Help me???

My mums cousin ... his children are my what?

AgeLikeWine · 12/10/2020 22:13

Cricket stats & trivia. If I went on Mastermind, my specialist subject would be The Ashes, and I would do very well. I am such a saddo....

ReeseWitherfork · 12/10/2020 22:17

@yawnsvillex

Your mums cousin is your first cousin once removed and his children are your second cousins.

First cousins share a grandparent
Second cousins share a great grandparent
“First cousin once removed” refers to the children of your first cousin
“First cousin twice removed” refers to the grandchildren of your first cousin
“Second cousin once removed” refers to the child of your second cousin
“Second cousin twice removed” refers to the grandchildren of your second cousin

Absolute nonsense.

Does that make any sense / is it helpful?

turquoise50 · 12/10/2020 22:21

@yawnsvillex They're your second cousins. The way to work it out is to count back to your common ancestor and to add one to the number of 'great-'s of that person. So you and your mum's cousin's children will share a great-grandparent (or presumably two), because your grandparents will have been siblings. So one 'great' + 1 = second cousin. One generation further back, share a great-great-grandparent? Two 'greats' + 1 = third cousin.

If you're one generation away from the cousin in question, in other words they are the children of a cousin or the children of a second or third cousin, then it's x cousin once removed. Grandchildren of the cousin = x cousin twice removed. This works in both directions so they are the same relation to you as you are to them.

My superpower is that I know all the words to all the verses of pretty much every Christmas carol. Except In the Bleak Midwinter because I hate it.

badg3r · 12/10/2020 22:35

I know all of the second verse and rap in wannabe.

yawnsvillex · 12/10/2020 22:39

@ReeseWitherfork love it!! Thank you

yawnsvillex · 12/10/2020 22:40

@turquoise50 thank you!! Makes perfect sense

HeronLanyon · 12/10/2020 22:41

I’m also an exceptionally good whistler. Never whistle. May go somewhere very remote and try it out to see if I still have it.

DramaAlpaca · 12/10/2020 22:44

I'm a whizz at shorthand. Sadly a skill that is pretty much obsolete now.

Riv12345 · 12/10/2020 22:52

I can pretend to be interested when hubby tells me about his day at work

LemonChiffon · 12/10/2020 23:43

I know how to tell the difference between an uncooked egg and a hardboiled egg if they were ever to get mixed up (which they never have so far in my life but I am poised with the method in case they ever are)

buckeejit · 12/10/2020 23:47

@luckyduckydooda I can sing the books of the Old Testament. It was my party trick at uni 🤣

frankie001 · 12/10/2020 23:49

Can do an illusion where it looks like I’m levitating a few inches off the floor.

SEE123 · 13/10/2020 00:02

@hotcrosswhat I'll look it up! Though I quite the travesty of always having a couple missing. Like the one episode of Friends 😂😂😂
Occasionally I make up a few too 😂😂

P.S:

Nebraska
New England
North Carolina
New Hampshire
New York
New Jersey
North Dakota

West Virginia
Wyoming
Wisconsin

(Sorry - can't help it - stupid game!!)

SEE123 · 13/10/2020 00:05

@GwenCooper81 please describe in detail how you do covered the writing with the hands and feet thing😬😬😬 absolute gold!

SEE123 · 13/10/2020 00:05

Discovered* 🤦🏽‍♀️

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 13/10/2020 00:07

I have an amazing memory for faces, absolutely useless paired with the inability to remember a name.

VeggieSausageRoll · 13/10/2020 00:19

I can read document A, whilst typing about subject B, and having a conversation about topic C.

Years of high pressure receptionist multitasking.

ANoTail · 13/10/2020 00:25

I can recite all 50 US states in alphabetical order in under 30 seconds. I do not live in the US and, so far, it has not been especially useful.
I'll remember a lot of trivial stuff about people that they mention in passing. It means that if I spend any time with a friend's family member, I can come away knowing more than my friend does about them. This just seems to annoy people.

iklboo · 13/10/2020 00:27

@YesPleaseMary - chameleonism. Also me.

Anordinarymum · 13/10/2020 00:29

I can launch an empty shampoo bottle over the top of my shower and get it in the bin at the other side of the bathroom every time. Nobody else knows this except my grandson who has seen me in action

ANoTail · 13/10/2020 00:33

I can also do the Hail Mary and Our Father in Latin. Again, pretty useless. The only people who ever want to hear it are those who expect you to know it so I have so far impressed 0 people.

Utini · 13/10/2020 00:37

I know pi to about 50 decimal places.

CoolYourBeansMySon · 13/10/2020 00:38

I can hear whether the water poured from a kettle is hot or not. Surprisingly useless since once it's poured it's too late to reboil if it's not going to be hot enough to make tea.

ManxiousCat · 13/10/2020 00:40

I can remember every car number plate and every phone number of every car and phone I've ever had over the past 50 yrs ..
