Just trying to live a meaningful life in an increasingly bizarre world in which nothing makes sense any more.

statistics.blf.org.uk/pneumonia

This shows the same kind of pattern across the UK...for general pneumonia I mean..

Facebook the gift that keeps giving Grin

"negative test for covid does not necessarily mean the patient doesn’t have it. Drs look at all results, xrays, ct scans and blood results to make a diagnosis."

All those tests needed to tell if you have covid? It must hide bloody well. CTscan ffs!

Kuenssburg, Peston, Vine etc all starting to press more. Definitely changing their narrative. Kind of pisses me off though because it shows me they're just 'whichever way the wind blows' journalists. Nick Triggle has been quite balanced for ages now.

That is awful.

Something that makes me sad is that reading both the article and people's responses to it, doesn't surprise me anymore.
I often wonder, as a society, we hsve become so divided against each other, will we ever recover from that?

Why am I not surprised? Nothing is too extreme for the mask stazi.

It just proves that the arseholes who previously stayed quiet are now proudly coming out the woodwork.

WouldBeGood · 01/10/2020 09:07

I still genuinely don’t get why people are so obsessed with the greatness of masks 🤷🏻‍♀️

chocolatesweets · 01/10/2020 09:09

Hi everyone , I do feel the shift lately with the BBC. Was a GP talking about how lockdown had affected her patients. Saying it was much worse than the effects of coronavirus.

Kids have started playschool and it's going well. Hubby needs a new job (coronavirus hasn't helped the business - but it isn't all coronavirus' fault), which means I can't be a sahm.

Kind of unrelated to everything here but, childcare. For two. We wont qualify for another few months for the 30 hours.
What a struggle. When we could manage with me as a sahm it was ok but now we'll be totally skint.

I'm worried that we'll have to start paying for health insurance etc soon also.

Something needs to change. The effects of lockdown will leave so many young people in this position.

Less liberated each day.

DominaShantotto · 01/10/2020 09:19

We had a session with some of our first years on the course yesterday (we do a lot of peer supporting across the different year groups). They seem to still be very upbeat about the whole thing - haven't been locked into halls or any of the horrors in the media - but they've literally only just started back so give it time.

I'm fucked off about the library - have to advance book 2 hour slots (even to go in and browse the shelves) and they are demanding you have a sunflower lanyard if you're mask exempt or they'll give you shit. While I wear one - I do feel deeply deeply uncomfortable about forcing those with hidden issues to visibly tag themselves and think it really needs to remain something you opt into if you feel the need. I've got the all-clear to not go onto campus at all for the face-to-face sessions if my mental health isn't up to it - I'm currently trying to see if I can get a car parking permit as I don't think my panic attacks will cope with the train travel. If I can't - I know I can lift share with another person on the course, or catch up on the recorded sessions at home.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/10/2020 09:27

I think my thing with the sunflower lanyards is that they were intended to flag for tweaks to support people with invisible disabilities, and it feels like I'd be misapproprating their original intention when my issue is soley related to the practicalities of wearing masks. Plus the fact that I'm not wearing one is advertisment enough. Meanwhile DS1 will permanently find a neurotypical world difficult to navigate long after masks are consigned to the landfill of history, and it feels like wearing one minimises the difficulties of people with permanent difficulties.

DominaShantotto · 01/10/2020 09:34

Yep I'm not particularly comfortable with having to wear one - I do, but it's because of the mask thing only really - normally I'd just function through the anxiety and odd panic attack and I don't really need extra support, I just need fuckwits to leave me alone.

I don't like the situation as it is and I'm really pissed off the library are coming along this line when all the correspondence I've had from uni is that people are NOT going to be challenged and they'll be taking a very firm line on people demanding justification from unmasked students.

Plus our librarian is really full of his own importance anyway and a bit of a fuckwit and the one question I've ever asked of him, regarding something he's meant to be able to give help with in terms of referencing (how to do page numbers with e-books where there are none... not that I'd pirated most of my reading list) - he had no fucking idea!

Orangeblossom7777 · 01/10/2020 09:40

I think instead of the lanyard there is a card, maybe could just take one of those with a clip to your top / pocket, just for the library perhaps? Or to show...not sure but might be easier perhaps..

