For me it’s blinds. Any kind. I flip them round the wrong way, send them sailing across the window when I’m trying to let light in, I break the beads, I get the strings knotted.

I’ve also tried to learn to knit 4 times and haven’t ever got beyond a few knotted rows with huge holes in.

I can knit for England. Can't dance at all, hate weddings and parties.
Can't stack the dishwasher "Properly".
Make brownies.
Walk in heels, in fact the whole skirt, tights, heels, dressing up thing.
Navigating, have terrible sense of direction.

Socialising

Front crawl
Whistling
Clicking my fingers
Making my hair look nice
Eyeliner

Swimming, lessons as a kid, adult lessons, I just can’t grasp it and sink like a stone.

Knitting socks. I'm still having flashbacks. I bought the lovely wool in three shades (optimistic), I bought the double pointed needles and stitch markers, which I have survived without in forty plus years of knitting - and I CANNOT knit the feckers. I am stubborn, I keep trying. I even got as far as turning the heel once, but I kept losing stitches left, right and centre. I finally gave up after my 8 year old said 'Exactly how many times are you going to rip out those socks?' Sigh. Sorry for the rant. I hate anything to beat me.

Being on time sadly

spookmeout · 17/10/2020 00:26

Whistling would be really helpful since we got a dog but I just can't do it

LomasLongstrider · 17/10/2020 00:34

Flirting. I have no idea where to start. I can recognise when someone's flirting with me, (but can't do it myself), but struggle with working out of it's banter, just a bit of fun type flirting, or someone is trying to show they're genuinely interested in me type flirting. I also sometimes feel like men who "flirt" with me are taking the piss out of me a bit sometimes? (Like lads who wolf whistle at old ladies, then laugh when they turn around to look..?).

It all makes me feel really awkward, and like I want to run and hide.

I can't make a pass at someone new either (I'm terrified of being rejected). If the guy doesn't try it on, it'll never ever happen. If I'm drunk enough, I can throw myself at someone new (about as subtle as a sledgehammer), but I don't drink much these days (because I throw myself at random men and shit, it's like another personality takes over). Sober I can just about initiate kissing etc when I'm in a relationship with someone, but even then I'm not one for making the first move.

I'm going to be single forever aren't I? Blush

@Offtothedogs

Juggling, flirting, and making Yorkshire puddings.
😂
LomasLongstrider · 17/10/2020 00:41

*I forgot to add because more men seem to wait for the woman to initiate these days, as they don't want to be seen as a creep, and they can fear rejection etc too. Online dating and the bar/ club scene is different, but I cba with either these days.

Languages! I'm desperate to learn Italian because of Italian family - I've done classes, online, watched films etc etc. Im fine whilst I'm doing it (best was during furlough as I was doing an hour a day of Babel) but 2 weeks later and I can barely remember how to count to ten. I learnt French from the age of 3 through to yr9, parent sought me French puzzle books etc now I can't even order a croissant in a bakery. Studied German to GCSE and nothing. Got a Latin GCSE (A) and within a year I couldn't remember a thing! It really upsets me.*

It's very much 'use it or lose it' with languages. If you don't keep doing some at least every week you will forget. I'm a linguist and find language learpretty easy, but I still get rusty without regular practice.

Im fine whilst I'm doing it (best was during furlough as I was doing an hour a day of Babel)

Exactly- the answer is that you can never stop doing it!

@whatsthepointinwasps

Spelling reciept .....:or receipt as it should be. No matter how many times I write it I never know which is correct. I only know it’s wrong if I see the red line underneath text. I just can’t remember which is which.
Try saying,

‘Eeee, I didn’t think it’d be that much’

Kernowgal · 17/10/2020 09:04

Adding eggs to creamed butter and sugar when baking without the mixture splitting - nope. I've tried adding in tiny amounts, adding a spoon of flour - nope. Prefer recipes that tell you to chuck it all in together and whizz it up.

Kernowgal · 17/10/2020 09:06

Also mental arithmetic. Not a chance, especially if someone is waiting for me to do the maths.

CherryPavlova · 17/10/2020 09:14

Cartwheels.
I can still do handstands, headstands, the crab, touch my hands flat on ground etc but never managed a straight leg cartwheel.

Oliversmumsarmy · 17/10/2020 09:24

Cooking, knitting, sewing, interior design. I have got over these by not sewing or knitting anything, ready meals or dp or dc doing anything more complicated and living in a house that has the bare minimum in. I don’t have a picture, vision or an ornament anywhere.

merryhouse · 18/10/2020 13:28

Shoes with heels. (I can manage an inch or so, so long as it's quite a chunky one and my foot is entirely contained; otherwise forget it)

Sparring. I'm a second dan for fucks' sake, and can't even beat Maggie whose eyesight is worse than mine. (I think it might have something to do with the fact that in all the photos I'm the only person who's invariably bolt upright...)

When we were first introduced to long division in second-year juniors (Y4) I had no idea what was going on. Then I had an epiphany: we are making a guess! This was the first indication I had that the teaching of mathematics was not always optimal. Grin
