Just trying to live a meaningful life in an increasingly bizarre world in which nothing makes sense any more.
@Willow2017 I have been wondering that myself. I have a pulse oximeter and it was bleeping merrily earlier, but I am OK at the moment. I know I can’t just leave it. It seems unless it’s Covid you can go away.
What is your peak flow reading @Evenstar

Evenstar · 01/10/2020 23:21

@justasking111 about 360 when I came to bed, but I have had some reliever inhaler and quite comfortable at the moment, Sats around 95 and no bleeping! Thanks for asking

justasking111 · 01/10/2020 23:35

my norm. is around that. Told to seek treatment at my asthma review last October if it drops to 260 so keep an eye on it. I do not have an oximeter. When I had a cold last winter it did drop a lot which worried me for a couple of days.

countrygirl99 · 02/10/2020 06:31

The bit about the NHS being open was the only bit I heard live the other day. One sentence had me enraged so I switched to radio 2. DH is supposed to have 6 monthly diabetes reviews. The one at the end of March was cancelled and the next one is now overdue with nothing in sight.

DominaShantotto · 02/10/2020 06:39

Yep. DH is prediabetic and needs to see the practice nurse - no sign of that. He also was due a sleep clinic appointment in early April that we’ve waited months for - finally got the sleep study kit last week - really severe sleep apnea. God knows how long we will have to wait for treatment- with me and the marriage continuing to cope with the kids, and exhausted grouchy husband who falls asleep constantly- and I get no sleep cos of it either.

Dd2 still seems to be struggling to see and her squint is back too- eye clinic due March and we are getting out of the window to be able to treat lazy eye.

Lots of inflammatory headlines this morning, mostly about the MP who travelled to Westminster despite testing positive and having symptoms. In a way, it's nice to see the media finally holding the government to account, but even I (who not-very-secretly sometimes thinks we should be rioting) was slightly dismayed by this morning's headline "the great lockdown rebellion". At first glance, someone might think that's the people rebelling; but it's just the MPs.

What happened about that vote on Wednesday for renewing the powers in the Coronavirus Act? I haven't heard much about the result. I can understand the mainstream media being hushed up on that by Her Majesty's clowns, but even Lockdown Sceptics seems to have nothing to say on it.

And let's remember that every time the clowns say "cases", they mean positive test results and nothing more, some of which might be false. Spin, little spider, spin. In and out and in.

Ibake · 02/10/2020 07:15

Morning @wanderings the vote didn't happen as the speaker Lindsay Hoyle didn't allow it because there were some democratic reasons and if he'd bypassed it he would have been behaving like Bercow used to. Hoyle is more principled than that. What he did do was deliver a scathing speech about why he couldn't and what he thought of the government's current actions.

Brady and Johnson went off to thrash out a compromise whilst the coronavirus debate was going on. In the end the vote was passed but with an acknowledgement that major decisions would be voted on (wherever possible - which am not sure I'd trust). In the end labour didn't vote which essentially is a yes vote. 24 voted no which was a couple of labour, all libdem and some tories.

There are some brilliant speeches to google. Lindsay Hoyle, Charles Walker and Daisy Cooper are my favourites. Charles Walker in particular as he's Tory.

In other news - Trump has tested positive!

larrygrylls · 02/10/2020 07:23

Wanderings et al,

If you don’t like the regulations or enforcement, do something (legal) about it. Write to your MP, form a party, start a media campaign.

If you believe that there is this great silent majority against masks, in favour of zero enforcement and who fears the lockdown more than the Covid-SARS2 virus, then it will be pushing on an open door.

I suspect, however, that there is an indulged minority of the middle class who cannot accept that they can’t party with their mates and their children cannot enjoy the ‘university experience’.

Meanwhile doctors, teachers and anyone who has to face a potentially infected public would reallly quite like to minimise their risk, especially as they become older (not ancient).

The political class are spoiled and hypocritical. And, in other news, a bear was seen to shit in the woods.

Ibake · 02/10/2020 07:24

Sorry. Incorrect. Said vote didn't happen and meant the tabled amendment didn't happen from the 1922. Instead compromise reached and vote to extend coronavirus act was passed.

110APiccadilly · 02/10/2020 07:31

Is it bad that I hope Trump sails through it completely asymptomatic, just to show people who think that if you're overweight or over 70 it's an automatic death sentence? There's so many people today gloating about the idea of him being seriously ill or dying. To be honest, I find that pretty distasteful - I don't like the guy but I wouldn't wish illness or death on anyone.

Ibake · 02/10/2020 07:37

And let's face it, despite his age and BMI we all know statistically he's likely to be absolutely fine!

The one thing that gives me pause is the rumour that he's got some form of dementia and there have been some correlation of co-morbidity with Alzheimer's and Covid. That might mean he struggles more but if course they wouldn't be able to say why!

DominaShantotto · 02/10/2020 07:38

Good morning. Friendly general reminder that there are some who like to drag stuff across threads and may wander the boards for dirt gathering purposes.

I reckon Trumps doing his version of hiding in a fridge to be honest - unfortunately he still has access to twitter

larrygrylls · 02/10/2020 07:41

Ibake,

I suspect Trump has a 5-10 %chance of dying if he is infected, despite the best medical care, so ‘statistically’ likely to be fine.

But in the words of Dirty Harry, would you Want to take that chance-“so, punk, are you feeling lucky”?!