Willow2017 · 01/10/2020 09:45

Is the library part of the uni? If so they cannot make up thier own rules if uni has stated you don't have to wear a lanyard. It's none of thier business why you are not wearing a mask you don't need a label to prove it.

(For people who want to wear one it's thier choice but it shouldnt be a blanket issue)

I think I shared this before about people’s behaviours during the COVID situation:

“If you ever wondered how you would have reacted in 1939s Germany, now you know.”

Shame on those supporting this attack.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/10/2020 11:31

Quite.

Once I had children, I realised that I'm no moral hero. I would do what is necessary to protect my family and see them through. I thought most people would be the same.

I'm astonished at how willingly people would grass each other up without any gain of self-preservation.

At the start of this morning's outdoor fitness class, some sanctimonious bint had to stick her oar in about us being a group of more than 6 and our responsibilities to other park users.
It's all above board and sensibly done.
The council has given permission for the class for 10 years and it's only really needed a reduction of numbers and cutting sharing of equipment to adapt to current requirements.

But a group of women with prams are a nice soft target for faux-concern aren't they.

Orangeblossom7777 · 01/10/2020 12:44

I thought fitness classes are exempt. In my gym they are going ahead with more than 6...and that's indoors. they seem to have stuck them in a huge tennis hall place!

Just been helping my elderly dad, he wants to travel to see elderly mum but he is in Scotland and she is Northumberland (don't ask- they split up years ago but still friends.) Anyway Scotrail says he just needs to wear a mask and book a seat and Ok to travel to Berwick. Bit worried he might get stopped or something.

Willow2017 · 01/10/2020 13:03

Orangeblossom7777
There are no travel restrictions in Scotland at the moment so for that he should be fine.
Only problem is the restrictions in Northumberland which has banned mixing of households anywhere. This is apparently legally enforceable!
If your mum has nosey neighbours this could be a problem.

Can he wait till the restrictions are lifted?

Orangeblossom7777 · 01/10/2020 13:06

Ok I thought that he and mum might count as a 'support bubble' perhaps...I will check thanks Flowers- also they stopped her bus into Berwick for a while so need to check that also (sigh)

Orangeblossom7777 · 01/10/2020 13:08

Yes, it says here...

People can only mix indoors with their own households or support bubble

Orangeblossom7777 · 01/10/2020 13:10

also..

"There is no limit on how far you can travel in England for your support bubble but local is best, the government says.
Bubbles can be cross-border with Scotland and Wales."

Exhausted with DH arguing daily this week. He was ranting about folks in cars crossing through n wales. Police should stop and turn back those that were not locally licensed on the paperwork. I pointed out that DVLA were six months behind I could have moved from England to Wales but the paperwork be held up. That is their fault he said. I could be going onward to non lock down areas. That is for the police to decide he said.

I said to him was out tonight, why!!! lockdown rules. Well um, is my hairdresser I said which was legal within the county I have waited six weeks for a trim. He then phoned his barber was in within two hours.

He finally agreed the flooring, haha, now has to wait because not in stock until 18th, not laid until 28th, so I said not to rip up carpet until we knew it was in the hands of our carpet fitter. He wants to rip it up now to paint skirtings. Nope I really will not believe karndean is available until my fitter has it.

We need new doors, he has vacillated about those, so I said, well fine but if they are out of stock when you make up your mind you may have missed the slow boat from china.

The lesson from this is that we are so used to products from all over the world being on tap that when they are not it is a shock.

My advice to all you lovely anti dementors is if you need anything for the house or toys for the kids, get them NOW !!! Argos have said that when it is gone it may be gone until next year.

DominaShantotto · 01/10/2020 13:48

Aaah my uni timetabling gremlins... how we love you.

There's nowt like randomly changing a 9am lecture at the start of next week to a one timetabled in a room on campus to keep us on our toes.

I've done my diary in pretty pens and all that - you can quit that crap NOW!

I think this will be DS life at uni. things changing at short notice dependent on covid positive tests the day before in Leeds at the moment it is grim so I expect the chicken licken from the powers that be to affect his studio work.
