Have you had a flu shot yet?

If you're planning on getting it - have you had yours?

Just had mine this morning and glad to have it done and out of the way! I'm not in the UK, but the nurse was saying that uptake has been huge this year and they ran out on a couple of days last month.

@Toddlerteaplease

I have managed to vaccinate 12 people this morning. The excuses for not having it are driving me nuts. No one has a proper reason for not having it.
What’s the best so far?. Someone said to me they didn’t have it as they never had flu which is like saying I’m not using my seat belt because I’ve never crashed or I don’t shut my front door because I’ve never been burgled 🤨.

New cars still come with audible alarms to prompt you to fasten your seat belt about 50 years after they became law which tells you a lot about human beings.

Devlesko · 07/10/2020 13:23

vinyl

Wrongo, I'm not anti vax, kids had all their injections.
I do think it's personal choice though and "vaxers" spouting shite to anti vaxers drives me mad too, so ditto.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/10/2020 13:25

I don’t think mercury is used in single dose shots you know.

PrayingandHoping · 07/10/2020 13:32

Mercury def isn't used in single dose shots

You also don't shed from the injected flu vaccine

Toddlerteaplease · 07/10/2020 14:03

@Fluffycloudland77
"I'm thinking about it"
"I need to psych myself up for it"

I wouldn't mind but we are nurses for heaven sake!!!

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/10/2020 14:14

😂 hcp are shit patients aren’t we?.

Podiatrists have to have Hep A, Hep B, tetanus boosters before starting training & I’d assume you did too. I don’t remember doing much thinking about it either.

I had Men C while I was there just for fun.

PaperMonster · 07/10/2020 14:48

Am hoping work still have vouchers next week so I can go and get one and book the jab. They were only giving them out at certain times and I was with students at those times so missed out.

HoldMyLobster · 07/10/2020 15:47

My flu shot arm was a bit sore. I get allergy shots every 2-3 weeks which are much more sore though.

Other than that, no after effects (for the 10th year running).

doctorboo · 07/10/2020 16:00

I had mine last week (thurs) at the local chemist. I decided to pay for it (£12) rather than wait for my free one as I work in a school and have been a bit uneasy that children came back in Sept with with more than just a simple sniffle in Week One and we’ve not had full attendance since. I can’t imagine that’s going to improve.

My children will have theirs at school in a couple of weeks and I’m counting down the days until it’s done and I can tick it off the list.

hoochymamgu · 07/10/2020 16:07

Mine yesterday at local independent chemist (HCP). Booked a few weeks ago. DH still waiting for his at the surgery (chronic illness). They say they are waiting for more flu vaccine.
Oo yes to a sore arm! Felt yuck last night too, more than last year.

iVampire · 07/10/2020 16:12

Yes, I had mine at a pharmacist last week (as GP hadn’t started flu jab clinics then). I have leukaemia and get myself done as early as possible (before the school sniff programme starts, as I’m the unusual person who could be at risk from shedding)

My cohabitants also qualify for NHS shots (every year, not just this). DD is booked for hers at GP tomorrow.

DS is at university and is having trouble tracking one down. I just hope he manages to get one well before the end of term

Pachonga · 07/10/2020 16:13

Yes, get it every year (offered to all where I live)

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/10/2020 16:19

They should just make it free for everyone, surely the savings would pay for it in terms of lost work days and time spent using hospital beds.

I remember a relative being in hdu at a cost of £7k a day for pneumonia so surely a stay for flu complications would cost a fortune.

No I haven't and I am not sure if I should. Still debating if i should or not really. I've only had flu twice in my life I think , definitely have had it once for sure about 12 years ago. Whilst I am not against vaccinations I don't really want to get all the vaccinations I can get for the sake of it. My dd's vaccinations are up to date but I haven't got her the flu one yet as I am unsure if she needs it. I think I will most probably get hers done as everyone seems to be getting it and she also has mild asthmatic symptoms even though she hasn't been diagnosed (she's nearly 3). I know I sound really ignorant but I cant understand why there are more people having the flu jab this year? It's not a vaccination against covid? What am I missing here? Please be nice, its a genuine question.

The nhs is trying to reduce the strain caused by flu admissions, so their vaccinating the groups most likely to be hospitalised. It’s not just the flu episode it’s complications afterwards like heart damage or organ failure.

Kids have less personal space that adults, adults naturally keep apart from strangers but you get that as you mature, kids get very close hence nits transmission. They are known as super spreaders.

Funkypolar · 07/10/2020 16:52

Not for me.

Pleasenomoreglitter · 07/10/2020 17:00

Had mine this afternoon at Tesco after Lloyds cancelled a couple of weeks ago. Got what I assumed was flu at Christmas and was in bed for a week and wiped out for another week. Vowed then I'd get the flu jab this year!

5lilducks · 07/10/2020 17:02

@Fluffycloudland77. Ahhh, thanks for enlightening me! I think DH and I will most probably try and get flu jabs then ,at least just for this year. I've only had a flu jab once in my life and that was when I was pregnant.

TheYeaSayer · 07/10/2020 17:24

Got mine done today at Tesco. Booked weeks ago. The pharmacist said I must be one of the last people to get it done privately as there was now a huge deficit nationally.

I hope I haven't deprived anyone who might need it more.

Plussizejumpsuit · 07/10/2020 17:26

Yes 2 weeks ago at GP surgery. I'm 35 but get it free as I have a health condition.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/10/2020 17:28

Also, peak flu is jan/feb.

HoldMyLobster · 07/10/2020 18:05

I've had flu in October twice - knocked for six both times. So I try to get the flu shot as early as possible.

Endeavormorse · 07/10/2020 18:09

Had mine today at Lloyd’s. Booked a week ago

nevernotstruggling · 07/10/2020 18:17

I'm booked in to have it at work - front line sw. I have it every year.

Pieceofpurplesky · 07/10/2020 18:34

I am in the at risk category but they are only doing over 65s for now!
