Just trying to live a meaningful life in an increasingly bizarre world in which nothing makes sense any more.

And the threat that there could be queues up to 7000 long of lorries at ports was very quietly slipped into the news and the gov were blaming the haulage industry for it! Not their fault of course, and someone else!

Nothing is ever their fault.....

'Also, why can they not publish tests broken down by hospital, care home and community? They must have that information?'

Because it is not their job to give you the granularity that you require-except if it is, in which case you can request it. You are not actually their boss.

And, it is sad when people die. Yes, inevitable and, sometimes, even a mercy. I get that. However, would you prefer that they said 'today, we happily managed to lose 50 elderly people who are a burden on the economy'?! There is generally formal and respectful language around death in virtually every culture in the world.

You can request that your funeral states 'Livin happily died on this day' but you cannot expect those announcing deaths to assume the relatives of the dead will feel the same way.

Sooo... anyone know any good soup recipes?

Anyone doing anything interesting this weekend? I've just bought one of those little Hobbycraft three shelf trollies to put my uni stuff in for when it gets too cold to work in the conservatory and I can wheel my textbooks and collection of pretty pens and post its around the house behind me. Don't ask me why I have the pretty pens and post-its... I work as paperless as possible but I wanted them!

Bollss · 25/09/2020 16:28

well @DominaShantotto i am going for a very exciting trip to town to buy a bookbag which is as of yet not allowed to go to school with DS. Thrilling, eh?

Also, i LOVE stationary. Love a pretty pen, i'm also partial to a highlighter or two. I bought a set of pastel coloured highlighters recently. I'm like a magpie when it comes to stationary. Can't resist.

Spicy soup? How do you feel about lentils?
Littlebelina · 25/09/2020 16:30

BogRollBOGOF · 25/09/2020 16:39

@DominaShantotto roasted tomato soup ...

Heat oven to 220C/200C fan, gas mark 7
Chop 500g cherry tomatoes in half, cut 2 red onions into wedges (leave skins on for now). Put tomatoes, onions and 4 cloves of garlic (skins on) into roasting tray and sprinkle with dried oregano. Drizzle over olive oil, mix up with pinch of salt & pepper. Put in oven for 5 minutes or until tomatoes are beginning to soften. Drizzle 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar over the tomatoes etc and return to oven for 12 or so minutes (you want the tomatoes to start caramelising).

Meanwhile, dissolve 2 veg stock cubes in 400ml boiled water, pour into large saucepan and add 400g tin of chopped tomatoes (finely chopped if available).
When cherry tomatoes are caramelised, take tray out of the oven. Cut off onion roots and remove skins from garlic and onions. Add all the vegetables to the tomato stock along with 2 tsp sugar and cook over a medium heat for 5-ish minutes. Then blitz roughly with hand blender leaving some chunks for texture - serve with warm bread.

I shall be doing bugger all as my results still aren't in. Knowing my luck it'll be too late for the plans to see friends, but just in time for when the In-Laws arrive in the area.

Everyone cross your fingers and toes for me please. I'm 99.9999% sure my chesty cough is directly linked to DH's snotty cold (as per how our colds have affected us for the last 10 years) but obv have had test. Have been staring at my phone all day.

Sort it out Bo-Jo - you will get much better compliance with testing if the access to tests were better and results fast.

I feel out of touch with the opinions on that virus area- they think we shouldn't protect the vulnerable (should be treated the same as everyone else) mentioned how bad it was locking up the students and got told off for that too. Confused I'm just obviously on another planet.

countrygirl99 · 25/09/2020 16:45

That reminds me I collected some items from the office a couple of weeks ago and posted them to my boss. I must put in my expense claim.
I've had to put the heating on in my home office this afternoon, my feet were like ice.

Bollss · 25/09/2020 16:47

@countrygirl99 its absolutely freezing here today. Feels like proper winter. Grim.

However that did mean that i had a hot chocolate at work which was nice.

countrygirl99 · 25/09/2020 16:47

Has anyone ever made sloe whisky? Thinking of giving it a try this year. I had to fight the horses for the sloes do it needs to be something good.

DominaShantotto · 25/09/2020 16:49

Blowing a massive gale here most of the day - we cracked and put the heating on last night which has warmed the conservatory up a bit to make it nicer to work in. Hopefully the flower man on the market still has his winter planters when I get my loan through so I can buy a couple to give me a nice view for the winter.

countrygirl99 · 25/09/2020 16:49

@Pleasedontdothat I might give that soup a try. I have a glut of cherry tomatoes this week

Pleasedontdothat · 25/09/2020 16:53

Must not put heating on ... must not put heating on ... need to keep telling myself that .. it’s only September 😬

DominaShantotto · 25/09/2020 16:56

Oh bollocks if you're cold - put the heating on. The weather doesn't have a calendar!

We've just put it on 30 minutes morning and evening and it's enough to knock the chill off the house right now.

StareyCat · 25/09/2020 16:58

On the positive side, think how many second spikes we've lived through now. There was VE day, Durdle Door, BLM, Bournemouth Beach, Portobello Beach, the time the pubs opened in each country, when Primark opened, the time some people in Scotland went to Costa Drive through, and of course the Great B&Q Massacre of 2020. I'm sure that's not an exhaustive list.

Worldgonecrazy · 25/09/2020 16:59

I will be running and cooling off in the sea this weekend. And eating ice cream.

110APiccadilly · 25/09/2020 17:01

@DominaShantotto I have a good and very easy recipe for butternut squash soup if you have a slow cooker?

StareyCat · 25/09/2020 17:02

Also, i really like tarka dahl, and if you add a bit of veg stock it makes a nice soup too.

Orangeblossom7777 · 25/09/2020 17:03

The best thing for soup is a powder called Swiss vegetable bullion. Just fry whatever veg you want then stir this in with hot water. It makes it really nice. The DC call it the magic soup powder

Share please! I love slow cooker recipes

SpnBaby1967 · 25/09/2020 17:03

I put the heating on for 10 minutes today just to remove the chill from the room. Been sat in Teams meetings all afternoon slowly dying from Death By PowerPoint.

Going to visit my mate this evening, cant wait!
