Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 4: Calmly through the day

Curry I hope you do not mind?
I put the last message in, and didn't find a new thread. Which I found disquiting, so to calm my nerves here goes.

@Spudlet it's virtually impossible to self isolate isn't it! Delivery slots are usually a couple of weeks away, I'd starve.

I was going to call into branch to make a payment but because I'm lazy I think I'll phone instead. I've made a payment over the phone before so they should have the details saved. And I've had two cups of tea this morning. That's my exciting newsflash of the day.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 29/09/2020 11:19

Going to have a nice toasted cheese sandwich for lunch witr a splash of Worcester Sauce.

Is there is ANYTHING more comforting in the world than gooey melted cheese on a thick slab of bread? Low-carbers be damned! 😋

Spudlet · 29/09/2020 13:33

@Frownette Yes, we’d be buggered. We’d have to hope we could get someone in the village to pick up a click and collect order for us, or at worst go and ask the Tesco people to load it into the car for us while we stayed in - I don’t even know if that’s allowed, but if there’s no other way, what are you meant to do, starve?

Home now in my comfiest pyjama bottoms watching a film with DS - he’s ok but quite tired and sniffly and it’s forest school this afternoon so they called me and asked if we wanted to collect him, as it’s pretty wet and miserable here today. He’s now bouncing around like Tigger, so I don’t think there’s much wrong with him 🙄

Nydj · 29/09/2020 15:58

I still have a cold and was feeling very sorry for myself (yes, I know many, many people much worse off). I had a Vietnamese style coffee to stay awake - it has condensed milk instead of milk and tastes divine especially to someone like me who doesn’t really like drinking coffee because it takes all the bitter notes off.
I feel better after the coffee.

hamstersarse · 29/09/2020 16:00

I'm just going on my last video call for the day then I'm going to take the dog for a long walk and listen to a podcast

RepeatSwan · 29/09/2020 16:14

Similar to above I'm wrapping up from work and going out for a walk. Then hoping to watch some crappy telly and sleep Smile

Paranoidmarvin · 29/09/2020 16:37

@Nydj me too. I’m finding that the coldness of the ice cream is helping.

KoalaandRabbit · 29/09/2020 16:44

I've still got wierd eating due to kidney infection / 16 days of antibiotics so today I've eaten a yoghurt, boiled potatoes and now going to try Frosties and jam doghnuts. Not sure if that's a good idea but I'll find out.

DS and DD back from school. DS says 2 film crew has been in - his theory is that its to try and entice children back to school who left after the Ofsted report but I suspect its the y6 open virtual evening video and many kids are just off as self-isolating. He says one film crew is called the professional film crew and one is just a normal film crew and he's been watching them to see the difference between professional and normal and he has a few theories on that too. Grin

KoalaandRabbit · 29/09/2020 16:45

Or even doughnuts Grin

I have a piece news that is dull by most standards but big only to my dull life!

I got made a pass at 😱. A proper affair proposition and declaration of lust by someone who has been pulling my pigtails for a long time. I told the grubby bugger NO of course. But I just need to it confess somewhere (here!)

I'd say that qualifies as big news!

I get a lot of flirting at work, but no straight-up affair propositions. I'm not sure if I'd be more distressed or flattered. Depends on the bloke I guess. Smile

SecretsForSharing · 29/09/2020 17:09

It did feel quite big to me I must say. My life is very respectable, with many responsibilities and I’ve shut this down immediately.

But I think I’m in equal measure both distressed and totally titillated! I can’t admit that anywhere else!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/09/2020 17:12

I came home to DH in a work call - still going on, and DD exhausted because she handed the project in. It is out of her reach now

I walked to work (only 5 km) it was enjoyable but my foot played up. I've got an appointment with a foot surgeon on the 1st.

It just started raining in New York. The leaves are starting to turn now, a bit early this year I think.

