HELP!! What have we done??? Pic attached

DH and I live in military housing and had the bright idea that painting our hallway would be a great idea!

There was some good logic behind it. We moved in when it was newly built in 2017 and the walls just had a matt white base coat on them. With two young kids, the walls have become, let’s just say, less white!

We bought some matt but wipeable sage green paint but it looks awful now it’s done. This pic doesn’t show the severity but it’s much darker than we hoped/expected. We have some things to put on the walls which might help but I’m really upset about it. I think it doesn’t help that every other wall in the house is plain white 😩

DH would definitely throttle me if I say I want to change the colour so that’s not an option.

Any ideas on how I can improve this?

Sorry not RTFT so might have been suggested... colour is beautiful but I’d personally paint the front door only wall back to white. I think that would make the world of difference.

oakleaffy · 04/09/2020 10:24

@QuietThyme
The carpet is the rogue.
Not the paint.

A runner would definitely help...but 'Runners' have 'Creep'....
{speaking of experience here}..no matter what, but especially with Children, you will be straightening the bloody thing constantly. 😂

You're brave, painting in an MQ. Do you still have to put it back to the original colour at march out?

m00rfarm · 04/09/2020 10:31

I really like the colour - will look fabulous with the white frames. Carpet leaves me a little cold though. Change the floor and the walls will look amazing.

Silentplikebath · 04/09/2020 10:37

I like the colour. It’s a nice soft green with a bit of warmth to it and I agree with pp that it will look better once it dries.

TenDays · 04/09/2020 10:53

I love that colour and would 100% have it in my house. My hall is painted in a similar shade.

That colour looks smart with white paintwork and I've found you don't notice it anyway once it's tastefully teamed with complementing accessories such as bikes/scooters/buggies/pushalong toys/discarded trainers etc.

Nandakanda · 04/09/2020 10:58

I think it's fine.

It has a touch of "The Shining" about it - you could just run with it and paint the twin sisters on one wall.

tsmainsqueeze · 04/09/2020 11:03

I like it , i would put groups of picture frames / wall art up in pale washed tones .
With anything ie rugs , cushions etc i would only use pale tones , sage , neutral shades ,greys or pale blush pink .

MarshaBradyo · 04/09/2020 11:07

It’s a good colour. Better than white would be

OhToBeASeahorse · 04/09/2020 11:07

Could you put a curtain over the door? It's always difficult when there arent any cornices or anything

Teateaandmoretea · 04/09/2020 11:07

It really isn't that bad.

As you say you have young children so in 12 months it will be battered anyway.

It's just paint and if you aren't that keen on it when it needs doing again change the colour

Sarahandco · 04/09/2020 11:08

It's the same colour as the Mumsnet OP background!

I actually like the colour and being wipeable is a good idea in the hallway.

Teateaandmoretea · 04/09/2020 11:09

And put some pictures up

Henio · 04/09/2020 11:13

I love the colour! How about a picture wall to cover up a good chunk of the wall? Or adding some lovely pinks to soften it up?

A black and white rug/runner would look great too.

Blueuggboots · 04/09/2020 11:32

I like it too! Plenty of white framed photos....

RatanPostmaster · 04/09/2020 13:10

I like it!

doublehalo · 04/09/2020 13:24

Don't know if anyone's said but a new lampshade would be good.

Cissyandflora · 04/09/2020 14:07

I wouldn’t accessorise to match a wall I didn’t like. Just redecorate. If that seems like a big job It just means you’re not used to painting. So this is a good opportunity to practise decorating. I would not consider keeping it unless it was absolutely perfect.

QuietThyme · 04/09/2020 17:17

Better?

I love it!!

LarkDescending · 04/09/2020 18:48

Nothing wrong with that! You need a runner with some dark red and perhaps gold in it and a more interesting/exotic lampshade. Then more plants and job done.

Fifilafrog · 04/09/2020 19:18

I like the colour? Maybe a rad cover with a mirror over and a shelf to the left with some dangly plants on? Corner floating shelf on the right of the front door with another plant? A fancy light fitting with several bulbs in warm white rather than bight white? And move the piano. Perfect!

Ughmaybenot · 04/09/2020 19:23

I love it 😍
