What is the strangest thing you’ve seen someone get annoyed about on here?

StanfordPines · 11/10/2020 08:15

I was reminded yesterday of a poster who was furious about people including the county in postal addresses.
I’ve also had a thread where posters are angry with me for not having a bin in my bathroom.
Then there was the poster who said that women who put their bras on in a certain fashion will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.

Something are worth getting cross about but what is the most inconsequential thing you’ve seen posters getting angry about?

Anyone who is on a 'higher' income, which on MN appears to be anything above £20k, is usually subjected to a fair amount of vitriol if they post about a financial problem.

MN is weird about money. Either everyone is on a 6 figure salary, or married to someone with a 6 figure salary, or they despise the wage slaves and their "very important jobs" it's bizarre.

caughtalightsneeze · 14/10/2020 09:41

I think it's fair to say though that a financial problem with a high income can be solved. You might not like the solution, it might even make you miserable, but it's not impossible to downsize/cut outgoings. We have a middling household income (although by Mumsnet standards it would be viewed as utter poverty) and even we could easily shave hundreds off our outgoings every month if we needed to. We'd hate it and we'd feel hard done by, but it could be done.

But 20 years ago we were properly struggling and there was absolutely nowhere to go. We couldn't move to cheaper housing, as there was nothing cheaper. We couldn't cut our outgoings as we were paying the bare minimum that we could.

I can well understand how people who live on a knife edge financially feel resentful when people who have ultimately chosen to have high outgoings to match their high income complain that they struggle financially. I think that people who have never known what it is like to actually wonder if you can afford to buy any more food just don't have the same concept of 'financial problems'.

heidipi · 14/10/2020 11:03

Right I'm going to take the plunge:

If a toddler chases pigeons, don't they just fly away? (then land again moments later and carry on with their business)

notafanoftheman · 14/10/2020 11:24

TBF the helium thing is a serious issue.

For the record, idgaf about pigeons. Have at ‘em, toddlers.

this

I have friends who make more than double me that complain constantly about money/debt but they CHOOSE to live in the heart of the city, they have expensive contract phones, gym memberships, long haul annual holidays, drink starbucks daily, buy designer clothing etc... and I'm sorry but I have no sympathy that they are broke because its their own fault they blow their money without forethought

I dont really care what others do with their own money but they insist on bitching to me and making it something I have to listen to so thats the annoying part and if you make the mistake of offering advice you get your head bit off that you 'dont understand because you must just be lucky/rich' Hmm

GiantKitten · 14/10/2020 11:54

@mam0918

But you still consider them friends? Confused

BoulangerieBabs · 14/10/2020 11:54

There's currently a thread running on fabric softener, it's quite dramatic and the needlessly annoyed are out in force.

I get it it if you don't like the stuff but the "it reeks" "the stench" comments are hilarious.

I just think it's weirder that MN attracts these weird comments about "not believing everything you read on the internet" etc when someone has a high salary.

I'm not sure why we don't believe other women earn high salaries. The belief that we are instead so insecure we need to bullshit about salaries online is really weird! Grin I'm sure some people lie, but I would imagine more tell the truth than lie.

Saying that I hardly ever see posts from people who earn 40k ish, nearly always one end of the scale or the other

Please link! That sounds like my ideal kind of thread.

Yes, this. There is a difference between having to cut down and not being able to meet essential costs. I am in the position at the moment of having to cut down, a lot, due to DH's redundancy. But I have previously been in the position of not being able to both top up the metres and buy enough food for the week and there is no comparison, none at all, between the two situations.

I get unreasonably annoyed, to the point I am going to need to self impose a ban on replying, when anyone says something along the lines of "well I know £60k seems like a lot but after the mortgage is paid it really isn't".

Hotel thread the other day, there was a poster insisting a £100 k salary 'wasn't a fortune'. Ok, love. Yep.
BoulangerieBabs · 14/10/2020 12:03

I bet you're one of those people who doesn't realise how bad you smell.
BoulangerieBabs · 14/10/2020 12:24

tectonic if you read the thread you'd realise that I've only recently gone back to using Smol fabric softener so ta but we don't REEK or omit any STENCH because we aren't DOUSED in the stuff [sceptical]

TweeBree · 14/10/2020 12:28

The insane teacher who refused to believe other posters could have had shitty teachers and went through quoting each and every response to argue it.

I was coming to say this about the thread.

It also reminds me of scented pads or panty liners. I'm not a big fan but posters on here get very worked up about them. I'm sure I've read people saying that they can smell them at several meters away.

Scented pads can cause thrush. Practically any doctor would advise against them so I don't see why that cant be talked about.

VinylDetective · 14/10/2020 12:37

@saywhatwhatnow

I remember the one about kids chasing pigeons, it did make me laugh! I can't get worked up at all about a two year old running after a couple of pigeons in the park before being distracted by the zip wire. It's hardly animal abuse! dons hard hat
That was hysterical. Apparently it was terrorising pigeons. Which is obviously why they congregate on places where there are lots of people. Bonkers.
Cocothefirst · 14/10/2020 12:44

During Covid madness someone called an old man who popped out for his paper every day a 'selfish cunt'. I was horrified.

A few years ago I mentioned in a post that my DP (father of my children) had died a few years earlier. We were talking about the law, legal status etc (not in the UK), and I referred to myself as a widow.
One poster got really angry and posted in capitals: YOU'RE NOT A WIDOW! YOUR BOYFRIEND DIED! HE WAS JUST A BABY DADDY! YOU ARE NOT A WIDOW.

Bluntness100 · 14/10/2020 12:51

Has interior decor been done, can’t even recall if I did it. But the sheer venom some folks have for random peoples interior decor choices is astonishing.

Grey being the prime example. With posters calling it vile, heinous, awful, cheap, tacky, and slagging it off, to the extent that folks come on pleading “I don’t have grey” like it’s something shameful

Imagine getting worked up about what colour someone paints their living room.,😂

The other ones are of course, wood burners, kitchen islands, love live laugh signs, and if you dare to not have a bath in your home, you may as well resign your membership and fuck off and self flagellate in your new shower...
