The best hot chocolate

I would like to know what hot chocolate you drink at home. My favourite is Costa hot chocolate, but unfortunately I cannot make it at home, and they don’t seem to make any pods for a tassimo machine to help my craving.
What do you recommend?
Oh and I probably should mention I don’t like the instant Cadbury hot chocolate. The galaxy one is okay but doesn’t compare to Costa. Thank you.

Green and Blacks is tasty!

Mominatrix · 19/10/2020 14:52

I melt Valrhona chocolate and add warm milk. That is the best hot chocolate.

Cadbury’s hot chocolate powder and proper milk. Can’t beat it. Any instant hot chocolate powder needs putting in the bin.

rashalert · 19/10/2020 15:05

Second Green and Blacks made with full fat milk.

Frownette · 19/10/2020 15:16

Similar to @Mominatrix, quality chocolate melted and whisked with hot milk.

Haven't tried Valrhona chocolate though.

Options (the mint one) is my favourite.
With copious quantities of whipped cream... Blush

Another vote for Green and Blacks here.

Clipper fair trade

Easy - Green & Blacks. Although I should mention I find all hot chocolate too rich, I make it with mostly water, & about an inch of milk.

More effort - a decent 80-90% chocolate, such as Lindt, grated & melted into half hot milk & half boiling water. I grate it when I'm bored, ready for use.

DH & DD like the Galaxy instant stuff... with marshmallows Hmm I feel I'm the odd one out somehow.

Ellapaella · 19/10/2020 16:20

Cadbury's - not the instant one that you make with water but the powder that you put in hot milk.

rollonoctober · 19/10/2020 18:51

Hotel Chocolat salted caramel one, it's sooooo good!

Charbonnel and Walker ❤️

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 19/10/2020 19:03

The Cadbury one. Not the instant one, the one where you add milk. Hotel Chocolat dark chilli is divine as well.

Changeisneeded · 19/10/2020 19:15

Aldi do an amazing one

Bettys

StormyLovesOdd · 19/10/2020 19:17

All the instant hot chocolates taste artificial (to me)

You can't beat Cadbury's unsweetened cocoa powder. Heat up your (full fat) milk add a teaspoon of cocoa powder and sugar to taste and mix until it's all dissolved.... delicious and even better with a good glug of Baileys and some whipped cream on top

PompomDahlia · 19/10/2020 19:18

Green and Blacks here too, really rich

HelloAutumn · 19/10/2020 19:18

Whittards of Chelsea is my personal favourite - even flavour I’ve tried is amazing - but be careful as some flavours have a high cocoa content and taste more like dark chocolate Smile

maverickallthetime · 19/10/2020 19:19

Clipper hot chocolate is delicious

TwoZeroTwoZero · 19/10/2020 19:22

I don't remember who made it or where I got it from but it was shavings of real dark and milk chocolate that you melt into hot milk. If you do a half/half mix of milk and single cream it's more rich and luxurious.

Hot chocolate made in the slow cooker with milk, cream and chocolate chips is also delicious.

NoNameIdeas · 19/10/2020 19:26

Hotel chocolat salted caramel or white vanilla...in fact any of theirs, they are all amazing!

blue25 · 19/10/2020 19:27

Hotel Chocolat hazelnut flavour, made in their velvetiser. Delicious.
