Cats. As they are so popular on here (usually), can I please ask...

...is it possible for girl cats to be pretty and boy cats to be handsome ? Or are cats just cats, regardless of any positive facial features ? My Mum used to describe females as 'pretty pussycats' which I found to be a bit twee, in the nicest possible wayWink. I don't know what she thought of tom cats.

I've never heard the toebean colour theory, however both of my black cats are female with black toebeans- very boopable.

@Trinacham oh my goodness they are beautiful! Those eyes!
@WFHWF the floof! My DB has a gorgeous long haired cat and I can't resist planting my face in her tummy fluff.

In answer to the OP, I think either sex can be pretty or handsome, gorgeous, beautiful, derpy and anything in between. Of my 2 almost identical girls one is 'cute' and still kitten-like at 8 and the other has grown into a grand old dame.

If it's black cats you're after how about these two ?

Brother and Sister ......but who's who ? ]wink]

I saw that cat on FB. The most magnificent and majestic cat I've ever seen! Apparently a main coon, well I work with cats and have never seen a main coon like that. I do wonder if he's some sort of hybrid? Whatever he is he's most certainly handsome and I want him!

My fluffy boy has a pretty face but he is broad and has quite a thick neck you can see he is a tom cat (he looks like a cat who hasn’t had the chop)

My old cat had a very pretty face and delicate features she had tiny dainty little front paws too

Girl on the left ?

Ah , Horse that's the little boy . He is shy compared to his sister , she is the one with the WTAF look about her Grin and the curled tail

Here you are OP! Give the quiz a go and then you can decide for yourself whether girls are pretty and boys, handsome!

I think it's fair to say that, with some cat breeds, it's fairly easy to tell Mr and Mrs apart, regardless of how handsome or pretty we perceive them to be. I've seen a picture of a male and female Blue English Shorthair side by side. The male was stocky with a big fat head but the female was slender and delicate with a comparatively small head. Labelling wasn't necessary!

Slightly off-thread but the cat called Tom I mentioned a few posts back potentially had exotic ancestry. He was a tiger tabby (I think) but two different vets who saw him independently for different reasons both commented on the dark fur spots, not stripes, on his belly and both vets suggested an Abyssinian bloodline could be responsible. I've little doubt it's possible given the vast moggy melting pot we have but, as cat genetics and coat patterns are ludicrously complicated, I shall say no more.
Except that all domestic cats carry the tabby gene; some of our black heroes on here today will give themselves away in bright sunlight Smile.

Genuine, your cat reminds me of Demis Rousoss who was every inch a man.

@WildRosie

Trina, I've never seen such bright blue eyes on a cat. Are they wearing contact lenses?
They are Ragdolls, a blue-eyed breed :)

My birman boy has bright blue eyes. He's very pretty, very dainty. He has perfect socks and knows he is a Prince amongst cats. Grin

Trinacham · 13/10/2020 21:04
@Trinacham - girls? Beautiful cats. ♥️♥️

@TroysMammy, a very pretty boy indeed! 🙂

@IHateCoronavirus - I adore Torties. I have one and she's our second tortie. Both quite feisty and full of 'Tortietude'. 😆

@WildRosie, I think Tim definitely looks like a boy in that pic.

@Bargebill19, I can really only see one of the cats clearly but she is very girly looking. 🙂
They are both boys actually Grin

Yes, the ruff always gives the raggies away, doesn’t it. Ours is called Havelock, after my favourite tyrant Grin

One of my cats was known by all the neighbours as Pretty Face. They refused to accept he was a boy. I think he got fed up with it cause he lost nearly all of his fur and now, well, he won't be called Pretty Face again. He is rather odd looking, with a spiky Mohican style haircut and wrinkly skin. Bless him.

TheOrchidKiller · 13/10/2020 21:46

Especially loving the upside-down cat pics.

Here is mine being upside-down in the summer. (He's still asleep now).

I think this picture of a very unsure pussycat is quite well known. I'd say female - she looks very like a neighbouring moggie called Molly.
