Marvellous. The new window cleaner is... odd.

He cleaned my windows for the first time today after doing my neighbour's and knocking on the off-chance. The Spidey senses started tingling a bit when I politely pointed out to him that he'd left his stepladder up in the middle of the road and cars were having to stop and wait to go past it. He'd done it on purpose apparently - something about ladders on top of his van? Confused

Then he started texting me this evening. It started off normally and then got a bit strange. He wanted to message me pretending it was time for him to come back again, 'to build his confidence'. I thought he had a new automated reminder message system he wanted to use but no, it was just him sending a text. Then he wanted to try it again.

This guy has my address and my phone number and it's only me and the kids at home. I'm a bit freaked out. Any ideas?

@DeliciouslyFemale

I’m so sorry for any men with LD who have to navigate the world and try to live independently, reading some of these replies.
I feel sorry for women, who statistically have reason to fear stalking, rape or even the odd murder. Not someone wanting to "practice texts" on women he barely knows.

OP, tell him you've decided to sell all your windows so sadly no longer require window cleaning services or just tell him a friend has offered and you have to cancel but all the very best ... and BLOCK.

@CleanQueen123

What is it with these men?

I had an electrician out a few months ago, sent by the property management company, so I have no choice about who is sent out.

He came twice, I made the usual polite small talk you do, the second time I was WFH so barely spoke to him.

Weeks later I get three texts in the middle of the night telling me he'd love to take me out. Oh, and please don't tell his boss he's text me Hmm

I said I had a DP and politely declined.

It's scary that he sussed there's no man around and obviously thought I was fair game.

Jeez that’s totally out of order! They are such predators. I feel angry on behalf of young women who have to deal with this sort of sh*t. I’m glad I’m old now!

You know it is capable of having empathy for both, especially as the mother of three adult children with various disabilities and a women who spent most of her childhood being abused and raped in adulthood. You don’t have to just believe one thing.

If you bother your arse reading the rest of my comments, later in the thread, you’ll see that I told the OP that her safety was the most important thing.

Iwanttobeagranny · 15/10/2020 20:01

Oh god this is making me cry. My son has a LD and I could so see him doing this kind of thing. Sometimes I’m pleased that no one has given him an opportunity to work because I know it won’t end well.

Aww Ive worked with young people who would be like this. He's probably starting out and trying to get it right. Give him a chance, see how it goes in December. At least he's making an effort, the teased I'm dealing with at the moment need endless emails/texts before they think to answer it drives me nuts.

Trades not teased. And no I haven't read through whole thread just first post as I'm in between trying to get a bloody reply from an awol electricitian and a gardener who may have buried his phone🙄

Notenoughchocolateomg · 15/10/2020 20:15

As a mum of a child with ASD and learning difficulties I'd say he has one of these.

smilingontheinside · 15/10/2020 20:15

Patricia those young people will get older and still struggle. At least he was concerned about doing a good job, many don't give a toss that's if they even turn up 😕

CleanQueen123 · 15/10/2020 20:20

@ilikemethewayiam it wasn't great! And because he works for the company the property management company use, if I need any electrical work done in the future it's highly likely they'll send him.

I live alone with DD who is three. The idea of having him in my home again doesn't fill me with joy.

Giganticshark · 15/10/2020 20:28

My ex window cleaner showed me a naked photo of his girlfriend (both in their 50's-60's) His wife had died the previous year and he was absolutely made up to have this lucky new lady Hmm.

He was a repulsive man.
He would knock on and chat whilst his lads cleaned the street's windows.... And try and get me to buy cheap cigs and wine. Delightful

He didn't give a toss about op repeatedly asking him to stop.
CleanQueen123 · 15/10/2020 20:32

@Giganticshark Shock I think I got off lightly!

Honestly though, why do men think that's an acceptable way to behave?

LunchBoxPolice · 15/10/2020 20:48

Well handled op.

Hells74 · 15/10/2020 20:56

@decoraters

I’m wondering if he has a learning disability?

I would say this. I work with someone who is autistic and this is the type of email or text he would send.

What the actual fuck Angry

Autism IS NOT A FUCKING LEARNING DISABILITY.

THIS!!

Let’s hope he’s not the only one on the books or he doesn’t work for them anymore! I would be nervous of seeing him again.

If I was to tell this example to some of the men I know, they would not understand the issue. They would say along the lines of ‘he was only asking her out, he fancied her, how else was he supposed to let her know, she should be flattered’! I don’t know how many times I’ve tried to explain the issues to them. A lot of men and even some women don’t ‘get it’. I sometimes feel we are banging our heads against the wall!

UglyBoy19 · 15/10/2020 20:56

2 possible scenarios 1) he’s having a laugh and winding you up 2) money laundering :; he’s using your replies as evidence for multiple bookings on his books

Yes, it is patently clear that you haven't bothered to read the whole thread.

Nor, in fact, have you deigned to read the OPs posts, which is quite easily done by clicking on the link in her OP. In fact, the OP herself has helpfully provided a screenshot of how to do this.

If you had bothered to do this maybe you would have been able to contribute something valuable. Instead you sound quite proud that you've only read the first post. 🙄

VanGoghsDog · 15/10/2020 21:53

Has anyone suggested he may have a learning disability yet?

Hmm
smilingontheinside · 15/10/2020 22:58

Ancora (or should that read anaconda🤔) not proud just stating facts. I have a busy, stressful life and whilst trying to wrangle a divorce, house move, a job, wayward tradesmen and a sick animal I took 5 mins to chill and look at mn. As I explained after my first post I had not read the whole thread nothing proud about explaining that. You though obviously have nothing better to do than nitpick an explanation and from that explanation know how I'm feeling? You have no idea and folk like you are probably the reason many don't t even bother to post on MN for fear of nasty impatient holier than though comments. If I wasn't of the generation that was taught not to use really bad language in public I could write some well chosen words to describe how you must be feeling about yourself. Now you will probably reply with how I want everyone to feel sorry for me, but just stating facts so that you know that I'm feeling lots of things, proud to have not read a whole thread isn't one of them though you sanctimonious prat.

Carriecakes80 · 15/10/2020 23:05

My nephews both have LD and like some others have said, they are really going to struggle with nasty folk like some of the folk in here, laughing behind their backs as they try to survive in a brutal world.
Honestly, those who laughed at those messages and thought they were 'scary', maybe you have learning difficulties too...
How sad to be so terribly judgemental.
