeed. I only wanted to know if there was something outdoors, free, Hallow'eeny & legal on this weekend, & every bloody article is about covid cases & restrictions.
If there's a time to sit indoors with my household, nursing some supermarket plonk, it's now!

SirSamuelVimes · 27/10/2020 20:07

Gold medal for performing safety goes to the swimming pool tonight. Temp check on the way in - apparently I am 29.6 degrees c. Pointed out to the chap on the door that this means I'm probably dead but was just waved through.

SirSamuelVimes · 27/10/2020 20:09

Gah, hit post by mistake.

Anyway, given that hypothermia sets in below 35, either I am a zombie (I don't feel more murderous than usual) or their equipment is faulty. But hey, I don't have a high temperature so all is well!

BooksAreNotEssentialInWales · 27/10/2020 20:20

Hi all, name change from Wales being slightly saner as we've gone completely the other way, although our kind leaders are now allowing us to ask permission to buy items that are deemed non-essential. Everything I've seen happening on the ground suggests the WG have lost the support of the people. Lots of quiet rebellion, the roads are quieter but by no means dead like last time. I think essentials nonsense has just pushed people the other way as it's obvious that it's the most vulnerable who are most impacted by this policy. Can you imagine finding the courage to leave your abuser with only the money in your purse and having to ask the staff for permission to buy basics for you and your family? That's Labour Wales and it makes me so sad as I've almost always voted for them. The Tories are the only ones standing up to them so in May I'll be casting my vote for them for the first time ever. I wonder how many others will do the same?

Yep I saw that one too - my reading of it was the Govt seem to be wanting everywhere to stop selling booze before 10pm - but I've just ordered another box of wine just in case.

Apparently they were keen to stop hairdressers here as well - just to make it a bit more than the other tier 3s... think that one got prevented (better bloody have since mine is booked on Thursday!)

I'm feeling very low today to be honest - no focus for uni work or anything much really. No anxiety though - perhaps the medication's finally working there - just feeling really fucked off and fed up.

JamieLeeCurtains · 27/10/2020 20:23

I have a Mr Sneeze thermometer that frequently tells me I've carked it in the Siberia tundra and I really must replace it.

JamieLeeCurtains · 27/10/2020 20:28

I think restrictions on the sale of alcohol are dangerous. People who are dependent can't just stop drinking - they'll go into shock and either take up a hospital bed or die.

Others will just be bloody furious.

The black market and therefore crime will flourish.

MercyBooth · 27/10/2020 20:30

@DominaShantotto I had my roots done and a trim last Thursday. i hope yours goes ahead Flowers

Re Three Bellends T shirt. Would love one as well as one with Terry Thomas on it that says You Absolute Shower! Grin

JamieLeeCurtains · 27/10/2020 20:34

Imagine being a woman or girl who has to ask a male shop worker if you can please buy a pack of knickers, for personal reasons? Or a man/boy having to ask a female shop worker for personal items.

TheOrchidKiller · 27/10/2020 20:34

They'd better fucking not!

I have definitely not just googled said council leader to see what his hair is like, he has probably little need to visit a barber, I am very sad, it's the lack of social interaction, I think

I'm sorry today has been hard. Working at home all the time doesn't help.

DominaShantotto · 27/10/2020 20:39

Still no statement on what our restrictions are actually going to be - and they start after midnight tomorrow going into Thursday.

And people find this level of uncertainty and the continual medium level stress it puts people under to be acceptable?!

TheOrchidKiller · 27/10/2020 20:41

"I think restrictions on the sale of alcohol are dangerous. People who are dependent can't just stop drinking - they'll go into shock and either take up a hospital bed or die."
Yep. I think this was a reason why they were allowed to sell it in lockdown, so I hope some sense prevails.

When I was young & had to buy sanitary towels etc I actively avoided checkouts with male sales assistants. Self-service checkouts didn't exist. I don't care now but I think it's mortifying for some people.

TheOrchidKiller · 27/10/2020 20:48

On a positive note, people were talking at work about how they were going to do Hallow'een with their kids, all within the restriction rules, but also all determined to have as much of a nice time as possible.

Should probably get a pumpkin tomorrow. It's purely for us at home to look at. If I leave it too late they might ban the sale of those too incase the sight of one incites a gathering of witches in the front garden.
