Asking for a handhold - DH in ICU

DH was taken into hospital last night with breathing difficulties. It was pretty minor, the paramedics weren't even going to take him in but we insisted. He's now in an induced coma on a ventilator. He's had 2 negative Covid tests so they don't think it's that but they don't know what it is.

I'm falling apart. He's my whole life. We have a 2 year old who is a complete Daddy's girl. I need him so much. I can't even be with him now because of COVID.

Here's hoping the obvious relief brings you some sleep and a little bit of an appetite to sustain you

So pleased to hear your good news op. Just wanted you to know that I was praying last night and will carry on doing so. Terrific news that he’s made such massive progress so quickly. Don’t forget to take care of yourself in the midst of all this. It’s so important but so easy to forget!

OP, also, please remember that you have had a huge, huge shock and trauma and might take a wee while to settle, feel a bit wobbly, etc. Take good care of yourself, have you got plenty support round you?

altiara · 05/09/2020 20:14

Fantastic news. So pleased for you and MrPeach.
Make sure you look after yourself as well (if that doesn’t sound too patronising). 🍑🍑

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 05/09/2020 20:20

what a relief Brew
take care of yourselves

peachgreen · 05/09/2020 20:32

@ArabellaScott you are very right and I've crashed pretty hard tonight, very teary and anxious despite a day of such good news. I keep expecting my phone to ring with bad news even though the ICU nurse said it was incredibly unlikely. I rang for an update a little while ago and they'd removed his feeding tube and he'd had tea and toast. So more good progress. But I still can't stop crying and shaking!

So many of you have shared your experiences of living with heart failure and I'm so grateful. I would really love to hear your recovery stories if you are comfortable sharing them. Seeing DH so exhausted and weak today was very very hard (though of course I was massively grateful!) and it would be so helpful to hear stories of recovering from that.

One thing making me anxious is that I don't know what stage of heart failure he is in. The definitions are confusing - he didn't really have any restrictions on his activities prior to the acute attack but now that he's had that attack does that mean he's on stage 3 or 4? I'm stressed not having ANY idea of his potential life expectancy. And I know nobody can answer those questions really apart from his doctors but I'm just brain dumping, sorry.

Tea and toast is fantastic!! It's inevitable that you'll have had a comedown after running on adrenaline for the past couple of days. Try to get some rest tonight (easier said than done, I know) and hopefully you'll be able to speak to a doctor tomorrow. Maybe make a list of questions to help you get the answers you need - I know my brain turns to mush when I try to ask medical questions so I always write them down beforehand now!
