How much can you hear your neighbours?

Right hand side -
Hairdryer
Plugs being plugged in
Occasional arguments
Teenage daughter who takes every opportunity to sing very loudly, and not well.

Left hand side -
Heart radio from 8.30am EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. The muffled bass of a DJ talking shit is driving me insane
Children who class screaming as a hobby
Mum who classes loud Facetimes as a hobby. General loud everything. I think she actually wants everyone to hear her inane chat.

(I'm also very aware that they can probably hear us but we're generally quite boring and quiet).

Mid terrace here but the builder of my house insulated the entire terrace so you can hear nothing from either side, absolutely nothing unless the windows are open.

One side we hear go up and downstairs, closing cupboards in the kitchen, light switch in the bedroom, toddler crying in the night, occasionally we hear them talking if they're in their hallway. They're amazingly quiet compared to the last lot living there.

Other side we hear their relative laughing and dog barking when they're visiting, have heard them argue a handful of times.

We hear virtually nothing from either side. One side is an elderly lady who's frequently visited by her 12 (!) adult children and their families, irrespective of lockdown restrictions. The other side is a family with two (quiet) preteen DC. I think both sides hear us though, specifically our 10mo DS suealing/squawking/singing 😬

Ex-council house so our walls are very thick, can't hear either side most of the time, unless they've had a few drinks and the music creeps up, that's very rare. Oh and there's an absolute riot every day when the other side gets home from work and his three tiny dogs all go nuts. Fag smoke does wander through on one side every now and again but not enough to make us avoid certain rooms etc.

Had to sell up & move as it began to make me unwell. I had absolutely no peace day or night.
I avoided going home, spending times in my own home it was so so bad.
Once I moved house, it took me about 12 months to settle, every sound I heard my teeth & nerves weren’t on edge,
My new house is just gloriously quiet though, I love it.

Neighbour 1, nothing. Literally nothing. I'm not sure if she actually still lives there.

Neighbour 2. Occasionally hear the kids arguing/ being told off/ playing the recorder.

I’ve never lived in a terrace but once visited someone whose neighbour played the drums regularly.

Terraced flat (upper)

Right side - nothing apart from her pulling her revycling bin out at 6am.
Left side - nothing
Below - every fucking thing. Dogs. Arguments. Tv. Phonecalls. Singing. They work odd hours too so it's always as we go to sleep.

Right hand side- only when they go up or down the stairs. They both work out of the home and no children so silent during the day. Stair movement about 7:30-8:00am and then in the evening.

Left hand side- single man. Small children visit in the school holidays. EXTREMELY noisy. Banging, jumping, screaming, dad shouting, kids crying, doors slamming. Goes on until gone midnight. When his Dc aren’t there he plays loud music and shouts at his TV/computer a few times a week until 1/3/5am. Bangs and slams things. Sometimes has friends over and fights with them.

My old house I could hear the teaspoon stirring a cup of tea (I’m not joking!)

It was an old 1850s house, don’t let anyone tell you old houses always have thick walls!

Our houses are were all hastily built after the blitz, I don't think soundproofing was too high on their agenda.

Left hand side kid currently screaming and kicking our wall.

Nothing, on one side is a old chap who doesn't make a peep. I pop round every now and again just to check he's OK as I can't hear him most of the time. The other side has been empty for a few years now because the landlord hasn't got a tennant.

Only very loud arguments and smoke alarms nothing else. Got me thinking now tho that we are probably the noisy ones!

Georgian terrace, and they were good at walls back then!

We can hear most things.

If it's daytime we don't hear as much, but I can hear next door left switching their understairs light on, and we can hear next door right when they hqve sex.

So I'm pretty sure they can heae us when I'm yelling at dd.

Mid terrace. Both sides elderly and retired. Right has health issues so hear electronic machine sounds like blood pressure check, coughing and very faint TV. Left zero zip absolutely nothing. Sometimes I have to look through her window to check she's alive.

Talking, sometimes, and a lot of laughter. It's rather lovely.

Side next to our living room we can hear everything and they once shouted shhhhh when my toddler was being loud at 6pm, he’s in bed at 7 every night! 😱😰 can hear them coughing and opening beer cans, also talking but not what they are saying. We are much louder but they don’t have any children. Right side lovely couple stairs next to ours and we never hear them. Got a funny feeling about the left side, bad bad vibes can’t put my finger on it

One side elderly couple in bad health. Carers and family constantly popping in. Very argumentative man who seems to shout a lot and cause arguments with everyone. Feel sorry for the lady. They listen to songs of praise type music a lot. Loudly.

Other side middle aged couple. Never hear anything except the light switch in the bedroom at night

I worry they hear my dog having the odd bark.

Mid terrace too. One side can hear dogs barking occasionally and when I’m in the bathroom I can teak if they’re in theirs. Other side can hear tv/ computer in bedroom. All reasonable though

Not alot really, we seem to be quite well soundproofed.

Ours are quite well soundproofed.

RHS never hear current couple. Previous couple could only hear if they had a dinner party, and even then it wasn't too noticeable.

LHS occasionally hear them coming down the stairs, or if they have television in their spare room which backs onto my bedroom.

I suspect we are the loud ones as we're the only ones with DC, and the (retired) neighbours are clearly all too polite to complain. We do ask, but they all say they can't hear anything (even the multiple musical instruments).

Left - the blender. They must do a juice diet or something, it’s going all hours! In my kitchen I can occasionally hear them chatting.

Right - the landline phone, and occasional arguing.

Never heard anything from anybody upstairs. I think we are very lucky, we have nice quiet neighbours. I did worry my baby might wake them but my right hand neighbour said she’s never heard anything. Thank goodness for thick Victorian walls!

One side is an old woman, we hear her singing sometimes and if anyone’s over, them chatting. When her grandson lived there we were treated to fifa booming through the walls till after 2am most days but she evicted him.

The other side is a family with a teenager and young child. We hear their music every now and then, it’s usually only one song or their dog barking.
Both sides have said they hear me shouting. Obviously they are in cahoots as I would never shout.....
