Do you have an unfortunate name? Or know someone else that does?

It's been drawn to my attention by DH this week, that because of my habit of trailing the end of the word away to a squiggle when I'm signing my name, I've been signing everything as TWat_ for quite a while. He found this hilarious.

And I can't even blame him for his unfortunate surname beginning as I was another name beginning with Wat...before I married.

@Frlrlrubert

DH's friend's brother is Micheal Hunt.

Yes, he goes by Mike.

Wonder if it is the same MH I worked with? Never did find an acceptable way to ask after his whereabouts: 'Has anyone seen MH?'; 'Where's MH ?' Etc etc
Sewsosew · 10/10/2020 23:11

My friend was taught my someone called Randy Bender (30 years later I’ve Googled it and there’s loads of people called that).

Just remembered a couple I knew years ago. His surname was Coldwell and her surname was Drinkwater. They made a big deal of 'drinkwater from a coldwell'

Clevs · 10/10/2020 23:28

I used to work with a lesbian whose surname was Dix.

And in another job I worked with a lad whose surname was Forsdick.

I've met a Michael Hunt through work and he was very insistent on being called Michael and not Mike.

There's a GP that works in a surgery near me called Dr. Pawley.

Mochudubh · 10/10/2020 23:29

houmousexpert · 10/10/2020 23:38

My kids' swimming teacher was Chris Peacock, poor man...

My Mum went to school with Rhoda Horsey... (bet she changed her name!)

I, unfortunately , grew up with the surname 'Tough'.. and suffered many jokes and teasing. On the other hand it was easy to find us in the phone book... there were three in there.. One was my Mum and the other two my dad's ex wives!! Grin

ShelbyCherryBlossom · 10/10/2020 23:50

My school had a teacher called Mr Freddie - turns out his real name was Mr Willie, first name Richard. I'm not surprised he changed it but very surprised he chose to work in education.

Also know a Hilary Hill and a Wendy Winder.

theorangesisters · 10/10/2020 23:56

My grandma's maiden name was grief and when she was born her parents loved the name joy but decided they just couldn't do that!

JaneyGotAGun · 11/10/2020 00:07

The priest at my Roman Catholic secondary school was Father Willie Strain. Everyone always sniggered when he was introduced at Mass.
