Curry I hope you do not mind?
I put the last message in, and didn't find a new thread. Which I found disquiting, so to calm my nerves here goes.

@SecretsForSharing

I have a piece news that is dull by most standards but big only to my dull life!

I got made a pass at 😱. A proper affair proposition and declaration of lust by someone who has been pulling my pigtails for a long time. I told the grubby bugger NO of course. But I just need to it confess somewhere (here!)

Not remotely dull, but I enjoyed your account and some vicarious excitement in an otherwise dull and frustrating day.

I eventually got the audio working on my laptop for a meeting this afternoon by unplugging the external keyboard. Hmm I then spent a few minutes smashing questions into the chat and wondering why they weren’t showing up, before retyping them on the integral keyboard. 🤦‍♀️

Dh has been down to old house to plant some plants and this time he actually planted some. Got shopping from Waitrose including dim sum for tonight.

forgetthehousework · 29/09/2020 20:08

Today I have done nothing practical, useful or interesting.
Same as yesterday.

SpeedofaSloth · 29/09/2020 20:41

This evening we have discovered that Y7 DS is slowly learning that he needs to do what his teachers ask him to, or there will be consequences. Like if you don't write things down in your planner then you will forget to do things, and then get into trouble.

Paranoidmarvin · 29/09/2020 20:56

@SpeedofaSloth my son did that. Took a few times but he got there in the end. I find they do Jump from being babies and done everything for them in primary school to being expected to do more on their own. Takes a few weeks to get used to x

@0blio

I collected my sainsburys shop. My bag of salad is short dated but they did give me the option of refusing it.

So nice to hear everyday news from other parts of the world Smile

It is lovely to hear about what's going on with regular people in other countries. It's what attracted me to MN in the first place.

Everyone on MN talks about grocery stores all the time - sainsbury, waitrose, aldi's, etc. and I've never been inside any of these stores so really don't have any idea what makes one different from the other.

For perspective, this is my favorite regular supermaket:

www.wegmans.com/

Great quality, huge stores, pretty posh but good prices. They sell bulk candies that I box up and ship to DS at uni.

For prepared foods, bakery, seafood and prime meats this Italian market is fabulous:

uncleg.com/

I hope that gives you all a bit of a feel for the NY grocery shopping options. Smile

SpeedofaSloth · 29/09/2020 21:09

Thank you @Paranoidmarvin, that's reassuring. He is bright and personable and if he gets on the right track he could be anything he wanted.

DrivingAgain2020 · 29/09/2020 21:10

Today we went out for lunch. DM was amazed at the discount (the restaurant was still running 50% off).

After that we went for a walk. The sunshine was just the right temperature. I could not have been happier, unless perhaps I had stopped to go on the swings (I am an adult).

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/09/2020 21:17

Miss
I clicked the link, too far away. I'm in the original Aldi country, though I shop at Penny.
And - as for the nuts: Kerntaler Weiße is what I'll make. Simple and nice and unexciting.

We've been doing a sponsored exercise thing this month and I mentioned it at work (not asking, just as part of a chat). Loads of people then went off and donated and it's made me feel all soppy. I work with some lovely people and I miss them!

I'm having glasses frames envy watching Pru on tonight's Bake Off.

AnneBoleynsHead · 29/09/2020 21:43

I need to think of a tea for tomorrow to feed 6. I have no spare time after work so it needs to made /prepped before work in the morning. Children are involved -any thoughts

I don't know what you have on hand or how much time you have to do this, but my first thought would be lasagna. If that's too much, I'd do takeaway pizza.
boatyardblues · 30/09/2020 00:27

MissConduct - others will correct me if I get it wrong, but the pecking order of UK supermarkets goes something like this:

POSHEST > MOST EVERYDAY

Booths - truly niche, north of England only
Waitrose - benchmark posh, naice locations generally
M&S Food - ubiquitous but expensive
Sainsburys
Tesco
= Asda (Walmart owned)
= Morrisons
Lidl (European import discount food retailer)
Aldi (ditto)

Much of the food in Lidl is nicer than Morrisons IMO, but Morrisons is one of the original “big four” and not a discounter.

Did I miss anyone?

KoalaandRabbit · 30/09/2020 02:38

Think there's also Co-op which is 5th biggest in UK and around middle of taht list, similar to Sainsburys or Tesco. Also heard of Budgens which is on the budget end of that list, maybe similar to Morrisons. Co-op is owned by its members and more of an ethical focus, we are rural now and a lot of the nearest supermarkets are Co-op. When we were by London our local was a Waitrose so we shopped there. I was lucky my job gave me 9% off vouchers which made it similar price to Sainsburys / Tescos but some nicer things.

KoalaandRabbit · 30/09/2020 02:41

This is the Waitrose site:

www.waitrose.com/ecom/shop/browse/groceries

Our Co-op in the village is quite small but big enough for everyday items though sometimes need to go to Sainsburys / Waitrose if want more choice.

BasiliskStare · 30/09/2020 03:00

I ordered some new placemats today online. They are exactly the same as the ones I am replacing which I bought when we got married 25 years ago.

Susannahmoody · 30/09/2020 03:08

I really want someone to make a pass at me. Anyone!

I keep thinking my neighbours are gonna invite me to have a 3 some, but they don't?

In other news, it's raining here.

Susannahmoody · 30/09/2020 03:09

Ooh, bake off was tonight?

Brill ☺

toria658 · 30/09/2020 03:11

Ihave been given a secondhand breadmaker. I have tried and tried to make bread that is not cakey, crumbly and dense to no a avail. Have use manufacturers instructions, other recipes etc etc to no avail.

Also now really struggling with the idea that cup measurements are different in different countries...

dinodiva · 30/09/2020 06:30

I got my fleece dressing gown out. It’s cosy. It might need a wash though, it has marmite on the sleeves.

Deathraystare · 30/09/2020 07:29

Well i will not tell you all about my weekend, visiting my brother's family because that will bring you over the edge of excitement.

Instead I will let you know that today I worried my bass pass was out of funds (I have a free 60+ oyster but have to use a normal paying one before 9am, so when I do an early shift I have to use the paying card). Luckily I had £12.50 left so that was alright.

Deathraystare · 30/09/2020 07:29

Bus pass not bass pass!

Deathraystare · 30/09/2020 07:31

I'm having glasses frames envy watching Pru on tonight's Bake Off.

Yes my brother's family and I were all commentating on her glasses. I fear she is a bit too colourful and exciting for this thread.

Elderflower14 · 30/09/2020 07:38

This was yesterday... Ds2 met Martin Freeman... He's a huge Nativity! fan... Martin helped ds2 do his Makaton video for the sign of the day and signed his dvd cover.. They facetimed me too so I could say hello.. Ds2 was SO excited and MF was lovely with him...

There seems to be an unfeasibly amount of acorns this year

And Horse Chestnuts. Loads around Leeds Castle.

Lachy - Yeah Lakaland is like Crack. If I had the money I would go beserk. I once bought a banana holder (banana shaped for a single banana. The box was delivered to my then place of work. Someone opened it and decided it was a sex toy.......
