Dd won't put earrings back in

Dd got her earring stuck in her ear a few weeks ago, was out & sorted etc. She absolutley loves having her earrings in, however she now has the fear about putting them in as she thinks it's going to be sore. She's crying that she wants them in, then won't let me do it as she's too scared, she can't get them in herself as she can't find the hole properly. Any tips on what I could do to make her less scared? Or do I just tell her we need to let them close up? Thanks

If she really wants them in, but is just a bit scared it will be sore, can you put them in when she's asleep?

Get some germoline out a bit on your finger and dip the end/stem in before putting them in.

Make sure part of her bedtime routine is to check they're free moving & free of infection/muck.

Hercwasonaroll · 23/10/2020 19:45

Clearly she isn't old enough to have had them done because she can't deal with them now.

Not parent of the year. Putting unnecessary holes in a 6 year old has led to this.

Notgoingonholiday · 23/10/2020 19:45

But you asked if you should let them close up too, which lots of people have said you should, and just added their reason why....

Yep this happened me when I was 12, I couldn't find a tiny teddy bear earring, searched high and low. A few days later ear started paining. Off to the eye and ear to get it removed. It wasnt massively traumatic but I cant remember the last time I wore earrings. I was just put off if you know what I mean Funnily they never closed up. It's why i havent encouraged my 10 year old get them (yet).

Just leave it for a while, she may come round

Mxflamingnoravera · 23/10/2020 19:47

Hinged hoops is what I had when I had mine done 40 years ago, everyone had them. I still have them, they are comfortable, safe and cheap.

StatementKnickers · 23/10/2020 19:54

You should never have let her get them pierced. She's not old enough to cope. Say no more about it, put the earrings away and let them close up. Tell her she can have them redone when she's 10 or something.

underneaththeash · 23/10/2020 20:09

OP - she’s 6. Leave her alone until she’s old enough to cope with them. She’s a person not a doll.

ancientgran · 23/10/2020 20:11

I think you need to ask yourself if it is worth her being upset and frightened. So yes you are her mother but that comes with responsibility so to me it isn't about if I like little girls having pierced ears or not it is about a little girl being upset about something that she doesn't need to be upset about.

BananaPop2020 · 23/10/2020 20:11

She is obviously too young for this, and that’s being honest rather than judgemental.

christinarossetti19 · 23/10/2020 20:12

The holes may have well pretty much closed up by now, if she hasn't had earrings in for a few weeks, I'm afraid.

My dd was a few years older than that when she took her earrings out for the day after they'd been pierced for about four months.

The hole hasd started to close in a few hours. I re-pierced it with the earring having iced it, but I wouldn't have been able to get the point few even the next day I think.

CrappleUmble · 23/10/2020 20:14

She doesn't appear ready, so I'd let them close up.

Mine will not have hers done until she can manage them herself. She clearly can't. They can get so infected.

My view - and you're entitled to your own clearly is that ear rings on young kids is really tacky.

My DD is 7 BTW and her and her mates prance about with stickers on their ears.

speakout · 23/10/2020 20:17

just doesn't want to physically put them in lol x

LOL- you think that is funny?

I am restraining my words .

You want to push pieces of metal into someones' body- not that that was fine to begin with- and now they refuse you think you have the right to do that????

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 23/10/2020 20:19

Her age is relevant as she's obviously too young to cope with them and it's so unfair to cause her pain for something like this.

RedMarauder · 23/10/2020 20:19

^This

I had hoops in as a child under 10 and rarely took them out.

lovealwayswins · 23/10/2020 20:21

My children do not have their ears pierced for the record.
But I know at school and gymnastics you aren't allowed to wear hoops however small, just studs.

Skibideebapbapbap · 23/10/2020 20:23

6!?

Honeyroar · 23/10/2020 20:23

It doesn’t take a perfect parent to read this thread and understand exactly why 6 is too young for pierced ears though..

tiredybear · 23/10/2020 20:24

just a quick thing - I had a problem with the hoops as they were thinner than normal stud earrings, so it was quite painful to transition when i got older.

Summerfreeze · 23/10/2020 20:24

Well that’s why you don’t pierce holes in six year olds to hang decorations from.

EttaKett · 23/10/2020 20:26

Six?

Your DD likes playing at wearing earrings, OP. She doesn't need or want to have her ears pierced.

Let them grow over. She can play now, and decide about piercings when she's old enough to do so.

tiredybear · 23/10/2020 20:26

Piercings are often cultural. I live in Spain and 99% of girls have pierced ears as babies. It doesn't appear to cause problems and they can always remove them when they are older, so what's the harm?
Let's be a bit less judgy, eh?

S111n20 · 23/10/2020 20:29

@StormsDontLastForever

Thanks to those for their actual advice 😁 which I asked for.

To those who are too judgemental, get a life. She's my child and my decisions, if I wanted opinions on whether she should have her ears pierced or not I would have asked that 👍🏼 parents of the year on here sometimes 😂 not everyone is perfect!

Well said !! Can you do it when she’s asleep maybe ? Or try make it in to a game, she comes to your piercing shop ect. My niece won’t allow her mum to change her earrings but will let me... could somebody else do it ?
Beautiful3 · 23/10/2020 20:30

Similar happened to my daughter. Ended up buying small gold hoops that are hinged instead of the butterfly clips. They are so much more comfortable and easy to take in and out.
