What is the strangest thing you’ve seen someone get annoyed about on here?

StanfordPines · 11/10/2020 08:15

I was reminded yesterday of a poster who was furious about people including the county in postal addresses.
I’ve also had a thread where posters are angry with me for not having a bin in my bathroom.
Then there was the poster who said that women who put their bras on in a certain fashion will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.

Something are worth getting cross about but what is the most inconsequential thing you’ve seen posters getting angry about?

@Soubriquet

I have been brought up always has county in addresses

Haven’t everyone?

So it would be

1 housey house
Streety street
Towny town
County count
Postcode

Careful with that kind of talk. You get @DappledThings all stressed with thing like that.

(I might have ramped up the level of frustration to make the OP more interesting)
Perfectly reasonable dramatic licence.

And I'm off....... Wink
Check out your address on Royal Mail's address finder. No county.
I'm:
House Name
Street Name
Village
TOWN
P0ST C0D3

(Yes I get a bit annoyed by the lack of accurate capitalisation too)

🤣🤣🤣 Happy to play along. I really do want to carry on my complicated cross stitch tonight but cheerfully arguing about addresses is much more fun.

Cocothefirst · 13/10/2020 22:23

There were a lot of threads where posters decided that people on furlough were having too much fun, and should 'just' become carers or even teachers for the duration.

Any mention of actual practical hurdles (training, DBS, health and safety etc) was met with cries of 'You're just looking for problems.'

Borgonzola · 13/10/2020 22:34

The absolutely hilarious thread where a woman's dog had dragged a deer leg into a neighbour's garden had some amazing responses. Half of the posters found it priceless and the others were all completely horrified, to the extent where some even tried to say that it wasn't 'natural' and that dogs shouldn't and wouldn't want to eat that kind of thing Grin

ChristmasinJune · 13/10/2020 22:48

The bagels and jam in school thread has baffled me.
Not so much the subject matter, I can appreciate the mild irritation of your child being offered something in school that you don't like them eating. Just the sheer volume of people commenting on the subject and getting really upset by it too!!
(You'd think we all had nothing better to do Grin)

chillicheesebuns · 13/10/2020 23:24

My address doesn't even have a street name in it. It's just
123 Cheese Building
London
Postcode.

You can write it longer but that's not necessary. It irrationally winds me up when people make my address longer than necessary.

Is that thread still going? I gave up with it. Was sorely tempted to volunteer that you may feed your kids only healthy snacks, but there will come a day when they turn into ravenous teens, & toast with jam becomes your friend.

Is this your way of telling us that you live in the cheese grater building? (Very fancy but not very subtle chillicheesebuns)
Vello · 14/10/2020 06:07

All that is necessary to write is the number and the postcode. Everything else is just kindness to the postie.

But we are constantly berated about obesity rates - this is the last thing children should be fed.

'The UK has one of the highest rates of childhood obesity in Europe. In 2018, around one in 10 children aged four to five were classified as obese, and around one in five children aged 10 to 11 were.'

Ah the thread where everyone should retrain your be a teacher on the job to reduce class sizes. Someone who works in HR could be an English teacher apparently. They could be supported by an existing teacher who therefore won’t be teaching their own class Hmm

It descended into teachers pointing out that teaching is not just subject knowledge and non-teachers saying all teachers think they’re all special when they’re not. A great read!

Don't know where it's up to now but it's popped up a few times on active threads with 600+ posts on it.

Don't forget about the jam, the jam apparently is a VERY important factor!
Untangled87 · 14/10/2020 08:06

This exchange (I googled the thread so these are direct quotes):

OP: "AIBU to be slightly annoyed that my husband’s barber, added him on Facebook and he accepted?"

Reply: "Why is he your husband's barber Hmm A member of bar staff sent me a friend request tonight. Is she my bar staff?"

I don't know why I even remember this exchange as it was like two years ago, but what a weird thing to be offended by Grin

Notverybright · 14/10/2020 08:19

Yes the let’s close the schools because of Covid, but put a bunch of kids together in the same place and teach them. The virus will only affect you if you’re actually qualified to do your job don’t you know?

LaMarschallin · 14/10/2020 08:31

BlueThursday

I once commented about the chore of shaving my legs and was near enough abused for shaving above the knee.

Firstly I wasn’t believed that I did such a thing as “nobody has hair above the knee” then I was told I was giving in to some anti feminist movement grin

When I first started shaving my legs my mother told me not to go above my knees: "You'll get thighs like hedgehogs".

I eventually worked out that:

  1. while a hair that's been cut and, hence, has a blunt top may look marginally thicker, I can just shave the little sod off again. I can shave my legs every day if I like! Ha ha!!*

  2. It's impossible for shaving hairs to make a hair follicle produce extra hairs, so I can't get more hairs on my legs by shaving.

I skipped around with my shaven shins and calves and my thighs au natural like bloody Mr Tumnus for a couple of years before I copped on.

*Obviously l wouldn't dare do this if my mother was alive...

CarlottaValdez · 14/10/2020 08:42

The leg shaving thing is very telling of how these angry exchanges start. There are lots of people who just don’t understand that not everybody is the same. I do not have to shave above the knee - I don’t really have any hair there but I do believe that other people might. 😮

Cocothefirst · 14/10/2020 08:42

I vaguely recall some people on her getting very exercised over people who didn't clap on a Thursday. We were all ungrateful nurse haters.

Plussizejumpsuit · 14/10/2020 08:53

This thread has cracked me up. As have the links to the threads discussed. The coffee and water one is great!

I don't know what the helium thing is about though? Can someone explain? It has given me lots of questions about where helium comes from though!

Soubriquet · 14/10/2020 08:56

Nikhedonia · 14/10/2020 08:57

I think the helium one was a poster mentioned getting helium balloons for DC's birthday and people were furious. Said that helium couldn't be replaced, we were running out and MRI (?) machines would cease to exist.

I'm not sure if all of it (or even some of it) is true. But I do think of that thread when I'm in a party shop and see someone getting helium balloons and imagine a MN'er coming in and unleashing hell in a party shop.

Harrysblondie · 14/10/2020 09:04

@Bluntness100

And yes the Covid ones got crazy, one woman was told she couldn’t walk her dog or kids in the empty field bordering her garden more than once a day as it broke the rules. No matter how many times she explained it was an empty field she was told by some posters, it was simply reckless and illegal to go in there.
I remember that thread Grin
choli · 14/10/2020 09:08

@AllPlayedOut

Years ago, a toddler chasing pigeons.

I will admit to hating it when parents allow their kids to do that.

So do I. Horrible behavior to allow.
