Guess how much DH weighs

So I am going to add DH (with his permission!) to the Zoe app which is helping researchers track what’s going on with Covid in real time (you report whether you feel well/unwell every day).

However, to add him I need to state his weight and he hasn’t weighed himself in about 20 years. We don’t own scales. His trousers waist measurement is usually 32”/34”, and he’s about 5’9”/5’10” tall.

Anyone any idea? I literally don’t even have a ballpark idea of what an adult male of his build /height weighs!

@BarbaraofSeville

Very impressed with the graph and spreadsheet, but I would have done a bar chart not a wibbly line graph. A- Smile

But if Mumsnetters were any good at guessing, the line would be in the middle of the graph.

I really wanted to do a bar chart too but I couldn't for the life of me work out how. The charts wizard in Excel seems to insist on a "clustered column chart", which plots the frequency and weights next to each other in a weird way.

However, it was really annoying me I couldn't, and you've given me the impetus I needed: ta da!

You are most welcome OP, but I do hope your dh is a gardening wizz, to get my money's worth Grin.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 12/09/2020 17:59

Excellent work OP, I love the graph. Just shows how terrible we are at guessing weight.
(You'd expect a normal distribution curve around his actual weight... good luck finding a model to fit our terrible data!)

Sexnotgender · 12/09/2020 18:00

Ah, I was close!

DumDaDumDum · 12/09/2020 18:00

This is the best thread on here for a while..

@Wigeon you have surpassed even my highest expectations and should really hold the title as Queen Original Poster (think MBE or OBE but QOP) for the foreseeable future...

Bravo!

NamedyChangedy · 12/09/2020 18:00

MyDogSmells · 12/09/2020 18:10

Good point something! That one pound I was out by was probably his massive poo Angry

CottonSock · 12/09/2020 19:18

Amazing effort and I'm delighted to be a joint winner

@Miloarmadillo2

This thread is oddly compelling. My DH is the same height and has just lost 12kg after a diabetes diagnosis which was a bit of a wake up call. I'm guessing his 'before' weight which was 85kg/13 stone. Get your DH to measure and keep track of the 'bit of a belly' as it needs to be kept to less than half his height, as well as working out his BMI. DH's BMI at diagnosis was only 27 and he was squeezing into 32-34" trousers not admitting they were a bit tight!
@Miloarmadillo2 - gosh, that must have been a shock. As a result of your post, we measured DH's waist and it's 93cm - the NHS says you should lose weight if you are a man and your waist is 94cm or more Shock:

"Regardless of your height or body mass index (BMI), you should try to lose weight if your waist is:

94cm (37in) or more for men
80cm (31.5in) or more for women"

NHS advice is here for anyone interested

Brilliant thread! The nhs website gave me a wake up call too.

I guess this thread proves that the camera adds half a stone.

trilbydoll · 12/09/2020 20:03

The graph is a brilliant addition (and I'm super smug for getting it right!)

I've recently lost 3kg and everyone is very complimentary but I've still got a BMI of 28, and a 31" waist, I'm not thin by any stretch of the imagination. It goes to show how skewed our perception is at a population level.

CatherinedeBourgh · 12/09/2020 20:26

I’m a bit annoyed that you didn’t acknowledge my extremely accurate 1/4 of a piano estimate.

Wigeon · 12/09/2020 20:44

@CatherinedeBourgh - ah, apologies! Are we talking standard school hall upright? Grand? Spinnet?

topcat2014 · 12/09/2020 20:47

I need to loose a stone to get down to that weight

Lobsterquadrille2 · 12/09/2020 20:55

Chickenwing · 12/09/2020 22:33

I guess 12 stone
