Curry I hope you do not mind?
I put the last message in, and didn't find a new thread. Which I found disquiting, so to calm my nerves here goes.

Was ordered into work for 8:30am this morning for training, only to find that none of senior members of staff were in, only one senior knew about but didn't know how to set it up so I was stuck in the office twiddling my thumbs. I decided to get a bit of e learning out of the way only to discover that this training was a zoom meeting and I needn't have put ds in breakfast club and paid for a taxi into work. I could have done it on my tablet at home. Was a bit peed off by that but OK.

Our nursing home yesterday came back with 5 positive covid tests, all staff, so phe were in this morning swabbing all staff and residents. Que me and the other girl I was doing this zoom call with being called away for two minutes for our tests by our management. Idiot hosting the zoom spoke to us like shit and kicked us out.

Well and truly pissed off by this point.

Thankfully, manager has 'had words' with total eejit and he has apologised. But I still have to do the training again because eejit wouldn't sign off on it.

All was not lost though, because I decided while I was there I would finish off a bit more of my e learning (which I can't do on my tablet because it uses flash).

Am now sitting in the coffee shop in the village near work trying to psych myself up to do the weekly shop before I pick up ds.

It's still raining.

I am very tired and have two long days ahead of me in work.

I really want to just go to bed.

Neolara · 09/10/2020 13:41

I can't decide whether to have an orange club biscuit or a KitKat.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/10/2020 13:52

I googled orange club biscuit - there is a homepage called greatbritishfood.de. (I didn't realise Dr.Oetker had a range of stuff for British cakes only.)

@BillywigSting I hope your days improve, being tired at work is rubbish. DB usually works nights, but then has to stay until handover is finished.

I'm off to buy myself some chocolate for my wedding anniversary (am widowed, it's not that DH wouldn't have bought some if he could!)

KoalaRabbit · 09/10/2020 14:40

Just had a message from secondary school saying it may shut to all but key worker and vulnerable kids so that's my two out. So sent an e-mail to try and get DS's password. Awful news for DD if it happens as she's in an exam year. Guess that means I won't be working for a while longer though that was expected. DS won't care and he's a year before the exam years.

MissConductUS · 09/10/2020 14:49

@Squirrel26 houseplants are great. Might I suggest an aloe plant? They are very hardy and if you have a burn or skin irritation you can cut off a piece and squeeze out the juice to use topically.

The picture is a massive aloe plant I've had for about 10 years. It's out on my deck (the second story deck the cats hang out on) but I'll bring it in before the first hard frost.

As you can see, I'm out in the woods.

Miss Lovely plant and lovely area!

MissConductUS · 09/10/2020 15:22

It is a lovely area. Here's a better picture of the deck. I sit out at that little table in the morning to have my coffee. That's my weather station in the foreground. Some of my flowers are still blooming.

A police car has just blue lighted up our quiet residential road but not stopped.

Helocariad · 09/10/2020 17:15

That looks lovely @MissConductUS. @MutteringDarkly, enjoy your chocolate 🍫. I imagine it's a tough day though?
Curry tonight. I had forgotten to buy coconut milk so rushed to the shop just now.
May watch a film tonight. Has anyone seen God's Own Country?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/10/2020 18:17

@MissConductUS
That is indeed great - this was my terrasse - now it is empty apart from a few pepper plants.

I am on my last day of migraine, it changed sides so over soon.

@MissConductUS that is so gorgeous, hard to believe you're a New Yorker!

I just went to redirect mail and have a walk around the local park, got back to find housemate had locked himself out. Apparently he thought I was in and had been throwing things at my window.

MissConductUS · 09/10/2020 18:51

@Frownette I'm in the suburbs north of NYC in an area called the Hudson Highlands.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hudson_Highlands

I worked in the city for many years but now work up here. As the term is used here, New Yorker is usually someone from the city but can be used for others who live elsewhere in New York State. To me, being a New Yorker is mostly a state of mind. Smile

During my last dental cleaning they took x-rays and the dentist thought that one of my old root canals looked a little dodgy, so I'm off in a moment to see the root canal specialist to see what she thinks.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/10/2020 19:00

Miss
You've reminded me - I need to make an appointment with the root canal team, too. Another point for my to do list. I still can't decide if I should have my foot OP now or next winter.
DH say now bc. I can't go anywhere anyway.

@Squirrel26

I think I want some houseplants. I think that would make me happy. Does anyone have them? What do you have?
I have an enormous weeping fig tree that DH has spent the last 20+ years muttering darkly about. It is at least 9 feet tall. (We are lucky to live in a house with high ceilings.) If I ever get amnesia he’ll take it to the tip or advertise it on Gumtree for free so he’s shot of it forever and deny we ever had it. Other than that: young upstart weeping fig, spider plants, mother in law’s tongue, various aloes, something pretty I don’t know the name of, cacti and many, many orchids. DH hates all of them (“clutter”). Grin
Bouledeneige · 09/10/2020 19:24

I had a bath and washed may hair. I went out briefly to the shops and the combination of wind, drizzle and mask sweat made my hair go all frizzy and crap.

My pal came round and helped me sort out books (I'm moving and down-sizing). She found an app that prices your books that they will buy by scanning barcodes. We went through them all and identified 10% that were worth £60. Then we had a glass of wine.

boatyardblues · 09/10/2020 19:27

Prokupatus: you’re sorted! www.greatbritishfood.de/mcvities-36-jaffa-cakes-440g

I just showed DH your deck photo MissConduct and he was very jealous. He said he would compromise on many things, especially space, to live somewhere with such a beautiful setting.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/10/2020 19:33

boaty
But do they still taste like they did when I was 15? Say they do!

OP posts:
MissConductUS · 09/10/2020 19:42

I'm now waiting in the parking lot at the root canal specialist. They'll call me up when she's ready to see me. It's more comfortable in the car than their waiting room so I'm not bothered.

@boatyardblues tell your DH that he's welcome to visit Wink. Also tell him that the winters here tend to be very cold and snowy. DH often has to take the snow blower out to clear off the deck in the winter.

Spudlet · 09/10/2020 19:47

I sorted out the mountain of laundry and put it all away, and changed all the beds, while DH bathed DS. I feel so efficient!

Frownette · 09/10/2020 19:56

@MissConductUS yikes, hope it goes ok.

I was quite intrigued by a youtube advert something called CleanT where you just insert a thing same shape as dentures but bristles instead and apparently it cleans whole mouth effectively. Dunno if it's a gimmick or not.

SpeedofaSloth · 09/10/2020 20:02

Sofa with blanket and telly on, bliss. DD is under a blanket in the armchair. Menfolk are out.

MissConductUS · 09/10/2020 20:21

Bugger. One of the roots is cracked and I'm going to have to have the tooth extracted. Then an implant.

DH texted to tell me that the shower door installers put in the frame then dropped the door, which shattered. They are rush ordering us a new one.🥵🙀

Champagneforeveryone · 09/10/2020 20:21

DDog1's new bed has been dispatched. He's very excited (he doesn't know why, just that DH keeps telling him it'll be here tomorrow and making him go all giddy) but I am not.

MutteringDarkly · 09/10/2020 20:38

Thanks @Helocariad it's a bit strange and I miss him, but lots of happy memories.

@MissConductUS ouch both physically and financially!
