What did you want when you were a child?

Inspired by an article I read about a benevolent boss giving every employee their childhood dream. What did you dream of owning/having as a child?

Mine would have been a swimming pool. There were neighbours whose pool I could see from my bedroom window and I was always envious of them having fun in it. We were NEVER invited to play in it. I still want a garden big enough to get one of those solid sided above ground pools with steps, filter, cover, chemicals etc. I bet it would be an absolute expensive pain in the bum. But for one glorious summer I would love it! What was your childhood fantasy item?

Mine was a horse. My mother sternly told me aged 12, if I wanted a horse I'd have to save up and buy one. Well, I saved up for four years and bought a horse I'll never forget the look on her face when I showed her my building society balance 😁

@purrswhileheeats I was told this but I was just turned aged 4 at the time. Well, I saved my weekly pocket money and money from my grandad when we visited, birthday/Xmas money etc religiously for years. By the time I was 10 my parents really couldn't refuse. It was a really costly mistake on their part 😆.

The other thing was a keeper (keyper?) I wanted the snail but my parents never managed to find it. They found a plush handbag version but it just wasn't the same. The Clarks shoes with the magic key did not fit my feet which made me really sad!

Mr frosty. I am mid 30s and still talk about never getting one 😂
A playmobil hospital. They had one at my primary school and I absolutely needed one.
All the sylvanian families. When I was a teenager I made a friend who had a sylvanian family mansion, it was amazing. But I couldn't play with it as we were 'too old'.
A tree to climb in my garden.

Feel slightly better knowing I wasn't the only one without a Mr Frosty

Mothersruin123 · 15/09/2020 21:07

Mr Frosty, and the play doh hairdresser toy. As an adult I imagine the reality of both is quite disappointing!

Spaceman101 · 15/09/2020 21:11

@norbert23 I always wanted that kitchen as well. I can still remember the TV advert

BabloHoney · 15/09/2020 21:14

As a younger child.. a Red from Fraggle Rock doll

As a teen.. to marry either Will Smith or Brett Anderson Grin

None of these things happened. Gutted

mnahmnah · 15/09/2020 21:16

A big old tree with a treehouse. Really wish I could give that to my DC too. Maybe one day!

daisychain1620 · 15/09/2020 21:16

@midnightstar66 I had the snail keyper, I got it for my 7th birthday and can clearly remember opening it, I was so excited! I have only kept a handful of my toys and this is one of them!

TinkersRucksack · 15/09/2020 21:19

I wanted a sink in my bedroom like my friend Rachel had. Not an en suite, just a sink....

MitziK · 15/09/2020 21:20

Playdoh Barbershop. I got the cheapest extruder thing, but she bought a packet of plasticine instead because it was cheaper.

A mini motorbike. Or a Grifter. After 4 years, I got a Raleigh Sunbeam I was six inches too tall for and she refused to take the stabilizers off. My knees were hitting the handlebars from day 1.

A BMX in my size. No, because I'd stand on the pedals. Like I wasn't doing that already with the fucking Sunbeam.

A ZX81 or Sinclair Spectrum. No, because girls don't have computers. I got a toy typewriter (lower case only) instead. I was 11, regularly hacking the school BBC model B and reprogramming it to give me maximum points on the 'games'.

caughtalightsneeze · 15/09/2020 21:22

A Care Bear Cloudmobile. Grin

JoyceByersWasRight · 15/09/2020 21:22

@Missyb1 - I had a Pippa doll, I loved her! Sorry you never got one.

I wanted to go on Jim'll fix it too Blush, thank god that never happened.

I wanted a piano (bitterly disappointed to get a gold sovereign ring instead!)
A pony (not likely, we lived in a council flat on the 14th floor!)
Play doh barber shop - mate had one which I loved playing with even though I was probably way too old!

Bellesavage · 15/09/2020 21:23

A werebear

Itsacakebaby · 15/09/2020 21:25

A Tiny Tears doll
An older brother!!

Spooktastix · 15/09/2020 21:27

I collected all the Looney Tunes Tazos from Walkers Crisps, and my mum wouldn’t buy me the collectors album for them from Woolies. After weeks of swaps in the playground...I’m still smarting from the injustice

midnightstar66 · 15/09/2020 21:28

@daisychain1620 oh I bet that's worth a bit now. Extremely jealous!!

BertieBotts · 15/09/2020 21:28

I wanted a big brother because they always seemed funny. I am sure they would have teased me though :o

I wanted loads of kittens. We did get two kittens when I was ten but I wanted to repeat the kitten phase again and again. Loved our cats at all ages though. We ended up having loads of guinea pigs which I loved too.

I wanted to live in a high rise so I could see really far out of my bedroom window.

Spooktastix · 15/09/2020 21:29

Oh and I also wanted to go on the Wait Til I Get You Home part of Noel’s House Party 😂😂😂 the kids always got really amazing stuff like consoles and bikes

daisychain1620 · 15/09/2020 21:31

Do you think so? I don't think I could get rid of it. I also kept my Popple!(anyone remember those?)

Gingaaarghpussy · 15/09/2020 21:32

Any kind of soft toy that didn't belong to my sister first.
I now have a large collection of ty beanie buddy cats and my ds, who is 15, also loves getting soft toys.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 15/09/2020 21:33

A Mr Frosty!!!

plixy · 15/09/2020 21:34

I wanted a cow. I even planned that I would be able to keep it on the local roundabout as it was big and grassy, and the garden obviously wasn't big enough.
Sadly my parents didn't think this would be a good idea and so I never got one.

weepingwillow22 · 15/09/2020 21:35

I really really wanted a Mr Frosty. My DH tells me they were rubbish though so I have (almost) forgiven my parents for not indulging me.

Bergerdog · 15/09/2020 21:36

Another who wanted a horse. Never got one although I did spend every day after school and weekends slaving at a riding school.
I remember my best friend getting one and I was furious at the injustice of it all.

I eventually did get horses aged 16 by saving up and buying my own. I paid for it with my part time job and had horses for 15 years until children came along and my last one was sold as we couldn’t afford both! One day Sad
