Have you had a flu shot yet?

If you're planning on getting it - have you had yours?

Just had mine this morning and glad to have it done and out of the way! I'm not in the UK, but the nurse was saying that uptake has been huge this year and they ran out on a couple of days last month.

@Fluffycloudland77

Also, peak flu is jan/feb.
Maybe for the adult population - there's another peak in mid-late November/1st week of December in schools. Often coincides with Scarlet Fever, Norovirus and Tonsillitis.

Guess it takes until then to get around to everybody else; the outliers go down with it over Christmas/New Year, (and bring it back in with them on January 3rd) and then the rest of the adults end up with it within 3-4 weeks.

Yes, at Boots last week - booked in early September. No adverse reactions.

Spied · 07/10/2020 18:46

Yes, our surgery opened at the weekend for all vulnerable under 65's.
I had one episode of arrythmia a few years ago and I take a beta blocker. I presume that's why I'm eligible.

mizu · 07/10/2020 18:56

Had it done on Saturday at my local Badhams chemist. Was given a voucher from work for Boots (teacher) but all booked up in the nearest towns so paid for it.

Didn't hurt but arm hurt a bit the next day.

rainatnightlove · 10/10/2020 01:13

Had mine today, no issues just a sore arm as usual :)

PenguinsOnParade · 10/10/2020 01:20

I can't get one right now.

I have health conditions which mean I'm more likely to catch it but still not eligible for one on the NHS because I fall between the cracks.

I didn't realise quite how bad the demand would be this year so didn't book early (I can normally walk in and get booked in instantly) and now nowhere where I am is doing them privately so I just have to wait and hope one of the pharmacies has them available again soon. It's not a big area so we only have Boots, Well, Lloyds and one private pharmacy here to go to. Our Superdrug is only a retail shop, same for all the supermarkets so no chance of going to them.

pitchblue · 10/10/2020 01:44

I had mine yesterday at Boots, I booked weeks ago. I'm a carer for a family member so I can get it free but usually I forget to book one and then by the time I think about it's December, and I think it's too late to be worth bothering.

This year I was keen to get one though because I didn't want flu symptoms because it would mean having to get a Covid test and self isolating, and DD missing nursery.

andadietcoke · 10/10/2020 01:45

My Well pharmacy called over the summer and asked if I wanted one ordering. Went in for it today to be told they had no stock (had a booked appointment) and can't be sure they'll get any more in. So glad I planned ahead...

loubieloo4 · 10/10/2020 01:53

Yes, last Saturday. GP surgery held a vaccination clinic from 10-2 and managed to give 8000! They are doing the same clinic today.

brieandcrackers · 10/10/2020 02:32

Had mine this week (Lloyds Pharmacy inside my local Sainsburys) - booked around a month ago. Following day was horrendous as I already had a slight cold which was then joined by flu symptoms! All good now, just a sore arm.

Apparently they had to cancel quite a few bookings due to low stock levels - mine would have been cancelled too but they had a few no-show the previous day thankfully.

dazzlinghaze · 10/10/2020 02:48

Mine is booked for later this month. I work for the NHS so get it through them. I skipped it last year because I didn't think it was doing any good because I still got ill over the winter but I got actual flu last year and was in bed for a fortnight so won't make that mistake again!

Aebj · 10/10/2020 03:02

I had mine done in May ( I’m in Australia so just in time for our winter months!) . However I heard that it’s only really works for 3-4 months , so no point having it to early , as it’ll not be effective for the winter months . Not sure how true this information is but worth a thought

eaglejulesk · 10/10/2020 03:12

I had mine in May - Southern Hemisphere - but I'm shocked at the prices posters are mentioning on here. We pay way more for ours Shock

Pachonga · 10/10/2020 03:40

We in Northern Hemisphere advised mid-October is the optimum time. Free here in the US with insurance or free at work or community projects. If you have no insurance and don’t want to take part in a free clinic, it would cost you $25

quarlly · 10/10/2020 03:42

@Pickypolly I don't know why i should, I think I could get a free one but I'm really unsure. Please tell me why I should get one 😄

Inkpaperstars · 10/10/2020 03:44

I have had it, advised to as pregnant but midwife and hospital could not arrange it. I didn't bother calling GP, just went on waiting list for local pharmacy and after initially cancelling me due to lack of supplies I got one.

People asking why you wouldn't....there are some people who are advised not to by their doctors for specific medical reasons. I only know this because my DM is one of them, tbh I do often wonder if the advice was correct as she is older and so more vulnerable. I normally don't have it either, actually only people my age I know who have it work in frontline medicine.

MrsWombat · 10/10/2020 06:29

Had a private one done in the middle of September in Boots. I'd booked it in August.

NoMoreFlowers · 10/10/2020 06:57

Yes, £9 at Tesco pharmacy

eaglejulesk · 10/10/2020 09:01

I used to get mine free through work, not working now so have to pay (free from age 65, I'm not there yet). I paid $37 at the doctor's surgery, and the pharmacy was slightly more expensive!!!

Autumngoldleaf · 10/10/2020 09:47

Those who qualify free, apart from those on benefits etc do you hold out to get it free?.
I always find the qualify or not qualify confusing.
Everyone qualify but only some get it free.
I get offered it for free, through work but I've paid to have it done because I could get it done sooner.

I've always paid privately previously.
Get the whole family done.

Autumngoldleaf · 10/10/2020 09:51

Supermarkets, super drug, boot all do it as to private doctors, for dd when under 12 I used to pay to get them done privately.
Ranging from 8 pounds to 13.

The only thing is some places do 3 strains some do 4.one year it was only super drug who covered the 4th strain and that was the one everyone was getting
