Just trying to live a meaningful life in an increasingly bizarre world in which nothing makes sense any more.

some people just cant take the hint can they?

we had our first ever homework this week. Ds is 4 Grin he had to draw everyone (people and pets) who lives in his house, including him. It was erm, an interesting piece. He was so excited to hand it in he did it straight away and took it back the next morning. Don't know where he gets his motivation from but it certainly aint me!

I bumped into my DM's 70-something friend in town this morning, she thinks it's all been massively over-hyped and we need to live with it, she says most of her friends are quite frightened (e.g. of catching it from soft furnishings). I think it was a relief to offload to someone who agreed with her! It was almost like she was afraid to speak about it though such is the social pressure.

I find the thing some people do where they turn their heads away, when out and about, a bit annoying.

I mean, outside where the risk is very low, and not exactly close by, but walking past, and turning away as if in distain...it irritates me. Do they think it will fly over and catch them or something

I do it with my mask ishoos. Generally I struggle with face contact when 2/3s of a face is covered. It's not a reflection on the person walking past. Unless I'm somewhere that is clearly going for a quiet walk outdoors and it's clearly not avoiding touching the mask between shops or getting off a bus, and then I conclude that they are not well informed about the highest/ lowest risks of virus transmission...

I did well yesterday. I went to the little shoe shop to get wellies. Park up at a park, nice walk along the river a mile or so into town and just the one shop. Got the wellies and ended up having a nice chat with the owner for a good quarter of an hour about life in 2020, mainly the business side of things. Fortunately for me, his mask while covering his nose and mouth is quite small and doesn't cover his chin or a fair part of his cheeks, so it was a lot easier to get the non-verbal communication from him, and he is quite expressive anyway. Grin
I like that kind of interraction and I have felt starved of those casual moments this year.

I'm happy to look at bare faces though!

Used a public loo today. Lady stood in the doorway waiting for me to come out - I assume for social distancing reasons which I have no issue with - but then why stand in the doorway where I'll have to basically brush past you to get out?!

Orangeblossom7777 · 25/09/2020 13:48

I find it annoying when people walk about with the masks over their mouths with their noses poking out- not sure what that is about.

This is interesting- it might be that they need to vote through future changes - rather than just announcing them...

Rosie I am so sorry for your family’s loss. This situation is terrible for the elderly. Many of them are at genuine risk of Covid but more at risk of dying alone and scared from a thousand other things. Luckily we live with granny and grandad so everyone is getting a million hugs.

Grandad and granny have gone to visit my brother in Leeds. They were going to cancel as Leeds is a ‘hotspot’ but when they saw actual figures broken down they decided it a risk worth taking. My brother lives alone and they haven’t seen him since March ☹️

Worldgonecrazy · 25/09/2020 13:55

It would be great if MPs had some power back. Not that I like any of them but they can smell blood and will be using anything and everything to take Johnson out. I’m guessing Sunak is being lined up to save us all (until he is of no further use of course)

Orangeblossom7777 · 25/09/2020 14:11

It seems that some emergency powers were passed for coronavirus and those are coming up to be renewed, hence the new possible voting...it seems to be across the board not just the Tory backbenchers, Harriet Harman for example. Will be interesting to see if it passes. It might be good to have voting and discussion rather than just sudden changes. I know they were cross with Matt Hancock recently too.

A change yesterday with Sunack's speech about learning to live with it, and we need to not live in fear...

justasking111 · 25/09/2020 14:14

fuckity fuck, Leeds looks to be going on lockdown from tonight. DS says students are packing up and escaping, those that are online lectures only. He lost one flat mate this morning, two have not turned up at all. So just him, girlfriend and two chinese now.

Orangeblossom7777 · 25/09/2020 14:18

Other areas of Wales too, and London is on watch...

WalesAppearsToBeSlightlySaner · 25/09/2020 14:24

We’re in local lockdown from Sunday. As long as schools are open and we can walk it’ll be ok but very weird to not be able to cross invisible county lines!

justasking111 · 25/09/2020 14:36

A comment in the papers someone who lives in Rhondda but has a job in Cardiff said neighbours were wombling around Cardiff for a days jolly and ignoring rules. While that goes on it will spread.

Just had a long chat with DS he is a bit annoyed students are getting the blame for being drunken sots staggering in the streets. He said his halls are not too bad covid wise but the next building is much worse off. Students coming in from abroad there and if only one has covid you are locked down in the flat where others are catching it too. It is unavoidable in high rises. His block has 900 students on 16 floors. He is worried about coming home at xmas, his dad said he will go and collect him whatever happens.

He has no idea about the students who have just upped sticks and gone home, when they will be back, what happens financially with accommodation. I suspect the parents will just be glad to have their freshers home.

Orangeblossom7777 · 25/09/2020 14:41

I noticed in Sweden, they did close the universities and colleges, and agree yes the halls themselves might be more of a problem than going to the pub...it's unfair the blaming of the students themselves.

WouldBeGood · 25/09/2020 14:44

I just don’t understand why this was all thought of/announced after the students went back 🤷🏻‍♀️

The beaches are empty. We needed a new scapegoat quickly!
LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/09/2020 15:06

So our public health person has just announced extra restrictions here....
As "hospital admissions are going up" (by 3 in a week) and subsequently so are deaths (there's been one since 20 August).

Soooo all these restrictions about moving between households being added, when is anyone going to acknowledge that according to phe, almost half of new infections are in care homes. Not in the community.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/09/2020 15:08

Oh and the people in hospital are "people in hospital with a positive test. Including those who came in for other causes but subsequently tested positive" (the head of our hospitals Trust own words)
So, is "in hospital with covid" the new "died with covid"?
If so they forgot to add sadly.
"sadly hospital admissions are going up"

Arseholes.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/09/2020 15:10

And considering our hospital is the designated covid hospital for this area its not surprising there are currently 6 people with covid in it.
6.
(Last week there were none, before that it hovered between 4 and 10)

LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/09/2020 15:10

And they're already asking people to stay away cos they're busy and are short on beds.

justasking111 · 25/09/2020 15:15

Regular as clockwork every weekend our health board on FB says stay away, we are too busy for you.

as someone on another post pointed out - its very handily deflecting from the news this week and there are putting a border around Kent and turning it into a lorry park!
LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/09/2020 15:34

Also, why can they not publish tests broken down by hospital, care home and community? They must have that information?

PickAChew · 25/09/2020 15:46

Shaun Keaveny was pointing out what a dangerous week it was for newsreaders with all the talk of Kent County Council :o

Doing what exactly? If people stay away when they first have a problem they will be a lot busier once that has got to critical level!