I'm WFH doing admin and budget stuff, which is a nice change for me. DD is in her first year of uni, but doing it remotely. She's gutted she didn't get to go away, we're secretly thrilled to have her home and save the room and board charges. She's doing a Zoom class in her bedroom.

It's just lunch time here, so I have to wander up to the kitchen and decide how bad I'm going to be. Grin

What's the matter with your foot, OP?

hamstersarse · 29/09/2020 17:36

There seems to be an unfeasibly amount of acorns this year

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/09/2020 17:43

MissConductUS
Nothing much I hope - all my family have this 'big toe problem'. I was diagnosed 40 years ago and wore flat braod shoes. Last year the foot started to hurt, went to an orthpadist and she sent me straight on to a surgeon. I hope I can talk my way out of this.

Habanero harvest was not as good as last year.

MissConductUS · 29/09/2020 18:10

I had a pretty good crop of tomatoes and bell peppers this year. I grow them in containers on the deck. I'm in a suburban area that's pretty woodsy, so anything I plant outside the bloody deer eat.

Another reason DD is a bit stabby (love that word) is that her older brother's uni had everyone back and he's doing face to face classes, rowing crew, etc.

Do you recall the actual diagnosis the ortho gave you? I assume your appointment with the surgeon is for a consultation and that he's not going to just numb you and take out his kit.

I settled on a turkey sandwich with a bit of bacon, cheddar and cole slaw for lunch. It was delicious.

Frownette · 29/09/2020 18:34

I don't know what came over me yesterday but I bought a pair of high heeled boots. It was difficult enough getting into them but I have to get out of them at some point.

I was trying to walk in them today and pretended I was doing a little dance when I tripped getting over the road and up onto the pavement. It was all planned. of course it was.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/09/2020 18:43

MissConductUS No, it's just a consultation. I cannot remember the name especially not in English, but it not dangerous just annoying and not at all exciting I may add!
It must be annoying when sb can go back to all the fun and the other has to stay home. DD's course is completely online - she misses the choir and the mensa.

OP posts:
MissConductUS · 29/09/2020 19:24

@Frownette - sorry to hear about your accident. Hopefully nothing was seriously banged up. I gave up on high heels years ago. I'm short and high heels fool no one, plus I have to wear flats at work anyway.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus - Hope your consult goes well. Just remember with surgeons - if you have a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. What year is your DD in? Was she attending in person last year? My DD has a part time job in a nice chain restaraunt, so that lets her earn a bit of money and gets her out of the house. I have to take her up there in a couple of hours, so just me and DH will be here for dinner.

Nydj · 29/09/2020 19:27

I hope your foot is better soon, OP.

I noticed some of the chillies on my plant have developed a darker colouring on the top side i.e. whichever bit of the chilli is facing out towards the sun. I am certain it isn’t a disease but don’t understand the sudden change in colouring on parts of the chilli.

FawnDrench · 29/09/2020 19:27

I went to Tesco and bought some items which were offered at a lower price if you have a club card - which I do.

Disappointingly, as I selected said items, I was not miraculously hoisted above the aisles to fly effortlessly around the store bathed in an electrifying white light whilst simultaneously being serenaded by a full orchestra and sprinkled with youth-enhancing glitter, like in the advert.

I therefore conclude that the ad itself is misleading, is not a de facto representation of the "lived" Tesco shopping experience, and is, in fact, nothing more than an elaborate hoax.

RepeatSwan · 29/09/2020 19:34

On my walk I went through some allotments, I just love them so much. And saw a friend from work, and arranged to meet for lunch next week (outdoors of course!).

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/09/2020 19:35

@MissConductUS
DD was in her second semester when everything was switched to online. One of her profs got stuck in Italy for ages but continued teaching. Third semester starts at the end of October.

I just found that I have a lot of hazelnuts that need to be used up in a cake or lots of biscuits.

I collected my sainsburys shop. My bag of salad is short dated but they did give me the option of refusing it.

So nice to hear everyday news from other parts of the world Smile
