Do you have an unfortunate name? Or know someone else that does?

It's been drawn to my attention by DH this week, that because of my habit of trailing the end of the word away to a squiggle when I'm signing my name, I've been signing everything as TWat_ for quite a while. He found this hilarious.

And I can't even blame him for his unfortunate surname beginning as I was another name beginning with Wat...before I married.

Bottom is not an unusual name here.
When DD began school all 3 TAs in YR were called Bottom much to the DC amusement ( they were related)

ememem84 · 11/10/2020 18:31

A lawyer in a place I used to work had a last name which contained the letters TWAT in that order. Emails frequently blocked.

cricketmum84 · 11/10/2020 18:40

Oh I also worked with a Mustaf Abed. Always used to make me giggle

My parents named me after a sexual act unintentionally. They didn't realise until I went to secondary school and I was bullied. My first name is slang for female genetailia and my surname finishes the job!! They were upset when I changed my name via deed poll but can understand why now! Bless them!! 😁

Milknosugarthx · 11/10/2020 19:51

@fairydustandpixies haha bless this made me laugh .

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/10/2020 20:32

I always sniggered as a teen when the credits to various programmes (inc Buffy) showed Brian Wankum as being on their list.

A nearby church has a bench dedicated to Dick Glew. Surely you’d go by Richard, wouldn’t you?

There’s also Fanny Hands Lane in the area; I think it’s named after a local landowner’s wife, but googling Fanny Hands didn’t go well.

DirtyDeeds · 11/10/2020 22:02

@fairydustandpixies I have a filthy mind but you’ve completely got me stumped!

DigitalGhost · 11/10/2020 22:25

@hoppinggreen that's the name I was going to add 😂

Uneasyy · 11/10/2020 22:31

The Mike Hunts of the world haven’t got it easy

StayClosePooky · 11/10/2020 22:32

A teacher at my high school called Mr Raper. Honestly why you would choose to teach high school kids with a name like that Grin

Noidea2114 · 11/10/2020 22:36

I went to school with a girl called Linda Crumplehome.
And recently I was introduced to a Mrs Crump (never gave the first name)

porkandbeans · 11/10/2020 22:41

My mum used to teach a Dwayne Pipe

littlemisslozza · 11/10/2020 22:53

I taught someone called Roger Boyes

cricketmum84 · 11/10/2020 22:57

@StayClosePooky yeah but imagine someone with that surname and the first name of Joanna.... and every time they call out the register the boys say no thanks....

draughtycatflap · 11/10/2020 23:16

I once answered the phone to a Dick Staines, and it wasn’t a joke, it was an internal call in our organisation.

Torvean32 · 12/10/2020 02:54

Met her at uni. Her name was Nicola Proctor , doesn't prob seem so bad. However she was a medical student.
She ended up failing her first year exams twice. So she had to leave the Uni. In the end she may have ended up in a job where it had no relevance.

MsKeats · 14/10/2020 06:51

Used to work with a Teresa Green and he brother was Winston Green -both from Birmingham.

Joanna Raper Grin Christ alive ha!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 16/10/2020 00:13

These are hilarious, but I genuinely found it difficult to breathe properly for a good couple of minutes at Pooja Pantts Grin

It sounds like a couple of PPs went to school with Wayne King. You'll be pleased to know that he's doing very well for himself and has actually become a famous musician.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 16/10/2020 00:20

If anybody has ever wondered why Fish from Marillion decided to go by that rather strange stage name, it's clearly to detract attention from his real name: Derek Willey Dick!

A long time ago, I was in communication at work with somebody from another company called Terry Leavett. Every single time his name popped up in the email inbox, I couldn't help reading it out loudly in my best, broadest, most aggressive Eastenders accent and adding " 'E ain't worf it!!!!"

Guardsman18 · 16/10/2020 14:41

I knew someone at work with the surname Lydiatt and her first name was Ria!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 16/10/2020 14:55

Met her at uni. Her name was Nicola Proctor , doesn't prob seem so bad. However she was a medical student.

And tell me, did Dr Proctor specialise in colo-rectal surgery?! Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 16/10/2020 14:58

I don't know why, but Ria Lydiatt has me giggling even more than some of the really rude ones!

You don't even have to have a dirty mind when thinking about what to avoid calling your baby, as you would with Jenna Taylor or Richard Head - it's just right there, staring you in the face!!
