What did you want when you were a child?

Inspired by an article I read about a benevolent boss giving every employee their childhood dream. What did you dream of owning/having as a child?

Mine would have been a swimming pool. There were neighbours whose pool I could see from my bedroom window and I was always envious of them having fun in it. We were NEVER invited to play in it. I still want a garden big enough to get one of those solid sided above ground pools with steps, filter, cover, chemicals etc. I bet it would be an absolute expensive pain in the bum. But for one glorious summer I would love it! What was your childhood fantasy item?

You learn not to sweat the small stuff!!
Haven't seen my df since I only had 4!!...

IamMaz · 19/09/2020 10:04

I wanted a horse.
Never got one...

A Mr Frosty. My horrid cousin had one and she never once let me play on hers 😆🤣

One of those water fountains from 'The Natural World' shop. Wonder if anyone know what I am talking about Grin

A pony and piano lessons. Zero chance of either! My dad was solely in charge in our house and couldn't see the point of either. If it had been up to my mum I would at least have had the piano lessons.

My cousin had a beautiful red spotty traditional Spanish dress. I adored it and begged for one. My auntie fancied herself as a dress maker for a short time (she was no good) and decided she'd make me one rather than my mum having to buy one. It was absolutely nothing like the Spanish dress, simply a badly made, terribly proportioned polka dot dress (not even red) in awful, uncomfortable, shiny material. I was made to wear it to parties for quite some time because she's gone to the effort of making it. Still remember the embarrassment and disappointment 🙈

Isn’t it weird how many people of a certain age group (I’m 37) wanted a Mr Frosty but didn’t get one 😭😭 So sad.

I remembered a couple of others. I was never allowed patent shoes as they were ‘common’, never got on Jim’ll Fix It and desperately wanted a shellsuit.

sheepysheep · 19/09/2020 17:20

A pogo stick!

BikeRunSki · 19/09/2020 17:33

@EmbarrassedUser, weren’t allowed parent shoes because they shoe the reflection of your knickers apparently?!!

Frankley · 19/09/2020 17:41

Immediately thought, roller skates

Twigaletta · 19/09/2020 20:07

That reminds me. A piano as well! My friend had one (very musical family). We did not (and were not!). I got a keyboard which I still have. Must get it out of the loft for my DC.

A pony

Twigaletta · 21/09/2020 13:22

@tootiredtothinkofanewname

A barbie house. I bought my DD one the second she was old enough 😁
I inherited my older sister's Sindy house but I wanted the Barbie house because it was way more glamorous and hadn't had the shit played out of it by my sister

I longed for years to have a RC car, but was never allowed one because I was a girl.

Yippeeforme · 21/09/2020 13:43

Oh I wanted Mr Frosty too and one year a cheaper knockoff came out and I got that, it was great! Until my big sister broke it 🤦‍♀️
