Just trying to live a meaningful life in an increasingly bizarre world in which nothing makes sense any more.

@larrygrylls

'Also, why can they not publish tests broken down by hospital, care home and community? They must have that information?'

Because it is not their job to give you the granularity that you require-except if it is, in which case you can request it. You are not actually their boss.

And, it is sad when people die. Yes, inevitable and, sometimes, even a mercy. I get that. However, would you prefer that they said 'today, we happily managed to lose 50 elderly people who are a burden on the economy'?! There is generally formal and respectful language around death in virtually every culture in the world.

You can request that your funeral states 'Livin happily died on this day' but you cannot expect those announcing deaths to assume the relatives of the dead will feel the same way.

Thanks for taking what I said about positive cases and extrapolating that I don't care about who dies. I just thought the positive cases broken down could give an idea of community outbreak. For instance if somewhere that previously had 0 cases suddenly has 20 then that would be quite scary but if it was a case of say 15 of those is an outbreak in a hospital for instance then that is a slightly different matter as one would assume that they would have that outbreak under control. I'm probably not explaining it very well but I hope you can see what I mean.

But again nowhere did I mention people dying. So there was no need for the outright rudeness in your post.

I feel for their families as no one should lose anyone in such a way. And I say that as someone who has lost two relatives to covid.

My cherry tom plants are laden... with green fruit and I had to scrape the ice off my car this morning. Chutney then!

I roast butternut squash then cook up with coconut milk, chilli and cumin seeds and blend like a bastard.

@TrustTheGeneGenie

well *@DominaShantotto* i am going for a very exciting trip to town to buy a bookbag which is as of yet not allowed to go to school with DS. Thrilling, eh?

Also, i LOVE stationary. Love a pretty pen, i'm also partial to a highlighter or two. I bought a set of pastel coloured highlighters recently. I'm like a magpie when it comes to stationary. Can't resist.

Me too. I've just started a new course so am very excited to be moseying out to buy fancy pens, highlighters and folders over the weekend.
CruCru · 25/09/2020 17:16

@DominaShantotto

Sooo... anyone know any good soup recipes?

Anyone doing anything interesting this weekend? I've just bought one of those little Hobbycraft three shelf trollies to put my uni stuff in for when it gets too cold to work in the conservatory and I can wheel my textbooks and collection of pretty pens and post its around the house behind me. Don't ask me why I have the pretty pens and post-its... I work as paperless as possible but I wanted them!

I really like this one.

pinchofyum.com/instant-pot-wild-rice-soup

It’s been a while since I last used my instant pot. I might do the chicken curry for the children next week, they really like that.

Over the last couple of days I’ve been seeing on buttons and nametapes, getting my piano tuned (God it sounds so much better) and applying for age 5 - 10 zip cards for my children (they don’t actSully need these to ride the buses but if TfL are going to charge children, the children will need a card to be charged on).

CruCru · 25/09/2020 17:19

I am considering getting a heated clotheshorse (this one). My husband had the heating on today (he was checking for air in the radiators etc) but the laundry room is still really cold and damp.

CruCru · 25/09/2020 17:19

Sorry, sewing on buttons.

JamSarnie · 25/09/2020 17:20

I am too lazy to make soup Grin

DorsetBlueMovie · 25/09/2020 17:22

@CruCru My sister has that one and swears by it. Has three kids (some of whom took a while to be dry at night) and says it's a lifesaver. Clothes in the middle, duvet or sheet over the whole thing.

Get an instant pot! They’re quite fun to use.
CruCru · 25/09/2020 17:35

Currently torturing my daughter by making her practise the piano. She becomes enraged by my irritating habit of breathing / existing so has ordered me to the other side of the room. Which is why I’m burbling away here.

CruCru · 25/09/2020 17:36

Every time I speak she shouts “Stop!” Seriously it’s giving me a complex.

SirSamuelVimes · 25/09/2020 17:41

DH has been back working from home for two days. The heating is on. Wimp.

On the upside, I'm planning on lighting the log burner for the first time this autumn. I love the log burner. If we shut the living room door it can get the room up to nearly 30 degrees. Grin

The areas around us are either going into local lockdown or on watchlists. It's not looking good. Trying to see as much of my mum and dad (and getting the dds to spend as much time with them) as possible before we're back to no household mixing.

The Hairy Bloke says, for slow cookers - A Number of packs of salad tomatoes, a grated carrot, an onion.
Chop tomatoes. Leave to its own devices overnight.
Run through a mouli or a sieve in the morning.
Pasta sauce for the use of...

BogRollBOGOF · 25/09/2020 18:11

Pre-2020: Bogroll is hot, she opens a window. Bogroll is cold, she clicks on the heating.

March 2020 onwards: Bogroll is cold, Mr Bogroll assesses the hotspots, cold spots and air movements through the house and decides what doors should remain closed for efficious heating when the heating is clicked on.
Bogroll is hot. Mr Bogroll assesses the combinations of doors and windows that should be open/ closed for efficious wind tunnels and to avoid letting heat rise, particularly into the south facing bedroom that he has colonised as his HQ. Attention must be drawn to the time of day, sun's potistion and differential between internal añd external temperatures.

Enter DS1 who has a phobia of open windows upstairs and shuts them on principle.

Why does it have to be so complicated???

WouldBeGood · 25/09/2020 18:14

I think everything in a slow cooker tastes the same

countrygirl99 · 25/09/2020 18:27

The slow cooker in our house belongs to DS1 from the days he was in Leeds and didn't finish work until 10pm. These days he uses it to make a rather nice beef stroganoff when it's his turn to cook the Sunday dinner.

TheOrchidKiller · 25/09/2020 18:41

Catching up after 9.5 hours of getting hypothermia in the office (my turn to be at the beck & call of phone queries all day). Windows must be open at all times. Heating cannot be put on until October. Had to wear my coat. It's ridiculous.

Masks must be worn at all times unless sat at a desk 2m from another person. It feels like a weird game.

I make too much mess when I make soup. But the stationery chatter got me excited. I love a decent biro & a new notebook. I also need a waterproof, wipeable bag for carrying PPE supplies around when I make housecalls. The one I've got has an open top, which won't do in the wet weather. Is it sad that I'm a bit excited about choosing one?

(Trying very hard not to scratch an itch right now)

110APiccadilly · 25/09/2020 18:43

Take one butternut squash, chop into quarters and remove seeds but leave skin on. Place in slow cooker with one chopped onion, one stock cube and two cups of water. Cook until soft (about 4hrs on high). Remove skin (don't have to do this but I prefer it), add one tin of coconut milk and nutmeg, salt and pepper to taste. Blend with electric blender. Enjoy.

DorsetBlueMovie · 25/09/2020 18:49

Re: stationery. Four colour bic biros (blue pen, not silver or pink) are the chocolate hobnob of the pen world. I need no other in my life.

WouldBeGood · 25/09/2020 19:05

Pelvic floors... who exercises them? Idly wondering on this today.

Glad I did Pilates before I had DS, I tell you.

One of my fitness classes does them at the end of the session before stretching. You know you're a regular when you've mastered the art of doung them with a natural expression without concentrating too hard.

This is in a public park too Grin
It's great when middle men walk past at that bit and don't know where to look Grin Grin Grin

TabbyStar · 25/09/2020 19:24

Yes, me too, I wondered whether my previous phrasing implied I had a regime!