TabbyStar · 02/10/2020 07:45

If you believe that there is this great silent majority against masks, in favour of zero enforcement and who fears the lockdown more than the Covid-SARS2 virus, then it will be pushing on an open door.

This is a straw man. There are very few people who want no restrictions, more who believe that many of the restrictions that there are are disproportionate to the actual risk (e.g. mask-wearing outdoors), or create worse problems than they solve (mental health, snitching on your neighbours).

I suspect, however, that there is an indulged minority of the middle class who cannot accept that they can’t party with their mates and their children cannot enjoy the ‘university experience’.

Many of us and our families are working class, I can work from home but other family members are in shops and hospitality where there seems to have been no transmission of covid (though we are in a market town in a fairly rural area). However, businesses are struggling and people are at risk of losing not just their life's work but also their homes. We are not an "indulged minority", it's pretty tough out here and many business-owners have experienced terrible mental health.

DominaShantotto · 02/10/2020 07:46

The education impact is coming clear in my house - they’ve been doing assessments to see how much of last year they missed - normally steady top ability dd1 is scoring below half and is now convinced she is crap at maths despite me reminding her they missed nearly half the year.

I doubt schools are ever going to be able to repair the damage done

BogRollBOGOF · 02/10/2020 07:49

@110APiccadilly

I thought that too. I've seen scepticism that he's faking it to dodge the campaign trail too. He's exposed to plenty enough people for it to be more than plausible to have picked it up.

I suspect he has a hardier constitution than Boris... Normally that would be inconvenient Grin

I've had one of those dreams that's difficult to rouse out of. I was back in time a few years and shopping so very very normal. Although there was a bit where a young man took a random piss on me. The shop was great and let me have a pinafore for free for the inconvenience, and I was joking that it was like that stupid meme about not wearing a mask being like not wearing pants and no one had a clue what that was about because it wasn't 2020 yet Grin

DominaShantotto · 02/10/2020 07:51

Exactly @TabbyStar - there are certain people who love to push that we’re some kind of Trump loving COVID deniers and we’re not. We simply want to have the right to comment that “errr but what if this or that isn’t the right way to do things” and be allowed to discuss things like the impact on mental health - without being piled on and yelled at for wanting to murder grannies. That’s pretty much what brought us here and these guys have got me through some pretty dark times in all of this.

And cheese will never belong in coffee, and Easter eggs were not an “evil”’pirchase

countrygirl99 · 02/10/2020 07:52

DH wondered if Trump really is positive or if he is setting the stage for an ill health get out? Given his previous stance on covid I doubt it but at the same time nothing would surprise me anymore.

countrygirl99 · 02/10/2020 08:00

@TabbyStar exactly. And some has seen the horrendous impact on the elderly from lack of social contact and loss of mobility. It's looking like my dad will die fairly soon and it will be the restrictions affecting his mobility and regular check ups that will have killed him, not covid. At the same time my mothers dementia has accelerated at pace due to losing her WI meetings and other social interactions.

110APiccadilly · 02/10/2020 08:15

I suspect there's a vast range of political positions on this thread. I happen to hold a couple of political positions which really are minority ones, so I'm sure I disagree with many of you on some other things, but we can argue about that on another thread Smile.

(I also suspect that most of us are politically homeless at the moment, in terms of having a party to support.)

Reedwarbler · 02/10/2020 08:23

I had a little laugh to myself as it was announced that Trump has covid, but will carry on working as normal in isolation. I, too, hope it doesn't knock him sideways and that he shows no signs of illness at all. Also, I wouldn't want him bleating on that the elections were unfair because he was ill (although this ship may have already sailed.)
I had a terrible time yesterday. Due to a road closure it took me nearly an hour to get to my hygienist. I take diuretics. By the time I got there I was desperate for a pee. The public loos were closed and I was not allowed to use the one in the hygienists. I'm afraid I raised my voice, I thought I was about to wet myself. I went to the hotel across the road and they let me use theirs. I have another appointment today at a place with a garden. If they refuse the loo (again, it will take around an hour to get there) I shall simply squat and piss on their bloody lawn, especially as it's out of town, so no alternatives.
Honestly, what have we got to do to be treated humanely? Where do they expect people to relieve themselves? I am so angry about this. I bet Chris Whitty has never been in agony wanting a pee in NHS premises, especially while standing next to an unused, taped off loo. Our wonderful NHS, oh yes indeed.

countrygirl99 · 02/10/2020 08:26

@Reedwarbler I bet he's never known a 93yo who falls frequently have balance clinics by phone either.

Orangeblossom7777 · 02/10/2020 08:32

Can you imagine if he is faking it, then he would get to have a very mild case (and brag about it) and also have a way to try and postpone the election (I understand he already tried to do this by saying postal votes would not be trusted). Hmm

Vintagelovingmum · 02/10/2020 08:38

Exactly this! As soon as I saw the news I wondered if, after the terrible display at the debate, he's decided he has a way of getting out of the next 2 weeks campaigning. Maybe that's just the cynic in me though!

As Whitty said the nhs may be open for other services but not offering the correct or full service just like the poor women going through labour or scans alone and women who are missing out on breast cancer screening with them citing covid as a reason for the reduced service. From those press conferences recently those terrified of using the nhs before are certainly not going to be filled with confidence just by them stating the nhs is open

Really admire Lindsay Hoyle for how he did hold the government to account but without calling the vote that might have ruined the government (although I think they're doing a pretty good job of that themselves at the moment). He's one of the only ones I think it doing a good job at the moment!
