Tell me something small that makes your life better

I go to the library every Tuesday and Friday, without fail. I bring my macbook and study books and earphones, and it really helps me focus, more so than I can at home, and so I get a lot more work done. Plus, I get to eat lunch in the café Smile. It helps break up the week (I'm at college Monday, Wednesday and Thursday), and makes it seem a bit more full.

What do you do?

OP posts:
dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 22/10/2020 00:51

My morning and afternoon latte.

quelquechose · 22/10/2020 00:51

Fresh flowers, tea made from tea leaves in the teapot, my electric blanket, my dog asleep with his head on my lap Smile

Being outdoors - walking, running, cycling or swimming. I’m lucky enough to live in countryside that allows me to do this easily.

FollowYourOwnNorthStar · 22/10/2020 06:32

A little bunch of flowers beside my bed and my chair in my sitting room every week or so (sweet peas are just following now in Australia - they smell so divine!)

Fresh linen on my bed.

Looking around a room and seeing it decorated, clean, tidy and clutter free always makes me happy.

Growing things in the garden. I’m not really a gardener, but I have found watching tomatoes grow, or sunflowers opening or even the Corsican mint stretch over the ground makes me happy after a long day at work.

Opening my front door. I bought a house last year, and I still am delighted when I get home every day. I love my house. I love that I am no longer renting. I love that I am no longer looking every Saturday for a house to buy! I love everything about it :)

Decluttering my house and making sure I only have what is used or that I love. It’s a fair bit of work, but the glow I get from having it done lasts every time I look at that area/room.

Getting lost in a good book.

Swimming in the ocean - diving below a wave and resurfacing in the clear water on the other side.

Ben Platt singing show tunes.
My dog snuggling up in bed with me, head on my shoulder.
DH spoiling me every night and his strong, clean smelling bear hugs.

FippertyGibbett · 22/10/2020 06:47

Getting into bed every night knowing that the day is done and I can completely relax.
The cool cotton on my skin that warms up to be cosy.
Sometimes I actually laugh out loud because it feels so good.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 22/10/2020 07:04

Well my 6 year old is pretty small - does he count?
Actually his happy face (and his big brother) when I take them to Greggs and we have sausage rolls and doughnuts.
My ancient old cat. Arrived aged twoish and wasn't a lap cat, hated being picked up.
Now she meows for my lap and I have to pick her up as she can't jump properly any more. Then I end up with a delightful furry cuddle with a purring cat who is so happy she's dribbling.

MinnieMountain · 22/10/2020 07:05

Cycling for my transport. It helps keep me fit and gets me out in the fresh air.

Coffee.

Sherry. I’m drinking it again thanks to watching Poldark.

CutCopyPastedLikeYou · 22/10/2020 07:19

Crochet. It gives me a focus and can be challenging and involved or simple and rhythmic depending on what I'm making.

Then the joy of the finished article - I make blankets which I can either display, snuggle under or gift. Joy!

What a nice thread!

Builders tea. That full bodied taste - slightly sour and a hint of sweetness.

Doggie cuddles.

My child’s hot little face when she kisses me.

Early walks in silence.

Twilightstarbright · 22/10/2020 07:27

The delicious french press coffee I have in silence, watching the sun come up.

That first breath of fresh air through the window in the morning

sashh · 22/10/2020 07:35

Wildlife.

I live on a big council estate and get a thrill from seeing foxes, hedgehogs and occasionally unidentified brown furry things.

MachoSavsge · 22/10/2020 07:51

My morning poo!

Sound ridiculous, but I get up about 45 mins before everyone just so I can have a hot cup of coffee (proper bean to cup coffee) and go to the loo in peace before my (very loud) dc and dh wake up. I then have a really hot shower and that’s me set for the day!

Honestly, that 45 mins is the only peace and quiet I get in a day, so I savour it!

Hotwaterbottlelove · 22/10/2020 07:58

What a lovely thread. It has encouraged me to find little things I love. My first cup of tea in the morning is pretty special. I also live near a field that houses a white horse, I call her my unicorn. Oh and close buy live some alpacas. The babies make my heart soar.

Hotwaterbottlelove · 22/10/2020 08:01

Oh, my ultimate is the smell of my husband. It just sends me into this place that is a mixture of safety and pride.

noideaatallreally · 22/10/2020 08:09

Walking - I am very lucky to live in a most spectacular part of the world.
Getting into bed for the first time after the sheets have been changed - the smell and texture.
Reading for fun.
Watching nature - the birds, squirrels, seals (when we are lucky.)
Talking to my daughter, my mum, my sister on the phone - especially now when we cannot physically visit them.
The sound of the post coming through the letterbox when the post man is especially early and I am in bed.
Watching Bakeoff, Sewing Bee, Throwdown - any programme really when people are being creative.
Opening the foil on a new jar of coffee.

lazylinguist · 22/10/2020 08:12

Lovely loose leaf tea of various kinds from my local independent tea/coffee seller.

Knitting and crochetimg with lovely yarn.

GiraffeNecked · 22/10/2020 08:14

The little leap our cockerpoo does as she runs after a ball. Every time. It warms my cockles.

80sShoulderPads · 22/10/2020 08:16

@Hotwaterbottlelove you're so right - the smell of my DH is exactly that, pride and safety. Like home.

We're gonna have some people fetching up their breakfast for sure.

joystir59 · 22/10/2020 08:17

Cappuccino down near the beach

MaudesMum · 22/10/2020 08:18

Heated towel rail. Meaning a warm towel after my morning shower throughout the year. Well, you did say something small.

mocha78 · 22/10/2020 08:19

Walking my daughter to and from school-chatting to her, nature (love seeing the seasons change and lots of squirrels spotted too), saying hello to all the dog walkers about. My daughter loves dogs and there’s a husky dog that looks out of his window most days at people walking by who we always wave and say hello to, makes us both happy when we see him. Also watching her go into school after so long off, I always hang about to have the pleasure of seeing her go in even though she’s year 6 now and most parents drop and run!

Overfifty · 22/10/2020 08:22

Sunshine on a winter's day

Iwouldratherbemuckingout · 22/10/2020 08:36

It’s got to be kissing my horse’s nose. And getting kissed back. Just breathing her in having a quiet moment together. Brings such inner peace and contentment
