Crack on, as you were, need a lie down and a bit of cosseting after the non stop thrill ride of the last thread. Just take it slow, ok?

Hang in there @Spudlet. Been there, still doing that. DS (Y7) got given a toilet pass card thing without question yesterday as we are tinkering with medication again, IME schools are very understanding.

SpeedofaSloth · 22/09/2020 21:39

Anyway, in other news DD brought home a half full carton of pineapple juice in her lunch bag, so now her lunch bag, school bag and coat are on a quick wash. I am watching Bake off and waiting for the machine to finish, then I will have a cuup of tea and go to bed. I might use my nice ceramic travel mug with the silicone lid as tea tastes best out of that.

SpeedofaSloth · 22/09/2020 21:43

I bet Bovril on the toast would taste a bit like Marmite. Cheese on toast with Marmite on the cheese and served with beans on top is proper comfort food.

It does. Bovril only happened in the first place because I mentioned to somebody that I hadn't been able to find Marmite (or even Bovril) for a few weeks. When I saw her next, she had a present for me - a large jar of Bovril as she'd bought one the week before and the following day, her DP brought home an even bigger jar, so she didn't need that much Bovril.

DP goes really off the rails sometimes and puts spaghetti hoops on toast with crunchy peanut butter. I tried it against my better judgement once and I can see why he likes it, at any rate - with the average sogginess of his barely singed bread and the hoops, it's a desperately needed bit of savoury, salty texture on his plate.

Of course, my solution would be to make toast rather than vaguely warm bread and never mind the gloopy pasta stuff, but he's been brainwashed by his mother about that.

NameAChange · 22/09/2020 21:56

I must say I have not seen Bovril in the supermarket for ages. I grew up on a rotation of Marmite, Bovril or crunchy Sun Pat Peanut Butter on hot buttered toast made from Mothers Pride bread (we lived near the factory and the smell of freshly baked bread driving past was heaven) watching Neighbours after school. Since my teen years I have not once had Bovril and now really have a hankering for it!

NameAChange · 22/09/2020 21:57

Marmite and eggs is very good.

SpeedofaSloth · 22/09/2020 21:59

I haven't had a Bovril in a mug for ages. Proper football outdoor drink. Might have one tomorrow.

blossomtree323 · 22/09/2020 22:03

I can get Bovril in the local Co op. £4 a jar though, Shock

I bought a mug today. I have far too many already.

MitziK · 22/09/2020 22:05

I like a mug of hot chicken stock for similar reasons - use a halfway decent stock cube (Kallo are my favourites) and it's really warming and comforting.

My 'it's brassic out here' drink was Camp coffee made with steaming hot UHT milk. And Iced coffee made with the same ingredients in summer. The hot version reminds me of the Guides Camp From Hell '84 where it came down in stair rods for the entire week - half of us came back with Trenchfoot. Can you imagine 10+ year olds being given coffee these days? The parents would go ballistic.

longtompot · 22/09/2020 22:09

One drink I used to love making was a crumbled beef Oxo cube in a mug with a good dash of Worcester sauce and a squidge of tom purée, pour on just boiled water. Delish, esp with a slice of cheap white bread with butter on and dipped in.

SpeedofaSloth · 22/09/2020 22:13

Is Camp nice? Never tried it.

MitziK · 22/09/2020 22:47

I like coffee and chicory - it's sweet and mild with a slight bitterness, rather than my usual bitter and black as my cold, dead heart coffee. sort of a Starbuck's but with more flavour.

I still feel aggrieved that Sainsbury's changed their French Style ground coffee so that it doesn't include chicory. This is the only thing left that has both, is affordable and conveniently makes the best Iced Coffee with the least effort.

God yes! Marmite on buttered toast with eggs on top it the business.

monkeyonthetable · 22/09/2020 23:40

Damn. Now I want Marmite and eggs on toast. I am definitely having that for breakfast.

WouldBeGood · 23/09/2020 02:58

A generous dash of white pepper in a mug of Bovril is the way to go.

Marmite and eggs here tomorrow too now!

HeronLanyon · 23/09/2020 03:22

Woke with insomnia and was hungry. Have just made egg on toast and now back to bed. May get some sleep now.
Oh - the burn in my mouth from last week’s too hot and too greedy noodles is not yet healed.

redlockscelt · 23/09/2020 04:25

I just went up one percentile

Frownette · 23/09/2020 04:33

I just got home. That is less exciting than it sounds.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 23/09/2020 04:37

Miss 3 and I went for a long walk/very slow jog her in the running pram (Just over 10km) after school drop off.

Came home via the garden centre for a coffee for me and a cupcake and babychino for her. (It’s the nearest coffee with outside pick up)
Dd got asked “Aren’t you too big for your mummy your push now? Big girls walk.”

She can handle biking 5km in her running bike (I have to run to keep up) but 10km is a bit much to ask.

Spudlet · 23/09/2020 07:32

I’ve never much liked Bovril, but I used to get it for ddog. After he’d been working on a cold day, I used to dissolve a spoonful in hot water and soak his food in it, so he had something warm and extra delicious to eat. I might get some again for ‘spoiling the old dog’ purposes.

@SpeedofaSloth I emailed the school yesterday and got an ok response? So hopefully they’ll get onto it. At the end of the day they’ll have to deal with any accidents, so it’s in their interests to help, after all...

sueelleker · 23/09/2020 08:33

The only thing I use Camp coffee for is baking-I've got a coffee walnut cake recipe that my Mum used, and I use Camp in that. (Funnily enough, she didn't like coffee walnut cake, but the rest of us adored it.)

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 23/09/2020 12:02

The birdfeed (food?) we normally buy has had a terrific price hike.

QuestionableMouse · 23/09/2020 12:26

I finally got round to ordering some washable pads. Hope they suit me because I hate the plastic ones.

They are lovely @QuestionableMouse I live mine!

Only thing is if they are light in colour, they need soaking before they're washed in the machine, otherwise it stains.

QuestionableMouse · 23/09/2020 13:06

It's a random assortment of patterns apparently. I'm quite excited to try them and even if I just use them in the house I'll be happy. I'm tied to a desk a lot right now and the disposable ones are making me a bit sore.
