Do you have an unfortunate name? Or know someone else that does?

It's been drawn to my attention by DH this week, that because of my habit of trailing the end of the word away to a squiggle when I'm signing my name, I've been signing everything as TWat_ for quite a while. He found this hilarious.

And I can't even blame him for his unfortunate surname beginning as I was another name beginning with Wat...before I married.

I once had to phone an Andrew Crapper. Luckily he answered "hello Andrew speaking', thus saving me having to ask for him.

DH's friend's brother is Micheal Hunt.

Yes, he goes by Mike.

DramaAlpaca · 10/10/2020 15:40

Of course I'm not saying what it is, but my maiden name is a bit embarrassing and tease-worthy.

I was delighted to change it to my DH's unusual but very nice surname when I got married.

RaspberryToupee · 10/10/2020 15:44

My DH. His surname is unfortunate and combined with his middle name, it’s just ridiculous. Fortunately most people don’t know his middle name.

CarlottaValdez · 10/10/2020 15:44

I'm not sure of the spelling but there was a boy at air cadets called Anal Banger Confused Poor kid. Luckily everyone was addressed by rank at cadets so he was Cadet Banger.

We had a neighbour when I was small. Mr Leatherbottom. Lovely man ... Was proud of his name!

chipsandgin · 10/10/2020 15:50

I went to school with a Theresa Green. I also had a neighbour called Mr Cock, I was always curious as to whether he’d considered changing it but never knew him well enough to ask!

FlyingApples · 10/10/2020 15:51

Girl at school was Angela Pratt (A Pratt). I believe she changed her first name later to something that did not begin with A.

RobertaTheGreat · 10/10/2020 15:51

Worked with a lecherous old man years ago called Sid Orgy.

I know a Jane Cane (married name), and a chap called Ivor Hoare. I once saw him march up to someone, extended his hand and say Ivor Hoare very confidently, only to get very confused when they looked shocked and said "erm, do you? That's nice"

Coldwinterahead1 · 10/10/2020 15:52

Richard Swallow (liked to be called Dick)

Mylittlepony374 · 10/10/2020 15:54

Bridget-Jane (BJ) Service was a girl at my school. Very unfortunate when you're 15 particularly.

Guess what my name is and I've got to ring and ask to speak to a manager Monday 🙈

What do you mean "only misogynists think it's unfortunate". Surely you mean "only misogynists use the name Karen in a derogatory way".

kness · 10/10/2020 16:04

You are making things worse. Just stop.

This is clearly a thread about names that accidentally sound rude, or initials that spell a word etc. The Karen thing belongs on a different discussion. Your comments are making things worse, so give it a rest.
