Do you have a hobby?

Looking for some inspiration here, and making a wishlist on the eve of stricter lockdowns for when this all is over.

So, what are your hobbies? What do you wish your hobbies could be?

I do. I like home decor and spend a lot of time reading magazines and changing our home (if that counts as a hobby)

Also took up Frenchic and I buy old pieces of furniture and upcycle

A took guitar lessons a few years ago also

AllTheCakes · 16/10/2020 14:44

I’ve literally just taken up paint pouring. Never been artistic or creative but I really enjoy it. Takes a bit of set up though, so can’t do it with the toddler around!

Northumberlandlass · 16/10/2020 14:49

Not an active hobby at the moment - mins was Am Dram (directing & on stage) and the choral singing.... I miss choral singing!

lazylinguist · 16/10/2020 14:53

Knitting, crocheting and learning a language (the latter is partly for work reasons, but I love it and would want to do it anyway).

Knitting/crocheting are perfect hobbies imo:
Creative but do not require creative talent iyswim, portable, unobtrusive, can do at home, can be inexpensive but also opportunity to splurge on expensive stuff, endless new techniques to learn as you get better, produces useful, wearable things, ideal for making gifts, relaxing, can be done in front of the tv, a skill you can pass down to others (dc etc), keeps hands busy to help avoid snacking/smoking/boozing!

JoJoSM2 · 16/10/2020 18:46

These days it’s tennis, interior design and a bit of art (drawing, painting and sculpture). In the past, I trained a few different sports, studied languages and had a go at creative writing, gardening and played chess.

Unescorted · 16/10/2020 18:48

Making pop up books

JoJoSM2 · 16/10/2020 18:48

Posted too soon. In a lockdown situation and if you aren’t much of a pro, painting by numbers can be quite satisfying. Or learning holiday Spanish. Or doing couch to 5k or another exercise programme which can easily be access online and done on your own.

Bwlch · 16/10/2020 18:50

The "gym" and cooking.

I have loads of other pastimes that I dip in and out of as well.

CrochetBug · 16/10/2020 18:51

Crochet.
Cross stitch
Reading
Sewing
Planning to learn to knit and do more 'embroidery' rather than just cross stitch.

Mooey89 · 16/10/2020 18:52

I swim in the sea and drink too much gin. (Not at the sane time)

DownToTheSeaAgain · 16/10/2020 19:02

Volunteering for stuff.

Dowser · 16/10/2020 19:32

@AllTheCakes
I love paint pour
Done loads but had to stop nowhere else to put them

Dowser · 16/10/2020 19:33

Dowsing.
Been doing it 8 years

Dowser · 16/10/2020 19:35

@Qwom
I did archery 4 decades ago
Despite getting all the gear
I was never really into it
Too chilly
So packed in after two years

redvest · 16/10/2020 19:56

Ice skating. The rinks are open still. Once you experience the 'glide' you never look back

MrsExpo · 16/10/2020 20:41

Photography. I love it. I don’t mean taking random snap shots on my phone. (Nothing wrong with that .....) I mean using a proper camera, going to places specifically to take pictures, really thinking about the images I take and creating something of artistic merit ... it’s endlessly fascinating (to me, anyway ......)

purrswhileheeats · 16/10/2020 20:56

Oh I love the paint pouring videos! Blush

I did go to the gym but an instructor got tested positive so that's the end of that for now anyway. I live near the sea which is still really warm... no excuses!

MeOldBamboo · 16/10/2020 21:26

Another am drammer and singer here. It’s doing my head in as I have no outlet at the moment.

hellisotherpeopleandhorlicks · 16/10/2020 21:28

BrigitsBigKnickers · 16/10/2020 21:30

Sailing
Playing instruments/ arranging ensemble music
Choir

Malachite234 · 16/10/2020 21:32

Horses and the gym. I read too, but I’m not sure I’d call it a hobby just an alternative to the TV!

BeBraveAndBeKind · 16/10/2020 21:41

Knitting, crochet and sewing. Just started English pieced paper patchwork which is a great pick up/put down hobby that can be stored away quite easily (while you're working on the individual pieces anyway).

Fruitinator · 16/10/2020 21:42

Cooking, baking & sugar craft.
Gym, running & tennis
French language lessons/practice - anything French related - history, architecture, geography, cuisine & wine. I spend an embarrassing amount of time watching french stuff on YouTube.
Reading.

Together DP and I are both really into wine- reading up about it, pairing with food, vintages, regions, tasting notes etc etc. We don't actually drink much, but what we do drink will be geeked up about.

I also do Motorbike racing stuff with DP, but really that's his hobby I join in with, I secretly love a bit of MotoGP though #35.
