I wear a mask because I have to. Not that I believe that they protect us. We’ve always been told they do not offer full protection.

Yet I watched a video yesterday of a Australian police man strangling a woman because she didn’t have a mask on.

Your not allowed in shops if you don’t have a mask on

Non mask wearers are being accused of causing the rise in infection.

They don’t fucking work!

Don't be stupid. I speak as an infectious diseases expert here. No one ever said that a mask is a sealed container that doesn't let you breathe in or out. 'Vape smoke' is air. You can still breathe wearing a mask. But wearing one means you are a lot less likely to spray everyone in a 10 foot diameter with your spit and mucus if you cough, which is why they work to reduce the risk of infection.

Gancanny · 19/09/2020 20:58

Seeing as they "don't work" I presume you would find it acceptable for medical staff to perform surgery or other procedures on you without wearing masks while doing so?

daytripper28 · 19/09/2020 21:00

Stupid is as stupid does OP

I'm sure the World Health Organisation will be fascinated by your views.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 19/09/2020 21:00

Doctor fails to show a control demonstration with no mask, so that viewers can actually see what the difference is. Doctor fails the most basic rule of science.

Doctor also fails to demonstrate how vape particles serve as an acceptable proxy for virus-carrying aerosols.

Do you stand 10ft away from people in shops. You didn’t watch the video did you..

Did you not see the vape coming through and around the mask 🥴

I watched it. It's rubbish.

Masks work.

Yes. Do you have any idea how science works?

Veterinari · 19/09/2020 21:08

There's no evidence that masks work to reduce COVID infection.

Surgical masks work to prevent droplets being coughed out but within 10-20 minutes are entirely saturated with respiratory secretions. This time period is probably much shorter for many fabric face coverings.

Once saturated with respiratory secretions they are a vector for infection and EVERY time they are touched/adjusted that respiratory secretions is transferred to hands. How often does that happen at your local supermarket?

It's very likely that the use of masks is simply increasing mouth-hand transmission and environmental contamination.

Social distancing and handwashing work, but those key messages seem to be forgotten now everyone has magic masks

BoggledBudgie · 19/09/2020 21:09

You realise that Covid needs to be attached to your spit right? It’s not like smoke, it doesn’t just float about all willy nilly through the air.

A mask stops you spitting on people (as in, droplets when you talk). Those droplets don’t go straight through and around your mask. The “doctor” doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about there and you’re a wee bit hard of thinking if you’re getting your medical advice from YouTube

titchy · 19/09/2020 21:10

Masks don't prevent vape smoke or air escaping. Which is fortunate because you'd suffocate if they did. They do though lessen the amount of saliva you breathe/cough into the air.

Gancanny · 19/09/2020 21:10

No really they don’t.

Actual scientists, rather then "doctors" from YouTube, disagree with you but - hey ho - don't let actual facts get in the way of whatever it is you're trying to say.

So, OP.

JassyRadlett · 19/09/2020 21:11

Lots of peer reviewed studies on mask use and Covid-19, OP. Worth a read.

FizzyGreenWater · 19/09/2020 21:11

Oh be quiet and stop being so STUPID.

babychange12 · 19/09/2020 21:12

Lol so op for it to show it works you're expecting no vape vapours to come out? But that would also mean you can't breathe through them????

BelleSausage · 19/09/2020 21:12

Hmm, I think I’ll stick with the WHO and not your random weirdo on YouTube. But thanks. Seeing as you don’t seem to have a basic grasp of biology, physics or disease control.

babychange12 · 19/09/2020 21:13

Should we all just put a plastic bag on our heads and be done with it? 🤣

JassyRadlett · 19/09/2020 21:14

SD definitely but I’m seeing increasing suggestion from scientists that surface transmission isn’t actually a as huge a factor as originally thought, compared to droplet and possible aerosol transmission.

Keep washing your hands though, it can’t hurt.

Do you have a peer reviewed article for this. I see it spouted on MN regularly but have not read anything that backs it up.
TerracottaTortoise · 19/09/2020 21:18

Thanks for the laugh OP
