Do you have an unfortunate name? Or know someone else that does?

It's been drawn to my attention by DH this week, that because of my habit of trailing the end of the word away to a squiggle when I'm signing my name, I've been signing everything as TWat_ for quite a while. He found this hilarious.

And I can't even blame him for his unfortunate surname beginning as I was another name beginning with Wat...before I married.

Not unfortunate per se, but I was wondering out loud with DH this week if Harry Kane’s (the footballer) parents did it on purpose Grin

I know a family with the surname Hunt who called their kid Dominic. I mean, you'd avoid and C ending name if you were called Hunt, surely.

The writer of the Buff and Chip books is Roderick Hunt. I thought dd dropped the C-homb at age 6 then realised she was reading his name.

At least they can go by Dom and Rod, though, unlike the Mikes mentioned.

@PinkJellycat

My sister went to uni with a Turkish girl called Tuna Kunt. The most unfortunate of names.
Oh good grief. Poor, poor girl.
wellerhugs5 · 11/10/2020 11:06

@NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs

I know two teenage sisters, Beau and Lexi. Shorten them and say them together and you've almost got a pair of bollocks.

@MaosChaos - the hypnotherapist?

Thecazelets · 11/10/2020 12:42

Not unfortunate in the smutty sense, but I went to school with a Tabitha Smith, which I to this day find almost impossible to say without a lisp.

DirtyDeeds · 11/10/2020 12:49

Knew a woman who was engaged to an Ivor Harding. And his middle name was Richard...

cricketmum84 · 11/10/2020 12:49

I knew a girl at school names Crystal Frost. I was always so jealous as I thought her name was just beautiful. waves to Crystal if she is on here!

I had a quite unfortunate surname. Was so relieved when I got married and changed it.

Also worked with a lady called Sandie Butt. I processed her new starter form and was just like 😳😳😳

Bollss · 11/10/2020 12:53

Yes, that's him. He used to drive a hearst?

DirtyDeeds · 11/10/2020 13:54

@MaosChaos not sure what he used to drive. Sadly his surname is pronounced ‘Oak’ but he’ll always be Garyoke to me Grin

LadyCatStark · 11/10/2020 14:10

I know of a Stuart Little, which is unfortunate because he would outdate the rat!

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 11/10/2020 14:19

MIL had Mr and Mrs Smellie move next door to her. I struggled to keep it together when they introduced themselves!

Angliski · 11/10/2020 14:40

American called Randy Buck. Hungary et is better though!

Also a lady called Shital.

MrsWhites · 11/10/2020 14:45

Many years ago I used to have to deal with a man named Richard Head, he would answer the phone by saying ‘Dick here’, we used to draw straws to see who would call him because it was so hard to not laugh! I mean if you’re unfortunate enough to have the name Richard Head, you’d shorten your name to Rich and surely not Dick!

Xenia · 11/10/2020 14:57

I was emailing someone for work this week who has Bottom in his name. Another work contact is Dick so is always finding his emails excluded by software because he uses that disgusting rude word.

Whattheduck · 11/10/2020 15:07
