I wear a mask because I have to. Not that I believe that they protect us. We’ve always been told they do not offer full protection.

Yet I watched a video yesterday of a Australian police man strangling a woman because she didn’t have a mask on.

Your not allowed in shops if you don’t have a mask on

Non mask wearers are being accused of causing the rise in infection.

They don’t fucking work!

Yes OP you are correct, fabric masks do not provide 100% capture of exhaled virus. Feel free to stay home or keep your distance from other people.

ktp100 · 19/09/2020 23:53

That's some dumb shit right there.

TheEC · 19/09/2020 23:56

Are you dim? You need to be able to breath in masks. They help by containing breath droplets that contain the virus.

Stupid is as stupid does OP

I'm sure the World Health Organisation will be fascinated by your views.

6 onths ago they shared them - I wonder why
RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 20/09/2020 00:06

@Veterinari

There's no evidence that masks work to reduce COVID infection.

Surgical masks work to prevent droplets being coughed out but within 10-20 minutes are entirely saturated with respiratory secretions. This time period is probably much shorter for many fabric face coverings.

Once saturated with respiratory secretions they are a vector for infection and EVERY time they are touched/adjusted that respiratory secretions is transferred to hands. How often does that happen at your local supermarket?

It's very likely that the use of masks is simply increasing mouth-hand transmission and environmental contamination.

Social distancing and handwashing work, but those key messages seem to be forgotten now everyone has magic masks

Agree

Many do agree

Many do not

I agree do agree with you.

You won't persuade most because fear is the biggest driver here. In the end CV will kill who it will kill. All we can do is flatten the curve. I don't think masks work. I don't think most of us should fear CV, most will get a mild or no illness. More people will die from the effects of the lockdown than CV.

But this is a CV world at the moment. Cancer, Heart disease, Suicide none are as important as CV. More people are currently dying from flu and non covid viral pneumonia currently (about 3 x versus covid) but they don't matter because they happen every year, every month.

Covid fear is the biggest killer currently - and you not only won't convince the Covid afraid - you will be accused of 'being hard of thinking' roll eyes, of being selfish, granny killing etc.

I feel sorry for these people. these things happen, have happened before and will happen again. There is no need for any of this hysteria

This is actually an interesting article about a group of 237 other clinicians, infectious-disease physicians, epidemiologists, engineers and aerosol scientists, trying to urge the Health organisations to look at the growing evidence that COVID is also airborne. The WHO accepts it but needs more evidence. If it’s airborne masks offer nothing.

Masks are not worn properly and we know they are not 100% efficient. It’s like using a umbrella full of holes. Only partially keeps you dry.

Restricted measures in Oldham and the massive majority are wearing masks have done nothing to ease case rising. It’s interesting that the rise also reflects seasonal rises of viruses.

But no, I don’t think masks work either. It’s a fallacy.

I particularly loved the "more people will die of lockdown than the virus" based on absolutely no evidence at all. LMAO

I think you should probably put your laughing faces away as it’s making you look incredibly ignorant.

Maybe you should look at the very real and frightening impact COVID has had on people with cancer.

www.cancerhealth.com/article/covid19-leads-drop-cancer-diagnoses

Between March 15 and June 16, an estimated 285,000 breast cancer screenings, 95,000 colon cancer screenings and 40,000 cervical exams were missed. Things have since picked up but are still not back to normal
A follow-up analysis showed that in mid-June, screening rates for the three cancers were still down by about a third

In the UK according to cancer research U.K. 1000 patients are normal diagnosed a day.

Young mum Kelly Russel recently died as her chemotherapy was postponed due to COVID Chemotherapy the only thing keeping her alive. Her life was horribly cut short.

This isn’t funny.

I don’t think that’s true. Can you post your evidence?

I think this video is stupid, but for all those saying masks do work, why are they not working in Spain? The population is generally compliant, we have been wearing masks at all times in both indoor and outdoor spaces for a long time, yet the contagion rate is among the highest in Europe. If masks really do work as well as people say, what's the explanation for this?

Spain has really weird masks rules.

No masks on beaches, no masks inside restaurants where tables are closer than 1.5 m, no masks in bars. However you do need to wear a mask walking outside to the bar.

Social distancing in Spain is pretty much non existent. They have concerts or theatres open to the public with no SD in place.

Mask wearing needs to be used alongside other methods and social distancing is vital.

expatinspain · 20/09/2020 21:11

You do have to wear masks in restaurants. You can only take them off at the table. You have to wear them even to go from your table to the bathroom You’re right about the beach, however you have to wear them while entering, leaving and are supposed to wear them while walking along the beach, although no one really does. Again, with bars, you have to wear them unless you’re at your table drinking. The rules are really strict. I think wearing them on the street is what has caused the problem, because you’re right, social distancing has gone out of the window there. However, the amount of times and places people have to wear them (and they do because the police here don’t mess about), the figures don’t make sense.

tornadoalley · 21/09/2020 20:52

Research is looking at masks reducing the viral amount people spread. No one says they stop all droplets just the large ones cause by coughing. The research is looking at the masks reducing the severity of the disease by reducing the viral load, causing much milder symptoms because the viral load is lighter.

Are you serious? Illness did exist pre-Covid, not only have people died, unable to access treatment, some have had to die alone because of lockdown. Not that funny really, is it?
