What is the strangest thing you’ve seen someone get annoyed about on here?

I was reminded yesterday of a poster who was furious about people including the county in postal addresses.
I’ve also had a thread where posters are angry with me for not having a bin in my bathroom.
Then there was the poster who said that women who put their bras on in a certain fashion will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.

Something are worth getting cross about but what is the most inconsequential thing you’ve seen posters getting angry about?

Believe me, the pigeons where I live are in no danger of starving to death, the fat bastards.

Same here, there’s more chance of them and the ducks exploding from the amount they get fed.

I thought a flat was called a flat because it was all on the flat, ie there were no stairs in it.

So did I. Flats are all on the flat.

Anyone remember the one where a woman asked if people thought what she was giving her college aged son for lunch was average for an older teen? She explained in her OP that he had learning difficulties and I think was non verbal, and would just eat what was given to him, regardless of how much/little it was and wasn’t able to tell you if he was full or still hungry. All explained much clearer than I have, in her OP. Almost every single poster ripped her to shreds for not forcing him to make his own sandwiches, her future DIL will hate her for raising such an incompetent man etc etc. She responded a million times over that her DS would never be capable of making a sandwich, far less living an independent life and if he ever got a girlfriend she would be so delighted she would make both of their sandwiches for the rest of her life, but still people kept jumping on her for making the packed lunch!

I remember that one! The OP was so patient and kindly kept pointing it out. "Tell him to make his own sandwiches" was the equivalent of "STOP THE CHEQUE!"

@VinylDetective and @notafanoftheman Thanks for your support - our local pigeons seem to be in minimal danger of starving or freezing. Toddlers' breadsticks and other snacks are often swiped.

Me too. Is that not the case, then?!

A friend of mine once criticised my apartment, so I knocked her flat Grin

Lots of posters who think that landlords have the right to access properties without their tenant's permission. They don't...UNLESS there's a water or gas leak or a fire.

froggygoneacourting · 16/10/2020 01:24

Flat doesn't refer to being "on the flat." It comes from the Old English word Flett, which means dwelling. A flat is a single self-contained dwelling within a larger building containing numerous self-contained dwellings.

The etymology and variety of words used to describe such residences is fascinating.

I don't think there's really a word specifically to describe a multi-floor dwelling that exists within a large building like a tower block that contains many dwellings.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 16/10/2020 01:34

@froggygoneacourting Best i can come up with is a duplex or a triplex, but I don't think there's a word for four floors within the same building. Although, if you have four floors, you probably also have a separate entrance, in which case it would be a maisonette.

Spiderbaby8 · 16/10/2020 01:44

People who claim they can tell really specific things about others hygiene like if someone has showered the evening before or the morning, or have worn an item of clothing twice and say they get migraines from fabric conditioner and can smell a scented sanitary towel from 2 offices away. Nobody likes unhygienic people, but I've never seen people get so angry about everyday smells.

Flaxmeadow · 16/10/2020 02:01

I remember one of the early covid discussions, when many posters were still calling it "the flu". Even during lockdown they were still in denial

Some posters suggested that it wasn't necessary to go to the corner shop everyday for milk and the whole thread erupted with hysterical angry posters protesting that if they couldn't buy their favourite chocolate, nail varnish, scented candles, the list was extensive, or be able to browse in any shop everyday, they would literally have a breakdown over it. Their anxiety over not being able to go into a shop everyday and purchase was pitiful really.

I hope they manage to get over the trauma of that thread someday and move on but, going by the anger aimed at possible retail closures and so for them the horrors of a shopping cold turkey, I'm not so sure

That is really interesting, thank you for that.

Does a maisonette have to have its external door?

That's the definition I've always understood

Round our way the pigeons are so fat I think a bit of encouragement to exercise may be the responsible thing to do Grin

The “I can tell if someone hasn’t washed their vagina vulva by the smell left behind in the toilet” ones! So passionate. It’s a toilet, there are going to be various whiffs.
DiscoMoo · 16/10/2020 08:53

I hate kids chasing pigeons because invariably it makes the birds fly at me and I hate the flappy little fuckers.

I get headaches from fabric softener but I suffer migranes in general

I litrally dont care if someone showers or not, I dont even think showering everyday is neccasery (I certainly dont wash my hair everyday and if im busy skip days) and think clothes can be worn more than once (especially jeans and bras etc...) someone personal body odor weather clean or not has never set off a reaction only really strong fabric softeners or some purfums (and petrol fumes do the same) I think its something in the chemicals used

I am a big recycler and will by 2nd hand items online but I hate when they come wash in a really stong fabric softener because ill have a headache all day after opening it

mam0918 · 16/10/2020 11:47

angelcakebananabrain

I have kidney damage from a childhood illness and as a result my pee smells insane (like strong amonia) I wonder what the hell they must think of my vulva then lol

Itsonlymakebelieve · 16/10/2020 13:04

I live in another variation of flat an upper villa flat.
One large house divided up, communal entrance door then own stairs up to first floor and the flat is on the 1st and 2nd floor and has stairs.

Bluntness100 · 16/10/2020 15:59

Has someone mentioned the sink thread from yesterday, where someone posted an image of their perfectly normal black sink and asked if it went with the new kitchen, and someone rudely posted “that’s vile” 😂

allfurcoatnoknickers · 16/10/2020 16:29

@CarlottaValdez Yeah, maisonette has its own door. Otherwise it's a duplex or a triplex depending on the number of floors.

BoulangerieBabs · 16/10/2020 16:41

Another not to miss thread is 'is my dm an insufferable snob' whoever thought that me and a few others not separating the washing by colour was such a contentious subject!
